The Mummy Returns (2001) - Full Reaction

Wow, what an action-packed adventure that was! Rick and Evie are just the best, aren't they? Their chemistry is off the charts!! The mix of humor and action was just right, not too corny but still fun! How do you guys rate this against the first one?

(this is a scheduled post in hopes that the video will be done processing by the time you see this)

The Mummy Returns (2001) - Full Reaction

Comments

"The magic found its way back" "It always does." if the first movie was a box office success.

James Melton

Haven't seen this since watching it in theaters as a teenager. Fun to watch along with Cassie and Carly, but this was pretty much what I remembered...not good. The original is a classic for me, but this one is quite forgettable and didn't really hold my attention. The ambitious use of CGI was actually not too bad, until the Scorpion/The Rock shows up. Yikes.

SeanATX

I was into wrestling and this movie was advertised a lot because it was the rocks first foray into acting. On another note Imohtep was played by Arnold vosloo. He been in many action film generally the bad guy but I can still picture him in the movie Zeus and Roxanne 😂

Nicole

I'm not the type to comment on women's looks, but I had the biggest crush on Rachel Weisz! The fight scene made them look stunning, she is still one my favorites! And mostly because the two actresses wanted to do it themselves and spent 6 months learning the choreography!

Greggory Shaw

Hello, fellow neuro-atypical!

INTRO: I really enjoyed watching this reaction, I'm glad that you and Carly really enjoyed it! You know it's funny, I actually told you myself during your YT edit premiere of the first Mummy movie that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson was in this sequel and that it was this movie that helped put him on the map in Hollywood for movies, how could you forget that lol kidding🤣 All your jump scares were right on the money and I laughed hysterically every time🤣😂🤣 Though I admit, and I apologize in advance for being such a wiseguy, at times I feel like you two over react to certain scenes when they don't even show any gore, especially the opening battle sequence, you don't see any blood and yet Carly looks away, there's a reason this is PG-13 lol! I love old fashion battles like this, really gets my adrenaline going lol! Let alone, the CGI is so cheesy and outdated that it amazes me that you two still get grossed out lol! FACTS: Without repeating to much of what I already told you in the first movie, the only fact I can tell you is that the character of Nefertiti (the reincarnated form of Rachel Weisz' character Evie) was a real person! IRL, Nefertiti was the Queen and Royal Wife of Pharaoh Akhenaten and she was the mother of the real Ankhsenamun, who would later marry Tutankhamun (King Tut) in the 18th Dynasty in Egypt, she would reign as Queen from 1353-1336 BC untill her death in 1330 BC and King Tut would succeed her as the new Pharaoh and ruler of Egypt along side Ankhsenamun! Two of the locations mentioned in this film, the Temple of Karnak and the Great Temple of Abu-Simbel, those were real locations and structures! ANSWERS TO YOUR QUESTIONS: One thing I noticed throughout the reaction was how confused you and Carly got when Evie was having visions and how you were seeing double lol! Well, this is my speculation, Rachel Weisz' character of Evie and Patricia Velasquez' character of Meela, they also play the reincarnated forms of their ancient past characters of Nefertiti and Ankhsenamun, both characters share memories of their past lives which is what reincarnation is in some ways! Think on this, maybe you Cassie were once someone else in a past life in another time and when that person passed on, you were reborn into the person that you are now, but possibly somewhere deep in your subconscious, lay the memories of your past life! That's basically what they did with both characters in this movie to give them a deeper connection to the ancient days of Egypt and certain scenes that happened in the first film! So many call backs from the first film that yet still felt fresh in my opinion, like Alex doing dominos on those pillars in the tomb just like his mother with the library book shelves, like mother like son lol🤣 And of course when Alex is reading The Book of the Dead to bring his mom back and he doesn't know what the symbol of a stork means in ancient Egyptian and Johnathan remembers it from when he couldn't figure it out in the first movie, so funny🤣 Oh, and those little mummies you see in the Oasis, those are called Pygmy Mummies, who or what they are is anyone's guess, my personal theory, is that they're the remnants of the Scorpion King's human army that perished in the scorching sands, and possibly the God Anubis cursed them to be guardians/protectors of the Oasis against any intruders! As for the Scorpion King's disfigurement as a half man, half scorpion hybrid, I can only assume it's the result of Anubis' curse! As for the main Medjai character we all love so much in this and the first movie, his name is Ardath Bay, since I noticed you two couldn't figure that out lol! TRIVIA & STORIES: One trivia that I know when shooting this movie is that both Rachel Weisz (Evie) and Patricia Velasquez (Ankhsenamun) went through extensive training when learning all those fighting martial arts with weapons for both of those scenes! I remember a long time ago when I was in 7th grade and I heard this movie was coming out, I was so excited that when it did finally get released in theaters, I went to my local theater in the mall (the same one in KINDERGARDEN COP) and ran up the escalator to get the best seat in the theater lol! Plus I remember back then, Universal Studios Hollywood had an attraction called "The Mummy Returns Chamber of Doom" which is basically like an old school carnival funhouse walkthrough, just bigger, dark, and a bit creepy, but it was fun! You basically walk through an entire life size replica of an Egyptian tomb with many jump scare moments that pop out to scare you, it was really fun! I also remember going in and just before you actually start going into the attraction, I saw on display about 90% of the props you seee that were used in both the first and second Mummy movies with my own eyes! Everything from the costumes, weapon props, jewelery, digging tools, the canopic jars, both the black book of the dead and the golden book of Amun-Ra, the cursed chest and even the black sarcophagus that the mummy Imhotep was placed in the first film, I saw it all, and I'll never forget that! CONCLUSION: All and all, I really enjoyed watching this reaction! Kind of wish you waited until summer time at least to watch this one, you see I never classify The Mummy or The Mummy Returns as horror, to much adventure and action and fun with a pinch or two of comedy and horror thrown in, I see these movies as summer blockbusters, but hey that's just me! Regardless, I still had fun watching this movie, I even recorded myself reacting to your reaction to this movie lol😁 I also say, you should react to the spinoff movie THE SCORPION KING, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson stars as the titular character once again and it too also helped put him on the map in Hollywood! Once again, I'm gonna say it, give the third one, THE MUMMY - TOMB OF THE DRAGON EMPEROR a shot, it is good! It's not a perfect movie, but it's fun, entertaining, Jet Li as the new mummy does a fantastic job! Seeing Brendan Frasier and Jet Li going toe to toe is frickin' awesome, it's a good popcorn flick, and I think you would like it despite the recasting of Evie! I heard several reasons why she didn't return, one is that she didn't find the script that appealing and she was committed to other projects, and I also heard at the time she was pregnant and couldn't return for the roll, depsite that I think the new actress Maria Bello, does a descent job! Michelle Yeoh is a bad-A as usual in her roll in the third Mummy movie, and it's a unique take on the mummy while still feeling a bit fresh, because Egypt isn't the only place in the world that has mummies, China, Incan, Australian aboriginal, Aztec, African, and ancient European countries had their own mummies! Egypt just popularized the image of a mummy in popculture because it's one of the most recognizable images in monster movie history! Anyway, I still say give the third one a shot, loved watching this reaction, sorry for this long text of a comment, love and support, you and Carly are the best, [virtual hug🤗] God bless you, Carly and your family, and as always [snaps fingers & winks] stay classy Cassie🥰😁😉😇🙏👍🌹

Reference to THE MAN WHO WOULD BE KING, in the scene where they talk about Rick being one of the Magi.

Ben Livingstone

Corridor Crew does an interesting fix-up of the CGI in a video on YouTube.

Ben Livingstone

Thank you, ladies, for bringing so much joy and laughs into our lives.

Clifton Owens

This was a fun movie but kinda glad you two are stopping here. They should’ve never recasted Evie and the third film doesn’t ever feel right without Rachel Weisz.

inpham0us

I liked it too. I just wish they would have came up with a different name. In my opinion completely separate movies.

Brandon

There's definitely some fun stuff in this movie, though they went way overboard with the CGI monsters, not just the terrible-looking Scorpion King at the end. But it's also the movie where I feel head over heels for Rachel Weisz, seriously has she EVER looked more beautiful than she does in this movie? She sold her fight scenes pretty well too! A lot of people really don't like the third movie in this series, but I enjoy it quiet a bit. Yes having to recast Evie was a bummer, but I've always liked Maria Bello plus we got Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh. And I liked that they took the story in a new direction rather than just go back to Egypt AGAIN.

Patrick Egan

I loved this movie. Great fun. It was a great escape. And I loved your reaction Ladies. I loved Cassie with her fist pumping. Not as good as the first. But, still good. And Cassie's reaction to Evie getting killed.

Rick Williams

Please watch his oscar winning movie 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗲 . We haven't had a hard hitting drama in a while.

Dearest Cassie, would you mind inviting me to a private chat. I wanted to ask for a HUGE favor.

Lamar Smith

I liked the Tom Cruise Mummy, but it's nothing like the Brendan Fraser franchise and is more of a guilty pleasure

Odd Thomas

Not as good as the first but still fun. Sadly Weisz jumped ship after this and the 3rd film just isn't the same without her.

Odd Thomas

One of my favorites in the Franchise. And as you said Cassie, no need to watch the third Mummy movie but may I recommend watching The Scorpion King next ?

Jon-Henri Roman

Uh Oh... No download option on YouTube? Hope that's not a sign of things to come. Darn YouTube.

Moe howard

I’m so glad that you guys didn’t wait until next Halloween to watch this! Personally, I love this one just as much as the first. It’s so fun and entertaining and I love the characters. I was waiting for the reaction to Evie‘s death scene. It was so adorable how you couldn’t accept that she was dead lol. I’m also glad it had such a happy ending. Sadly, Steven Sommers, the writer Director of this and the first one, had almost nothing to do with the third movie which is why it sucks. That and they recast Evie. I actually think you might enjoy the movie that Summers made before the Mummy called “deep rising”. That one is a lot of fun. You might even like the movie he did after the mummy returns called “Van Helsing”. The latter isn’t as good as the Mummy movies but I still think it’s fun. Plus, it’s got Hugh Jackman in the lead role.

Cody Nelson

I love Rick and Evie. Brenden and Rachel have such great chemistry, so I never bothered to watch the next one when Evie was recast. They shouldn’t make a sequel when one of the two main characters is recast. I really like Ardeth, the madjai guy. He is just so cool and I’m a sucker for guys who can pull off that long hair look. After rewatching this, he reminds me of Ram from RRR who can also pull off the long hair look and I think is one of the most beautiful man I’ve ever seen. I believe this may have been Dwayne Johnson’s first movie when he transitioned from a wrestler.

Tara

I am really glad you guys decided to watch the sequel sooner rather than later. Thanks! Plus, we have a whole host of movies planned for you guys next Halloween (maniacal laugh!!!).

Barry Justice

Dearest Cassie, McKenzie and I just sent you and yours a Xmas present to your PO Box. Could I trouble you to let me know it’s arrived?

Lamar Smith

Almost too much action in this one as I am kind of weary by the end every time I watch this. The over reliance on the CGI doesn't help much. But an awesome reaction as the sisters were so into it. The incredulous reaction by Cassie to Evy's "death" and resurrection and Carly's callback to the first movie "Who's on the wrong side of the river, now?" comment were both worth the price of admission!

Mike LL

Liked the first one better, but this is still a fun, popcorn munching action flick.

Raj K. Dixit

I really enjoy this one, almost as much as the first. I didn’t watch the third as they recasted Evelyn. And the remake with Tom Cruise was anysmal. The scorpion king is definitely someone you should watch at some point.

Alex Gorell

My only criticism of this is the CGI they used for the scorpion king 🦂🤴 Ugh! So ridiculous! 😖 It's like they ran out of money right at the end, so they just scrimped and scraped together whatever was left.

Zane From Canada

liked the first one a lot more, though this one was fun at times…the Medjai leader is named Ardeth Bay; his name was never actually spoken in the first movie, but is said a few times in this one so perhaps they were trying to make up for the error

JL_83

Those two have incredible chemistry and I wish they would do another film together.

Rose

YT is still processing it, that is why only 360p is available. There are times when it takes more than a day to have the HD version ready and available.

Gábor Árki

I still enjoyed this one (love the original) but after the Rachel Weisz recast for Mummy 3, I totally lost interest. She was irreplaceable and the movie felt so wrong without her.

Rose

I think you might need to fix the quality of this reaction, it's not 1080 HD, putting it nicely lol! I love this entire franchise (3rd one & spinoff) included! Don't get me wrong, the first one is always going to be the best, you just can't go wrong with Jerry Goldsmith's score, which is one of the main reasons why I love the first one the most! This sequel, it isn't perfect, but it's fun, entertaining, never gets boring, you're just glued to your seat the whole time enjoying the fun and adventure! Sure the CGI is a little dated and yes the one particular scene of CGI is pretty bad, but luckily it doesn't derail you from enjoying the entire movie! I don't care what people say about the 3rd one, I say give it a watch! True it isn't as good as the first one or even this one, but it's fun in my opinion! Jet Li as the new mummy in the third one, he did an excellent job, and seeing him and Brendan Frasier duking it out, is frickin' AWESOME!!!!!! Plus I like the creativity they did for the final battle in the third film! TOMB OF THE DRAGON EMPEROR isn't perfect, but I think it's fun and I think you might like it! Too bad my tshirts didn't get to you in time for the both of you when watching this, oh well lol! Oh and, the spinoff movie THE SCORPION KING, it's a decent and a fun sword and sandal action/adventure flick and is worth watching/reacting too! I mean hey, it was both this movie and the spinoff that put Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson on the map in Hollywood, gotta show the respect lol! I'll watch this another time, I'm so tired and stressed that I feel like I'm gonna pass out! Glad to hear you and Carly enjoyed this sequel, told ya it wasn't that bad lol! I'll leave a commentary another time! Love and support always🥰😁😉🙏👍🌹

Wesley White

I suppose many have seen these before, especially the first one. But if not, Corridor Crew did a couple of videos about it: 1. Fixing it with deepfake https://youtu.be/KH1V6CHO1Jk 2. Talking about it again with VFX Supervisor John Berton Jr. why it turned out the way it did (TLDR they did not have access to Johnson to get reference needed) https://youtu.be/j8JgN_srwCc?t=578

Gábor Árki

This is probably my most anticipated reaction from you guys This was my favorite film as a kid for years and I've never watched it with anyone besides my immediate family Can't wait to watch! And since you enjoyed the first two, please never watch the 3rd one haha One of the main reasons being Rachel Weisz didn't return as Evie. But Rachel and Brendan still like each other to this day so maybe we'll get a 4th one with both of them

Jyn Jilly

A good not great sequel, lots of action, maybe too much and still fun. That being said the first movie is better.

Mark Vaderr

There’s a spinoff movie called The Scorpion King that was released a year later. It’s a decent movie, not terrible but not great either. It’s still worth a watch.

Tim Raths

this one was pretty good. A bit smarmy, but smarmy maybe. Warning, the next one kinda sorta stinks. Rachel Weisz is gone and her replacement and Brendon Frazier don't have the same chemistry.

Roger Hagerty

I really enjoy this movie but it’s mostly known for having some of the worst CGI ever put on film. What were they thinking? I still prefer the first film.

Tim Raths

Definitely prefer the first over this, but it's still great. The third time isn't the charm though IMO: I wouldn't bother with the next one.
