Here is the full length reaction to this movie.

Hey Cassie, The Gong Show originated in California and ran from 1976-1980. It was a talent contest of sorts that had exclusively bizarre, and often bad acts. The host Chuck Barris had his own production company. Before The Gong Show, he had created game shows The Dating Game and The Newlywed Show. This is one of the "infamous' acts that appeared on the show several times. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BBZVQ4zBcU

Human interaction with human sociopaths.

Jeffrey Schmidbauer

I'm glad to hear that you kept the picture. Kids today would have put that on ebay immediately.

Thoko

You're not wrong with that description, but I think I would say that it focuses a lot more on how regular people are affected by sociopaths. Its not so much about regular humans interacting

Thoko

Al Pacino is such a great actor. I once had an 8th grade English class assignment where we had to write a letter to a favorite actor/celebrity asking for an autographed picture. I chose Al Pacino and he actually replied and sent me the picture lol and I still have it! One of the coolest moments I’ve had for sure.

One of my favorite films. It gets down into the blood and guts of human interaction. It's refreshing to see you react to a truly great film instead of forgettable fluff.

Jeffrey Schmidbauer

Great reaction, Cassie. This is such an intense film. Al Pacino gives a fine performance. Enjoyed last night's Extra Butter event, even though I was a bit late. I am looking forward to your December list. Cheers!

Agree 100%. With the possible exception of Charley Varrick, I think it’s Walter Matthau’s best work and Robert Shaw is also superb. Really, really wonderful film.

Just Plain Bob

She’s clearly considered being a bank robber. Look at all the handy advice she was ready to dole out during the reaction. It wasn’t always obvious, but it was there. For example, she CLEARLY thought it was a mistake to release the hostages once they were on board the plane. Presumably, she would have held onto them until she arrived at her destination. Don’t let the sweet facade fool ya, this lady is ready to wreak havoc.

Just Plain Bob

I really want you to see The Taking of Pelham One Two Three (1974) now. It has a similar vibe to Dog Day Afternoon - a gripping heist film that's also an amazing snapshot of mid-70s New York and boasts a terrific sense of humour. The final shot is an all-timer too.

Henry Graham

We love ya Carly and you did great this Halloween. I know everyone is proud of you sticking with it!!!

Barry Justice

Cassie, we started a conversation below, because you seem to emphasize with bank robbers ("Butch Cassidy and The Sundance KId" and now this) ..."Have you ever been or have you ever considered being a Bank Robber?!?!" If you do become one can I suggest your nick-name, it should be..."Classy Cassie and Easily Frightened Carly"!

Barry Justice

After thinking about it for a second, she pulled off being scary during a few of her Halloween openings! If she does become a bank robber I'll volunteer to be her sidekick! But I know she'll chose Carly.

Barry Justice

"Butch Cassidy and The Sundance KId" charmed their way into her heart and now she has a soft spot. I really don't think Cassie has a dark side, but it's like my Mom used to say..."Watch out for the nice ones!"

Barry Justice

I could never get into this film. Pacino is excellent of course. But I just can’t form any connection with any of the characters. I’d rather something like sea of love, Frankie and Johnny, Carlitos way, or devils advocate.

Don

Great backstory!

Jeffrey Schmidbauer

I live in Massachusetts. John Cazale is buried about a 5 minute ride from my house. There is an excellent documentary about him titled I Knew It Was You : Rediscovering John Cazale. (2009)

Mark Ultimatemusings

This is my favorite movie of all time. Hands down. So happy you enjoyed it!

Jennifer Sauer

So was the pizza guy I think.

Ike

This was great, Cassie. Want to have some fun now that you know Al Pacino? Jump on YouTube - search “Al Pacino Impression” - you will get plenty of actors that nail it. I personally think Kevin Spacey and Bill Hader are spot on.

Judith Malina is the actor playing Sonny's mother. I knew her very well; she was the founder and director of The Living Theatre, one of the first experimental theater companies in New York (she coined the term "off-Broadway" to refer to what her company did back in the late 1940s, which caught on and became a commonly used term by the mid-50s.) I was a member of the Living Theatre in the 1990s and composed music for a couple of their productions. Working with her was one of the greatest experiences of my life; she was a true force of nature. She was good friends with Al Pacino and it was his idea to cast her in this film (they also appeared in a Shakespeare documentary together, Looking for Richard.) She was offered many more movie roles than she took because she didn't like being part of the corporate system; aside from this probably her most visible role was the grandmother in the 1991 version of The Addams Family, and she also appeared in the film Awakenings with Robert De Niro and Robin Williams and had a prominent guest role on an episode of The Sopranos (as a nun who was the mother of Paulie Walnuts.) The last time I saw her was at an event in 2009, and we had a nice talk. She died in 2015 at the age of 88.

Such an amazing run, can't help but wonder what else he would have done had he lived. He was also in a committed relationship with Meryl Streep when he died, so wonder what they might have done as well.

2-Can

Anyone else think that Cassie finds it a little too easy to empathize with the bank robbers? Don't worry, Cassie, if (when) you do crack, we'll raise bail money for you.

Just Plain Bob

One of only 5 movies John Cazale had ever done. He died at a young age of cancer. All of his movies were up for the Best Picture Oscar; winning 3. The movies? The Godfather, The Godfather Part II, The Conversation, Dog Day Afternoon and The Deerhunter. Cazale insisted on finishing The Deerhunter even though he was already in the terminal stages of the cancer.

Jeffrey Schmidbauer

Fun fact, the woman in the green dress that opens the vault is the same old woman from Inside Man that refused to get undressed. Spike Lee hired her specifically as well as many other references this film.

Blake Evans

The film is about outsiders. You should review US History of Attica Prison to understand the public support in the beginning. https://www.npr.org/2021/10/27/1049295683/attica-prison-documentary-stanley-nelson

Javier Hernandez

Did you know...the calm FBI guy was actor James Broderick, the father of Matthew Broderick.

Jeffrey Schmidbauer

Wow, *fabulous* reaction, Cassie, to one of the greatest movies ever made. 😍 I love how you couldn't help but identify with Sal and Sonny and root for them in a way. It's such an amazing film, both a dark comedy and a tragic heart-breaker.

Michael T

Actually saw this in the theater when it first came out! (Yeah, I know, I'm old...)

Richard Rolen

ATTICA! ATTICA!

Stick Figure Studios

Oh gosh, love this movie, hope you did as well, although I know you won't love the ending

John Armbruster

Another great Al Pacino film, John Cazale was great also !👍
