Classic Christmas Movie Poll

Here is a poll for a Classic Christmas movie to add to my "watched list" The criteria is before 1970, thank you for all your suggestions, I want to see all of these eventually!

Christmas Classics I have Reactions to already: White Christmas, It's A Wonderful Life, OG Miracle on 34th Street!

Another modern Christmas Movie Poll will be coming!

All my Love!

Comments

Meet me in St Louis and White Christmas are annual watches in my family.

Johnny 5 Input...

Cassie, would you be willing to watch the movie in 2nd place, The Shop Around The Corner? This way you can react to another Jimmy Stewart movie this year since you did Its a Wonderful Life last year.

Tara

It Happened on 5th Avenue is a fun Christmas movie that you don't hear to much about.

Sandra Jewitt

"That's the nicest thing that anyone's every done for me!"

WastedPo

I can't believe a musical is beating out a Christmas love story. I hope she also pays the Shop Around the Corner.

Eddie Perkins

Wow, this took a dark turn. There's a difference between Cats (no one loves) and cats (many people love). You just crossed the line, buddy ;-)

Richard Maurer

I do! Two Cats 4 cups cream of mushroom soup 2 cup sour cream 1 chopped onion salt, pepper, paprika, jellicle extract, and worcestershire sauce, to taste Cook for at least 5 hours in slow cooker. (You may need to secure the lid at first, or you'll end up with a meatless stew.) Delicious! [Have I been banned yet? :-) ]

Happy Hanukkah

I bet that if Scrooge wins there will be a lot of people saying "Where's Bill Murray? And why are people singing?"

Richard Maurer

Well it is part horror, but not enough to make a Christmas horror poll, let alone a Halloween horror poll.

Richard Maurer

@ HH - you can't fool me, no one likes Cats. No one.

Richard Maurer

Does anyone believe that most people look at dates or read the comments section?

Richard Maurer

Grant (died 1986) outlived Gable (died 1960) for 25+ years. That's a lot of monogrammed gifts sitting around. Makes me a little sad.

ContrabandDonut

It is my favorite version of Scrooge.

Shane Myers myers

The 1984 version is actually closest to the actual book. I read the book back in 1984 for my sophomore English class. We had the test on a Monday. The 1984 movie was on tv on Sunday night. It was a great way to review for the test. Ironically, my teacher had mentioned a week before that there was not a movie made that followed the book. He was correct except for the 1984 movie.

Shane Myers myers

Did you know that A Christmas Carol (1951) world premiered Halloween Night of that year?

Larry Darrell

The one that's in the lead is a musical starring Albert Finney in the title character. The song "Thank you very much" was up for the Best Song Oscar.

Jeffrey Schmidbauer

Are you kidding? I have a life-size poster of James Corden in his Cats getup on my bedroom ceiling! [This comment was approved by Ricky Gervais.]

Happy Hanukkah

That would be my choice as well, but I would be content with any of the films on the list... except the one currently in the lead. Our only hope is that some people change their votes from the trailing entries.

Bill W

I want to do that quote about him getting a JOB, but not in Cassie's comment section.

Richard Maurer

Technically, that would be an Emmy since it was a made-for-tv movie. But yes, the '84 version is excellent. Maybe even tied with the '51 version.

Bill W

Just remember, two can play at that game. I'll recommend Cats for the next Musical poll (I'm pretty sure Cats qualifies as a horror musical).

Richard Maurer

I'm picking out a thermos for YOU....

Bill W

"The new phone book's here! The new phone book's here!"

Richard Maurer

You know, for the next horror film poll, I think I'll recommend the 1986 Little Shop of Horrors. :-)

Happy Hanukkah

Pleased to meet you, Mr. Martin.

Happy Hanukkah

Well, one could say that some people here have a past bias. I wish people with either bias would try to be more open-minded. For every person who claims old movies aren't worth watching you'll find someone who claims all new movies are bad, and both are equally wrong.

Richard Maurer

Krampus!

Richard Maurer

Yeah, but at least it's not a musical ;-)

Richard Maurer

I am not aware of any Meet Me in St. Louis made in 1949. The one with Judy Garland was made in 1944.

DWG15

Yes that Christmas Carol is the best but do yourself a favor and if you want to feel good watch The Bishops Wife. It's a wonderful escape from the hustle and bustle of the season and life.

CG Shunk

"A Christmas Carol" from 1984 is, arguably, the best scrooge movie. George C. Scott gives an academy award performance!

Jorge De La Torriente

I don't have a horse in this race, so if I were like many people here I'd put out a bunch tangentially poll related films to try and change the poll to something I want. But I 'm not the kind of jerk who'd do something like that. I'm a whole different kind of jerk.

Richard Maurer

The horses and carts driven on dirt roads along fantastically large and beautiful homes. I think was the first time i saw that in films. Was made decades ago, But in that gorgeous film stock it felt like it was yesterday. Folks were dressed in their finest all the time! The girls in that film seemed happier and positively giddy with excitement. And some great tunes like the trolley song.

rakesh

Yes, he continued to dance on TV...he's in his 70s during a brief presentation with Gene Kelly for That's Entertainment parts I and II. I do believe Cassie appreciates talent. And Fred is the ultimate talented dancer and I know Cassie and Carly would enjoy the romantic interchange in both Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly movies.

John Liebling

"The Internet is a terrible place. Life is nothing but pain. Clarence will not save us."đŸ€Ł

rakesh

Just by the way, here's a mere 60+ yo Fred Astaire doing a comedic version of Miss Otis Regrets (!) with Barrie Chase: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwZDt_votQc

Happy Hanukkah

I don't think enough people realize that A Christmas Carol does not feature anyone named Carol, and that furthermore, it is based on a story written 180 years ago.

Happy Hanukkah

Given the ... ambivalent reception Napoleon is getting, maybe Rod Steiger (Napoleon in the 1970 Waterloo) will enjoy a resurgence.

Happy Hanukkah

Which seems as good a place as any to mention the following trivia: Cary Grant and Clark Gable used to meet after Christmas to exchange any unwanted monogrammed gifts they had received.

Happy Hanukkah

I love Gremlins

Eddie Perkins

That version of A Christmas Carol is my favorite by far.

Stephen Malloy

Yes and the songs were not memorable at all.

thansen

That one is so underrated. I love it!

Stephanie Birdsong

Oh man, would love to see that reaction! Lady Eve OR Ball of Fire.

Stephanie Birdsong

They would absolutely enjoy The Bishop's Wife (Cary Grant) and Christmas in Connecticut (Barbara Stanwyck). I personally love Lubitsch's "The Shop Around the Corner" (James Stewart) only slightly more than these two. But all are romantic with endearing performances.

Stephanie Birdsong

Yes, that's true. The producers of the musical Oliver! were hoping to ride the wave and make an equally popular musical with Scrooge. It has Obi-Wan (Alec Guinness) playing Jacob Marley!

3dbadboy1

I don’t think enough people realize that Scrooge is a musical.

Stephen Malloy

Powerful classic film unrelated to all that I've shared, which I recommend as a film with great acting would be, "On The Waterfront" Cassie, you'd get to see what the God Father looked like as a young powerful actor. Rod Stiger was also a great actor.

John Liebling

What types of movies does Cassie and Carly love...Romantic, with happy resolutions. And those are the old classic musicals from the 30s, 40s, and 50s. Even the 1968 "Finian's Rainbow" For a 69-year-old Fred could still dance. That was one of the first directing job by a greenish Francis Ford Coppola...Four years later, he'd make a name for himself directing the God Father. There are a lot of musical gems Cassie and Carly have never watched before. The are fun, wholesome entertainment.

John Liebling

Cassie is great at following her heart and instincts regarding the community she created with PIB. I am hopeful that sometime in 2024 we'll all see her, and Carly react to the Bishop's Wife and Meet Me In St Louis. I've pushed and haven't got much traction from the community for a variety of Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly musicals, I hope that happens in 2024.

John Liebling

Do I have this right, White Christmas is pretty much a remake of Holiday Inn? I watched Holiday Inn in the last year. Its fine. I did a weird thing and voted for Judy Garland and that one song at the end of the movie, instead of Cary Grant, which violates my rule if given a choice always choose Cary Grant.

ContrabandDonut

I’m a little confused by the criteria, as it says films before 1970, yet the 1970 Scrooge is on there.. I would say that doesn’t fit the criteria and it’s dominated the poll which probably has something to do with being the only one not in black and white (not certain but very possible). That said everyone is entitled to their opinion so it is what it is. I personally voted for Bishop’s Wife, as a version of A Christmas Carol has already been seen and the story is so well known. Bishop’s Wife is just excellent and Cary Grant’s performance just seems like something they would enjoy a lot.

Kyle Smith

Wow! There sure are a lot of different opinions on here. It's so funny how everyone thinks that their favorite is the "great classic" when most of these are great classics. Me personally, I don't see how anyone can not see the 1951 Christmas Carol as the absolute classic CC story. I'm really shocked that the 1970 version is winning. That being said, there are some really good picks on this list and it is hard to take just one, only because I know she is going to love several of these. But being that this is a Christmas poll, I'm going to have to go with the 1951 and am sad it is losing. There are so many good movies that I could turn her on to that she has never heard of and would absolutely love........lol

James Sweeney

I second, third , fourth and fifth this.

Ian Bailey

I thought the opposite. My guess was that it is in the lead BECAUSE people are confusing it with Scrooged.

Bill W

Steven, I've seen every movie you listed in the movie theater on the big screen except for Gunga Din and The Four Feathers. Must have seen Gone With The Wind in the theater at least four times over the years. I would wish everyone would have that experience.

Mike LL

That would be wonderful.

Mike LL

There is a marvelous "A Christmas Carol" from 1984 (TV movie) starring George C. Scott as Scrooge! You should seek that one out!

Lamar Savage

Come on people. Meet me in St Louis has the song "Have yourself a Merry little Christmas" sung by Judy Garland. It's a wonderful movie about family and the changing seasons. If you haven't seen it you should. If you have. Vote for it!

rakesh

@ Happy Hanukkah Just wish people could be less obnoxious when someone else's fave wins. Too bad "Little Fockers" and "Eight Crazy Nights" are not up ;D

BRT

Thank you veery much...

BRT

Thank you very much...

BRT

Thank you very much...

BRT

Thank you very much...

BRT

Thank you very much...

BRT

Just wish people would be less obnoxiouss when someone else's favorite wins. Too bad "Little Fockers" and "Eight Crazy Nights" are not up ;D

BRT

I'm DYING for them to do that one! But not really for Christmas...

BRT

It's so good....but everyone has their faves...

BRT

Thank you very much...

BRT

Thank you very much...

BRT

Thank you very much...

BRT

I love the Halloween sequence ;D

BRT

Itt is the scariest/creepiest adaptation which is why I like it. I remember as a kid seeing it on television and they cut out all the best parts

BRT

LOL! Everyone has their fave I guess! It's worth it for "Thank You Very Much" and the coffin dance.

BRT

Obviously. I was being sarcastic about many other comments. "If I had a cannon I would fire it..."

Happy Hanukkah

Bah, humbug! :-) :-) (Since it seems most of us are not very bright, I'll clarify this was not directed at you.)

Happy Hanukkah

I'm NOT mistaken! I'm talking the 1970 musical version of A Christmas Carol, called "Scrooge". I was born in 1957 and was 13 in 1970. Scrooged came out in the 90s, I think.

George C Krolak Jr

I'd love to see some Cagney films. Something about him... charm, charisma... whatever you call it. Even when he's the bad guy, you still kinda root for him.

Bill W

And make sure to watch Holiday Inn. This is my way of voting for it as well as Scrooge lol.

3dbadboy1

It is excellent nonetheless. Strangely as a kid when I watched it the first time in theaters it terrified me.

3dbadboy1

Hey everyone, Scrooge (1970) is not Scrooged (1988). Not really sure how that even made it onto the poll.

Bill W

I am sorely disappointed that Scrooge isn't winning in a landslide. It must be that too many ignoramuses are mindlessly dismissing it because they are confusing it with that inferior Bill Murray flick. Fortunately there are sufficient connoisseurs among us to mitigate their foolishness! /s

Happy Hanukkah

[re the Scrooge griping] "Thank you for clearing that up; I am, as you know, exceedingly stupid." [Credit Lord Marbury]

Happy Hanukkah

No, you are clearly mistaken! The movie you went to see back then is obviously Scrooged with Bill Murray! 🙄

Happy Hanukkah

I changed my vote to The Shop Around The Corner when Cassie said she might watch the runner up

Shawn Kildal

I recently saw Meet Me In St. Louis. Enjoyed it. And that house they lived in was incredible.

Shawn Kildal

Cassie said she might watch the runner up on the poll. Still hope for The Shop Around The Corner

Shawn Kildal

You should definitely watch another Christmas Carol movie but the 1984 George C Scott version. It is the best version and he is one of the best actors ever.

sourcreamus

O so I've never seen any of the movies Kekekek!

Joseph M Sica

That's why we place the year of release after the title of each film..

Celeste McAllister

A lot of people seem to be dismissing Scrooge. It wasn’t my pick but it definitely made it to the rotation of films shown on tv for a while. It seems completely plausible to me that people just really like the movie and hold some sort of nostalgia for it? Meanwhile I love Meet Me In St. Louis and The Shop Around The Corner, but for decades they were definitely much harder to see. Let the people watch what they want! And of course, a merry Christmas to all.

Alex Ch

I am shocked, pleasantly?, that Scrooge is winning. I grew up on this movie and it was my dad's favorite. I love it but it's never on anymore and feel like no one ever has heard of it. Of these though, Bishop's Wife man. It's just perfect and I cry. It's the Christmas-y-est of the Christmas-ies.

Jennifer Medicus

I suggested the musical version 'Scrooge' 1970,good musical numbers, lavish sets and costumes, great use of color and solid acting. it's like seasonal London theater on screen, don't fret everyone loves Bill Murray..

Celeste McAllister

Ditto Ditto
Ditto. Cassie would love this movie. I’m sure of it. Oh Well, is right.

Larry Darrell

Unrelated, Cassie has reacted to a wide variety...I know she watched the Birds about a year ago...The Time Machine with Rod Taylor would be an interesting reaction...1960 version is far less gruesome, which means Carly could join in the reacting. And even though I am disappointed in the Bishop's Wife not making the cut...we are all, after all a PopCorn In Bed community. Many times, the film I'd like Cassie to react to wins, and sometimes it does not. I am hopeful some time in 2024 Cassie will be watching more classic films starring James Stewart, Cary Grant, Gary Cooper, and James Cagney.

John Liebling

Do you really think people believe Biil Murray was doing films 53 years ago? đŸ€” Maybe it's winning because it's a musical version of a classic Dickens story.

james flack

I wish it were up there; it's one of my favorite Christmas movies. And it has everything Cassie likes in a movie.

Eddie Perkins

I voted for The Bishop's Wife too, I really want Cassie to see it. But I'll be happy with watching Scrooge for now, I really love this version of A Christmas Carol. Albert Finney makes me cry every time I watch it.

Michael Weiner

It looks like Scrooge will win because too many people are confusing it with Scrooged, which Cassie has already seen. Meanwhile they're denying her wonderful films like The Shop Around the Corner and Meet Me in St. Louis due to their ignorance. The Internet is a terrible place. Life is nothing but pain. Clarence will not save us.

jdj830

Too bad the Bishop's Wife isn't doing so well. I am sure Cassie is already aware of the story behind Scrooge and a Christmas Carol, not so much the Bishop's Wife with Cary Grant. I hope if it doesn't make the top two, Cassie decides to watch it as a standalone good classic movie.

John Liebling

Holiday Affair is so fun! I love the secret shopper aspect

pastel vhs

So it's true then. People think Scrooge (1970) is Scrooged (1988). She has already reacted to Scrooged (1988) too, by the way. If you were unaware... Enjoy. Merry Christmas.

Larry Darrell

Made in 1951, it is 4 years older than me. Alistair Sims is the definitive Scrooge and this movie is the definitive "A Christmas Carol". I watch it at least twice every Christmas. It is my favorite version of "A Christmas Carol", and probably my favorite movie. My second favorite being "It's a Wonderful Life". I love the giddy, happy change in both Scrooge and George Bailey. at the end when they both come to realize what a treasure it is to be alive.

Steve

I was 13 in 1970 and went to see the movie Scrooge with my two sisters. I still watch it every Christmas as one of my traditions.

George C Krolak Jr

Checking the poll, it doesn’t look as if, The Bishp’s Wife, will make it. Oh well maybe next year

Anjolie Lanel

It Happened on Fifth Avenue (1947) has the Christmas Charm of the season; it was requested last year but never gets a look. Oh well

Grinznmore

Wrong movie.

Mike Lemon

Honestly Never seen any of these accept for Scrooged, so I can't vote, but Scrooged was funny as heck! Course all Bill Murray Movies are pretty hilarious! Good luck movies!

Joseph M Sica

Please consider putting Moonstruck on the contemporary poll! Admittedly not the most Christmasy movie, but it is set during December, you can Carly will LOVE it, and it was on two trivia winner lists (although it got dropped from the second in favor of Miracle on 34th Street).

Tyler Foster

Despite some mostly unmemorable songs (save one really great one near the end), I do like the 1970 musical SCROOGE with Albert Finney, but my vote is for the classic SHOP AROUND THE CORNER.

Stick Figure Studios

Jeeze, i gotta start ignoring these comment sections

BRT

There are some gems on here.

Stick Figure Studios

Well, not everyone is cut out to be a cinephile I guess.

Stick Figure Studios

Thank you, Cassie! I have to go with the great comedy duo of Laurel & Hardy in Babes In Toyland. I know it has no chance of winning, but those two are fantastic.

Mark Vaderr

Curious
Is there a large number of people who just vote for the Most Recent Film on a poll when it’s all older films. I was wondering this when The African Queen won its poll. The 40s and 50s was when The Christmas Star shined its brightest on the entertainment world, in my opinion. All the Best Christmas Movies and Christmas Music were created then. I do like Scrooge (1970). It has some Terrific songs that you will be singing for days on end
but, I have to agree with others that it should have been on a more recent Poll. The Number of Classic Christmas Films from the 40s and 50s greatly outnumber the films from the 60s on up. If there is a recency bias, then the older films don’t need any extra competition from the young ones. Scrooge (1970) is 53 years old, but in today’s world
that ain’t old yet. The 80 and 70 year old films still have something to teach these young Whippersnappers. The Bishop’s Wife (1947) is Truly a Special Film. I hope Cassie does see it one day.

Larry Darrell

The Shop Around the Corner and The 1951 Christmas Carol would be my first two on this list. I was hoping Holiday Affair would be on the list; it's a cute comedy romance with a cute young Janet Leigh.

Eddie Perkins

What the heck, meet me in St. Louis is a classic. Judy Garland. So sad, these polls will never allow PiB to watch the truly great classics.

zynjams

Both of them would love THE BISHOP'S WIFE because how could they not love "Christmas rom-com with Cary Grant"? Runner-up: CHRISTMAS IN CONNECTICUT, which along with REMEMBER THE NIGHT (both starring Barbara Stanwyck!) is basically a template for all those Hallmark Christmas rom-coms.

Paul Stelter

I think Cassie would love Babes In Toyland. Sometime a Christmas Move can be one that is constantly show around Christmas Time. As a child Babes in Toyland was always on TV around Christmas time, hence the Christmas memories associated with it.

Gregory L Costello

Tell a lie. Should have said Star Wars as that came out a year before Superman. I mean, yes I have seen The Wizard Of Oz but I totally forgot until you mentioned it. I didn’t like it, sorry!

Luke Godfrey

One Holiday movie that has been saddly overlooked for DECADES is called Holiday Affair and it stars Robert Mitchum and Janet Leigh, Jamie Lee's mom.

Steven M.

My go to Christmas movie is Holiday Inn. My parents got me into it. There is 1 part that is questionable, but on the whole I adore this movie. Too bad she'll probably never watch it.

Orcagirl78

Luke, you're missing out on over 30 years of some of the GREATEST MOVIES EVER MADE. Surely you've seen Gone With The Wind, The Wizard Of Oz, Stagecoach, Gung Din, The Four Feathers. Just those five movies are superior in every way to nearly all the "films" made in the last 25 years. Open your mind, Luke ... use The Force and become one with Cinema History.

Steven M.

Yes, has always been that way. Recent and mainstream always wins the day.

Jason Chirevas

LOL! 😂

Phil Stubblefield

Dang autocorrect!

Catherine LW

The George C. Scott A Christmas Carol, in my opinion, has the edge over the Alistair Simm 1951 version; the color, props & effects make it more engaging, a movie you can become a part of. It is also truer to the book and it manages to have a few "grin inducing" moments of humor scattered among the minutes. It will make you sadder than any previous or succeding version and possibly cause a few suppresed snort-giggles as it fills your heart with The Joy of the Rebirth & Renewal of one man's heart & soul ... l could use a hearty dose of that right now. Perhaps the GCS Carol will be a sneaky surprise on Christmas Eve? (hint-hint😇🎅🙏). May you all have the Very Merriest of Christmases and your hopes & wishes for The New Year come true. Okay, l'm stepping down from my soapbox now ...

Steven M.

PIB Patreon community in a nutshell.

Tim Raths

I voted Shop around the Corner (1940). I hope some people are not voting for Scrooge (1971) because they think it's Scrooged (1988).

Clay F

Ditto

Clay F

This is the musical version, seasonal Broadway on screen..

Celeste McAllister

Nor does Scrooge ;-)

mikethemotormouth

She'll never put Bad Santa or Krampus on a modern poll on her own accord. We're gonna have to pressure her. Lol

William Bryan

Babies in Tolland not exactly Christmas, but it is one of my favorites.

Seymor Butz

Wait for the Modern Christmas Poll, pals, and stop crashing the Classic one! Ha Ha

Mike LL

C&C learned it, but the majority of the patrons have not! lol

Mike LL

Yeppers, and I think the mixup is why Scrooge is winning!!

Mike LL

Ha Ha Ha

Mike LL

“Before 1970”. The latest film should be dated 1969. Scrooge doesn’t belong on this list, technically.

Catherine LW

Thank goodness, Cassie has already seen my Classic Christmas Big Three, namely It's a Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th Street and White Christmas. Imagine one of them losing to 1970 Scrooge? (shudders) It is a shame Cassie even wants to put The Shop Around the Corner (the movie I voted for) on a poll. Cassie has said she wants to see it. Cassie should just watch it, not put in on a poll! And everyone should know that she wants to see it. Vote for it!! As for me, the young Jimmy Stewart movies I most want her to see are Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939) and The Philadelphia Story (1940). So the loss for Shop doesn't upset me. Same for The Bishop's Wife. That movie really doesn't appear on my list of early Cary Grant films I want her to see (Bringing Up Baby, My Favorite Wife, Notorious, Arsenic and Old Lace). So as a classic movie fan, for once, this poll doesn't upset me, lol. Especially since I have never seen Scrooge 1970. LOL. đŸ€Ł

Mike LL

The 1951 movie is considered to be the best version. I like the 1984 version with George C Scott. Better ghosts

Bruce Redfield

Wow
a tough decision. The Shop Around the Corner is the original version of You’ve Got Mail with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. Both are great movies. But my mom was a huge fan of Holiday Inn, and I grew to love it just as much as she did. Babes in Toyland is also known as March of the Wooden Soldiers
another great option.

Dan M

I wonder about this. It could be sheer name recognition, not a vote for the actual movie, lol.

Mike LL

Thanks for adding 1970 Scrooge musical to your poll. It’s a wonderful movie you should watch regardless of the poll results just for yourself if necessary.

Eric James

Good point about people mistaking it for Scrooged. I also think all these strong 40s and 50s movies are splitting the vote amongst classic film lovers and the one 1970 movie is obviously going to be the most popular amongst the crowd that won't watch black and white movies.

Neill Shaughness

The, 1951 A Christmas Carol with Alastair Sims is so much better than the musical version Scrooge with Albert Finney

Doc Larry

I’ve enjoyed every adaptation of A Christmas Carol. In my humble opinion before 1970 adaptations are rank the 1951 with Alastair Sim is it excellent the 1938 adaptation with Reginald Owens and Gene Lockhart, and then I would watch Albert Finney Scrooge from 1970 musical version however, the 1984 made for TV movie with George C Scott as the main character Scrooge is a masterpiece

Doc Larry

The recency bias is strong here.

Neill Shaughness

I'd love to get some Preston Sturges reactions! Also I think Ball of Fire is a Stanwyck movie that Cass would enjoy!

Neill Shaughness

I'm hoping her watching it would lead to other Stanwyck comedies, like The Lady Eve, which in turn would lead to other Preston Sturges movies!

sarCC

The Albert Finney musical of Christmas Carol (Scrooge) is winning early on in this? The Alastair Sim 1951 version is soooo much better....

Cliff Endicott

The 1951 Christmas Carol is superb.

Dryfesands

I was tempted to vote for that but I just slightly prefer The Bishop's Wife.

thansen

I really hope 🙏 it's the 1951 A Christmas Carol The 1970 version with Albert Finney was strange

Scott Souza

Christmas In Connecticut all the way!! There's nothing better than Barbara Stanwyck in screwball rom-com mode.

sarCC

Glad you posted that info.......I would have voted for the musical which I DON'T like!!

Peggy Zehr

oh shoot, you are RIGHT! I didn't notice the date.

Adam Doyle

Yep, the 1951 version starring Alistar SImm is still the best version, in my opinion.

Silver Machine

A Movie that’s not as well known is beyond Christmas. Sometimes called beyond. Tomorrow is a very touching movie. Made in 1940 classified as a romantic comedy fantasy.

Doc Larry

Babes in Toyland should not be your introduction to Laurel and Hardy. Better to start with Sons of the Desert, Way Out West, or Fra Diavolo (The Devil's Brother) - where you can learn how to play kneesie-earsie-nosey, or even shorts like The Music Box or Big Business.

Bert Towle

Was just saying that this poll isn’t for me. No need to get snarky.

Luke Godfrey

I don’t expect it to win, but I voted for The Bishop’s Wife. I do hope Cassie and Carly get to see it at some point. It’s Cary Grant in maybe his most charming and endearing role. Beautiful black & white photography. Humor, romance, and a profoundly deep moral lesson. As a holiday classic, I’d put it right up there with Its a Wonderful Life!

Silver Machine

There are multiple good choices here. Not sure why Scrooge is so high. Do people know this is the musical, and not Scrooged with Bill Murray? I mean, I've seen it multiple times, but I think there are better choices on the list, IMO.

Jon

Meet Me in St Louis could be renamed Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas as well.

Jon

Although I like any version of A Christmas Carol, I had to vote for The Shop Around the Corner.

Franklin Silberzahn

The eternal Popcorn in Bed conundrum

Jason Chirevas

Do you have a newsletter I could sign-up for, or
?

Jason Chirevas

I was thinking something similar. Few know it by the original name.

Jason Chirevas

OH MY GOSH! How can anyone vote for anything but The Bishop’s Wife with Cary Grant!?!

Above Average Dave

5% for Babes in Toyland?? Rename to March of the Wooden Soldiers and it likely wins the poll lol

Dennis L

The best "A Christmas Carol" ever was Alistair Sims.

Ronald Carpenter

I had to vote for the musical version of Scrooge. It was a favorite growing up, and almost no one is even familiar with it.

WastedPo

These movies are too old for me. Oldest movie I’ve ever seen is Superman, and that’s never going to change.

Luke Godfrey

I wonder how many people realise scrooge 1970 is a musical version of the tale, I hope a Christmas Carol 1951 makes a late surge i think it's a much better telling of it.

david smith

My vote goes to "Shop Around the Corner", but it looks like we're going to be watching yet another version of "A Christmas Carol" with "Scrooge" having a commanding lead. This will be the third time around with this classic story. Merry Christmas to our awesome video editor- have fun editing the musical numbers down on this one! And a very Merry Christmas to all you Patrons out there, have a great holiday season!

Dave

Shop Around the Corner! I just think Cassie would love it.

Brian O'Grady

The best adaptation I've seen is the 1984 one with George C Scott. The best movies of those listed here are The Bishop's Wife and a Christmas in Connecticut. Oddly enough, the frontrunner Scrooge is easily the worst.

thansen

Good list. Please consider doing Joyeus Noel. It is a highly underrated war movie, but probably my favorite Christmas movie. It is also based on a true story.

Dissonant Bard

Definitely A Christmas Carol (1951)

Stuart Guthrie Jr.

Hope you watch The Nativity starring Oscar Issac

Caleb Harvey

No that's the 1984 version

Caleb Harvey

Julie, I'll through my vote for "Babes in Toyland" because I haven't seen that since I was a young boy.

Barry Justice

This is the Christmas Carol w/ George C Scott right?

Brent Petty

Same w/ FatMan and Gremlins.

Brent Petty

I had to pick only one, so I voted for (The Bishop`s Wife 1947) because I`ve only seen one reaction to it & that was just recently. It`s a film, IMO, you & Carly & families would love. But IMO, would better suit Friday Dec. 22nd, if you do happen to react to it. (Babes In Toyland 1934) & (A Xmas Carol 1951) sadly I have not seen reacted to either. So many films, so little time, its fair to say.

Cassie Cassie Cassie you can't ignore Bad Santa and Krampus forever...

William Bryan

That's the 1988 Bill Murray movie that Cassie has already seen. This is the 1970 Albert Finney musical

mikethemotormouth

I recommend "The Bishop's Wife" gets a reaction from you even if it doesn't win. So great!

Dave Sees Movies

I believe that's the 1986 version. The one on this poll is from 1934 with Laurel & Hardy.

Jake McNulty

It is unfortunately predictable that the most recent movie gets the most votes, regardless of the generally perceived quality of the respective films. 🙁 Via IMDB (which of course has its flaws): A Christmas Carol (1951): 8.1 The Shop Around the Corner (1940): 8.0 The Bishop's Wife (1947): 7.6 Scrooge (1970): 7.5 Have we forgotten what C&C learned when watching Casablanca: black & white movies can still be excellent!

Phil Stubblefield

Scrooge (1951) as has been said is brilliant, Alistair Sim is superb

William Burnham

Man, Christmas Carol variations are so dominant in polls. I was hoping for Christmas in Connecticut. I think Cassie would dig Barbara Stanwyck's vibe

Neill Shaughness

It's amazing I went as far as I did in life with my level of reading comprehension!

Barry Justice

It appears that I love movies, but not that much.

AdrianF

Seems like scrooge is the only thing that people here have seen

You might want to read the caption again, stating the criteria.

Alistair Sim played the quintessential Scrooge. Vote for the 1951 film! It also has a very young Patrick MacNee of non-Marvel "The Avengers" TV series.

Jeffrey Schmidbauer

Scrooge (1970) is not Scrooged (1988).

Clay F

These old movies are great and have stood the test of time. All of these movies are much better than Scrooge. The Shop Around the Corner and the Bishop's Wife are probably the best and most rewarding.

TXW

I cannot believe that Krampus (2015) didn't make the poll! That movie highlights the importance of maintaining the Christmas Spirit...or else!

Barry Justice

This was a tough one for me! So many great movies. I love Meet me in St. Louis, but I had to go with Babes in Toyland so Cassie could watch some Laurel and Hardy antics. It's a shame neither of these will win this poll.

Julie

I’m having Christmas in Connecticut myself for the first time, but I went for ‘The Bishops Wife’. Great movie, which I prefer to ‘It’s a wonderful Life’

Biggman83

Watched the Bishop's Wife remake "The Preacher's Wife" with Denzel and Whitney Houston and liked it so much that I had to go back and watch this original. It won't win the poll but it's still a great movie. It'll have my vote.

K Dub

Too bad Babes in Toyland isn’t getting much love so far. I’m guessing a lot of people haven’t heard of it. It’s a wonderfully funny Holiday movie with a touch of old time melodrama and stars Laurel and Hardy. Even if it doesn’t do well enough for you to do a watch along on Patreon I can’t recommend strongly enough to watch it with your family. It’s a movie that can be enjoyed by all ages. Also, the 1951 A Christmas Carol is superior to the 1970 Scrooge (which is the same story), in my opinion.

Daniel Goldberg

Excellent choices all of them!❀I'm team Scrooge it's an ideal C&C reaction💕,I know of it I can't wait to watch it,thank you Cassie!♡

Celeste McAllister

The 1951 version of "Scrooge" (A Christmas Carol) is the perfect version! Please vote to have it win the poll!

Jeffrey Schmidbauer

Just saw Shop Around the Corner first time myself just yesterday and while I didn't love it, I've no doubt Cassie will

mikethemotormouth

There is a "D" missing off Scrooged

pinkdino99

Babes in Toyland is a weird fever dream mix of Labyrinth and Wizard of Oz, just with a smaller budget, but you do get young Drew Barrymore and Keanu Reeves.

Adam Doyle

'Scrooge' is simultaneously my favorite adaptation of 'A Christmas Carol', as well as one of the few musicals that I really, really enjoy. It's been a Christmas-time staple for me since I was a kid.

Sam Ferguson

It's got to be The Bishop's wife, she already likes Cary Grant..

Jeff Rogers

Tom Hanks -BIG, Mel Gibson - what women want, & Mad Max the original!

Carl Hunnicutt

Whoa, these are some really old movies. Never watched ANY of em. Lol
