The Fifth Element (1997) - Full Reaction

Ok I have to admit this was not my favorite... I'm not exactly sure what it was about it, but it was still fun to see Bruce Willis in this kind of role. He was charming and funny and the most relatable person in this crazy world haha! It reminded me of the Disney original Xenon: Girl of the Galaxy haha. I know the absurdity and over the top-ness was a choice, I just didn't vibe with the humor as much! Don't hate me! <3

The Fifth Element (1997) - Full Reaction

Comments

I didn't think much of this movie, either.

bgb1975 (Brian)

This is the most miserable comment thread perhaps on this page's existence. Jesus. Both sides of this argument have some serious, serious problems. It's just a movie, folks.

Astraeos

Saw it in the cinema back in the day and once or twice on DVD long ago. I did remember it being all over the place tonally but I forgot it was this silly at times and how the music played into it. I definetly liked it more then than I do now, but there are parts of it that hold up remarkably well, like i.e. the costume design.

Andreas Köther

Oh please! Cassie has every right to her opinion on this. I’m actually glad she finally saw it. Cause 25 years after this came out in theaters, I’m still confused as to what I saw back in 1997. To this day, I will never get everyone that loves this movie. But hey, To each their own. Can’t wait for the Unbreakable reaction.

Joe M

Almost all reactors I've seen enjoyed this movie. No reason to believe this would be a miss.

Martin Skouboe

If you were confused by Luc Besson's silly but straight forward storytelling then you're gonna have a hell of a time with Shamallamadingdong's attempts at subverting expectations and 'haha gotcha viewer!' endings that change the subtext of just about every scene previous to it and requires multiple re-watches or spoilers to understand. Cheers!

Gryff

I don't understand the obsession people who enjoy watching these reactions have with this movie. It's essentially a cult classic and very hit or miss that I don't see the majority of reactors actually enjoying it that much

MetallicOpeth

You were wondering about are they serious... sry, not a serious line in the movie... this is for fun time.

Steve H

One word.............."Multi-Pass!!!" LOL

'Pappy' Johnston

You should have been warned just a little bit to expect an action/adventure/comedy. With that going in, I think you could have appreciated the film more from the beginning

Sean Novack

I'm certain of it.

Stick Figure Studios

Some films are just "a ride". No deeper meaning than a roller coaster ride, but they are still kinda' fun. For me, that's The Fifth Element in a nutshell. I like it, but it's exceedingly odd and over the top. The only choice is just to grin and enjoy the ride! And I'm with Odd Thomas above... Bzzzzzz!

Richard Rolen

I reckon Cassie would have enjoyed Unbreakable more.

Dazman

I think the moments where you laugh at the sheer absurdity are when you are vibing with the film. For me it's a classic and every joke I know is coming and yet it ALWAYS makes me laugh. I still quote lines and go Bzzzzzz! to this day.

Odd Thomas

I've never seen such a large number of people that liked UNBREAKABLE.

Steve Colletti

I was thinking the same thing - and the same people put UNBREAKABLE in second (that's a film that hits me a lot like FIFTH ELEMENT does most of the commenters).

Steve Colletti

LoL 🤣

David Freese

Some of us tried to tell you Cassie, but there’s nothing to do about it. You kind of have to watch the winner of the poll.

Michael Lynch

Those four are a good set of movies to watch

David Guin

I have never, EVER understood the fascination with this movie or its appeal, but I am literally the only person I know who doesn't absolutely love it. Been a lonely island for a long time.

Story Archer

Some get mildly disconntent when they can not correctly guess what will happen next or if the two choices they think might happen does not happen.

Danny T

Going by your post Cassie, I was expecting you to hate the movie. You didn’t seem to hate it. Although, you didn’t seem to love it either. But I thought you found it mildly entertaining. IDK. Maybe your expectations were so different form what the movie is, you were kinda let down? Oh well. Can’t win them all. I still like the movie. I wish I had that microwave thing. Where you put in a pellet. And 2 seconds later you have a chicken dinner. That would be cool. I would imagine the makeup applier and the ability to change nail colors instantly would be beneficial to a busy mom like yourself. Oh, and the outfits were very strange because the costume designer on the film was the famous fashion designer Jean Paul Gautier.

Robert da Spruce

I'd be willing to wager Cassie would not like that movie.

Myles Away

the 5th element is very inspired by french scifi comics from the 70s early 80s which was itself inspired by dune which had come out in the 60s. its a much more supernatural in its approach to the future and mixes science and more supernatural unexplainable elements to create these strange and bizarre future myths that could be both poignant, humorous and strange. sometimes you just have to shut off the part of your brain thats analyzing from a modern known perspective to enjoy something that is made to be as strange and unknown as the writer can muster. truly alien and futuristic in a way that can be befuddling if you are not ready to go with the flow. theres a good documentary called "jodorowsky's dune" which is a very interesting perspective on scifi from the 70s 80s period and revolves around the development of the first alien film and a fantastical huge version of dune that was never made but had a legacy that inspired an entire generation of sci fi.

rubberkidney

I watched the reaction and honestly looked like you quite enjoyed it. I think you're just still confused trying to figure this movie out and you wouldn't be the first. Twice during the reaction you say something to the effect of "I don't think this movie is supposed to be taken seriously" - and you're absolutely spot on. It doesn't take itself seriously, with plot holes and just general nonsense galore, and you certainly shouldn't either. I think if you were to watch it again, you would actually enjoy it more since you'd know what you're getting into and could just sit back and enjoy the general spectacular silliness of it all.

Alexis

yea? we get the warning about evil..it shows up..we retrieve the 5th element..we go to floston paradise to collect other elements. show up at temple. defeat the evil. how could it be more concise?

rubberkidney

youtube: "Pib is watching 5th element? better take it off free movies."

rubberkidney

quote of the week "Its like Megamind". -Cassie PIB

Kevin Kuma

It's never been my favorite science fiction movie, either. It's like they dissected Bladerunner and dipped the remains in fluorescent paint.

Ben Livingstone

Cassie, Cassie, Cassie. 😔 Good luck with Unbreakable. Cassie with The Fifth Element, Unbreakable and 12 Monkeys you have some of Bruce Willis' strangest movies. With The Fifth Element being the most enjoyable. You should have went with Red. That was your best bet of the poll.

Rick Williams

I wondered what Cassie's response to the would be... yeah, she said it was bizarre.

Terry Yelmene

You are not alone. This was the European attempt at high style Fantasy Science Fiction. The European film industry wanted to compete with Hollywood. I saw it in the theatre and did not get everything. I then saw it at home a few years later and realized it just does not come together completely. For me it is not concise and does not mesh.

Bill Bowman

The first time I saw this it was a WTF moment, but it grows on you with repeat viewings, now I like it. I was concerned that it was going to be hard to "get" with one viewing and in the setting of a reacter

Keith Jones

Yes, it’s only for top tier patrons.

Tim Raths

I’m a little confused. So are the monthly live streams going to be for only the top tiers of $15? Does that mean the $10 tiers won’t have access to the live streams? I’m just double checking on this.

Joe M

The first time I watched the 5th element, I came away very underwhelmed. I think because of what you say, I thought I was getting a serious Sci-Fi movie. Now, it's one of my all time favorite movies that I still regularly quote from. So, I totally get this movie not clicking the first time through.

Robert Haynes

This movie was so weird. Once was enough for me.

TheCaptain359

The Fifth Element > Director > Luc Besson > The Professional > Must See.

Philip Alan

My previous comment was just based on observation of the comment section. I've never actually seen the film and have no opinion of it. To be honest I really have no interest in watching it because it just doesn't look that appealing to me.

Tim Raths

Not my favorite either, Cassie, you're definitely not alone in that. I did enjoy Chris Tucker in it, though.

sarCC

If you watching Unbreakable you could maybe watch Split for scary not to scary.

Dean Holt

I was the same about Unbreakable I nearly walked out of the cinema, it was just to slow and a bit depressing for me. But I thought McAvoy was incredible in Spilt and really liked that and Glass. It also tuck me a couple of watches to understand 12 Monkeys so it would definitely be interesting to see her reaction to that.

Dean Holt

Despite Cassie not really vibing with the tone of the movie, I think it was still a fine reaction. Parts worked well and for most of it is still entertaining seeing Cassie's confused "what am I watching" facial expressions. I think one of the few parts where the movie really lost her for a bit was the introduction of Ruby Rhod. Fun fact, because I feel one of the parts Cassie enjoyed the most was the opera scene. The Diva Dance was composed by Éric Serra to be impossible to sing. For the movie it was performed by Albanian soprano Inva Mula. They recorded her performance in multiple segments and combined it digitally, partly synthetizing her voice. Since then, a lot took up the challenge to actually sing it from beginning to end. There are a lot of videos on YT, not all are probably entirely genuine though. I think one of the best live performances is Jane Zhang: https://youtu.be/kJl2uPNsJEk Also, a reaction of an opera voice coach to a few of them: https://youtu.be/785qBy7IQaQ

Gábor Árki

Fun movie. Even more so than I remembered. But maybe the kind of movie you want to watch with some company.

Grad

To me the best part was Chris Tucker, this movie was ok. Unbreakable was not for me. I was able to exchange it at Blockbuster when it came to DVD. I did like the sequel though. I voted for 12 monkeys simply because I thought this was the most thought provoking. I had to watch it two or three times to get it. When my brother talked to me about it I got it and I loved it. Movies that make you think are the best like Vanilla Sky (2001) or Memento (2000). Twelve Monkeys is in that category.

Zachary K. (Swiftie)

I personally love this movie but I can understand why folks do not. If I saw it for the first time now I don't know how I'd feel about it. I was really looking forward to Luc Besson's last movie "Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets" and I ended up hating it. However, The Fifth Element, I just can't help but love.

Myles Away

She was not 17. She was born in 1975. So she was probably 20 or 21 when filming. You might be thinking of Scarlett Johansson in Lost in Translation.

Myles Away

xenon reaction....

Cojuancidence

My favorite Cassie quote from this movie: "They are like . . . Robot . . . Armadillo Men." 😄 I did vote for this and immensely enjoyed the reaction even though it didn't really gel with Cassie. I can understand that because the movie is quirky and weird and different and Chris Tucker. I liked the movie when it first came out but years later I tired of it. Then years later up to now I began to appreciate it more and I think it is a gas and a hoot. No one can't say it is not well made. It just shows that ones opinion of a film can evolve over time. A very fun reaction seeing Cassie being perplexed throughout. I did realize with this watch of the movie that it seems very serious most of the first half hour, then goes right into some comedy. Maybe that has something to do with it not going over so well with some people. Cassie was set up for a serious and tense Sci-Fi movie then ran right into a farcical comedy wall.

MikeLL

This comment section is full of 2 types of people. Those who truly don’t like the movie and those who are pissed about it winning the pole and are venting their frustrations. The people who liked/loved and voted for this movie, which won by a pretty sizable amount I believe, don’t feel the need to comment but are definitely in the majority. It’s unfortunate the “top kernel” didn’t get it since she’s liked other, similar quirky movies.

Mike Coughlin (mjc1389)

I agree with this. I’d say 10% of my recommendations fall into category A and the remaining 90% fall into B. I am self aware enough not to delve into C.

Cole Jennett

SQUEEEEE! Cassie! It's my birthday today - I know you had no earthly idea, but I'm just saying - this is basically my favorite film of all time, sorta? So, yeah. Thanks for the unwitting birthday present haha

Rue

I actually think she would have liked most of the movies on the Bruce Willis poll (this being a rare exception).

Stick Figure Studios

I get it’s not everyone’s cup of tea and glad you always give your honest opinion. I’ve always enjoyed watching it ever since I saw it in the cinema and just think it’s a fun film to watch from time to time. I do get why people don’t like it as it’s a bit silly, goofy and cheesy in places and if you go in expecting a serious film or if it’s not your style of comedy you’re probably never going to like it. But I really like the imaginative look and the visuals especially the futuristic New York as it’s kinda like someone switched on the light in the Blade Runner universe. I’ve also always thought the goofy and cheesy bits were all part of the fun and adds to the style of the movie. I also like all the creature designs and that they were all practical effects and not CGI. But I just enjoyed the film for what it is a Sci-fi action film that doesn’t take itself to seriously. And for us Sci-Fi nerds I really wish there was more movies being made like this today as we don’t see many good Sci-Fi movies being made anymore.

Dean Holt

I think when it comes to the movie recommendations for this channel, it falls into 3 categories (although the same movie can fit multiple). A) This movie is a classic/modern classic and even if it's not everyone's favorite, it should still be watched. (Schindler's List, Jaws, Braveheart) B) This is a movie Cassie, and Carly would love, but they likely missed. Maybe not amazing to all, but it would be right up their alley. (For Love of the Game, Hachi, While You Were Sleeping) C) This is a popular movie or member favorite, but maybe not amazing to all, and maybe not something that Cassie or Carly would enjoy. This last category is the Wild Card and while some are surprise hits (Big Lebowski, Cinderella Man), some like 2001 and Doctor Strangelove I know would not be received well. The Fifth Element was definitely one of those I knew she wouldn't like, despite being a favorite of mine, and many. Let's hope she likes Unbreakable!

Adam Doyle

Bill meme: YOU WHAT

Odd Thomas

I love this movie but voted for 12 monkeys when it appeared that this film was going to run away with the votes. I almost didn't watch the reaction based on you saying that you didn't like it but there seem to be parts of it that you enjoyed It was actually was a better reaction than I thought it might be given your description. I always thought of it as die hard in space and it's set design and production design are absolutely iconic. In some ways Ruby rod is the jar jar of this movie. That being said I'm glad you watched it and I still think that korban and leeloo are an iconic sci-fi duo.

Canadianant

"A *bit* shrill?"

Stick Figure Studios

I think the reason you're seeing all the dislike for it now is because when they found out Cassie didn't enjoy it they felt emboldened to share their opinion.. not throwing shade just human nature. I have always liked the movie but then in my adolescence and over the course of my life I have always been drawn to anything with a futuristic leaning.. big fan of Star Trek and Star Wars, etc. Never liked horror at all but I've seen all the alien movies simply because of the outer space angle. Big fan of Dune, the old and new, Even read the books.. Frank Herbert was a freaking genius nutjob lol.

Andrew Rose

oh it's because it's French 😁... It is also a bit shrill...

Mannygogou

Despite several people here saying its bad, i do in fact think this movie is iconic. I think its great. However, that is fine if you didn't like it. Everyone has different opinions, and thats just how it is. Nothing personal.

Armchair Rizzard

You got me. Silent majority I guess.

Stick Figure Studios

Based on the comments here how did this movie win the poll? Not just win but win overwhelmingly.

Tim Raths

Nothing worse than a film having an amazing aesthetic from art direction, music, props, fashion, and architecture but you just can't get into the story. I personally love these aspects of the film with the futuristic New York being my favourite but the story and characters aren't my favourites. As a 2000AD fan (Judge Dredd) I liked the world they created and I'm used to weird and wacky stuff but I just never cared for this film beyond the amazing Production design which to me is the best aspect of the film, Love the cars and actually use a Firth Element vehicles mod for Cities Skylines a city building game. Funny enough this New York would make for an amazing Metropolis (Superman's City) just less Flying Cars but keep the architecture maybe make it more Art Deco with crossing bridges between buildings. The fact the sea level has decreased also reminds me of the comic book renditions of Metropolis which depicts the city on a large island almost like it was on a mountain above the water similar to New York in this film. Firth Element is also VERY European, French production and director, Luc Besson. As a European I could tell right away that it had French film DNA. So it's an acquired taste and I personally enjoy similar stuff but like I said I'm not too big on Firth Element. The director's other movies I much prefer from La Femme Nikita to Leon: The Professional but then you have Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets which to me is visually amazing but suffers from alot of what I disliked about Firth Element. Much prefer films like Batman 89 more so Batman Returns, Star Wars, Demolition Man, Total Recall, Bladerunner, Robocop, Dredd etc. These visually look amazing but also just are great stories and movies I love to re-watch over and over again and never get bored. But it's fun you reacted to it even if you didn't enjoy it as much. I'm someone who loves Batman 89 but still loved you're reaction so it's fun seeing other people's views on movies and shows and this one is example of a film people like or dislike.

Isaac

I knew this one was not going to be your cup of tea. That's okay. It isn't mine either (as I made very clear during the poll). I have never understood the love for this movie. It has spectacular visuals certainly, but I've always found it really shrill and obnoxious and juvenile and unfunny and dumb (it's already all of those things throughout the first two acts, but those qualities get amped up even more when Chris Tucker shows up). Definitely a cult film. It's interesting to me that so many comments now are people expressing their dislike of it because I was wondering where all of this was when it was winning the poll. Oh, well. I'll still watch the reaction (this will be my first time seeing the film again since 1997) and I'm pleased that you will be checking out the runner-up UNBREAKABLE. It is an excellent movie, one of Willis's best, and I think you will enjoy that one much more.

Stick Figure Studios

I have the taste of a snobby film critic, but... i fell for the charm of the 5th element. it's cheesy, hammy and sometimes outright campy. and still it flows well, incredible designs, colors and i have so much fun with the cartoon action

Wu Sha Ling

Yeah same. I like seeing people enjoy my favorite movies. If this one doesn't do it for her, then so be it.

Mike Adams

"Important?"

Stick Figure Studios

That's unfortunate. I've seen this movie a gajillion times so I'll probably skip this reaction if she's not having a good time with it.

Greg S.

all movies are subjective, of course, but I have always found it to be a bunch of nonsense. I hate the revelation of the 5th element. Silly movie. Always appreciate your reactions though.

Walter

Possibly the greatest villain name ever though.

Wes Stewart

I have never understood the appeal of this one either. Glad I’m not the only one😊

Björn Von Knorring

I grew up with this movie and have a soft spot for it but knew you'd either really like it or not vibe with it at all. I've always described it to people as "European....aggressively European"

Choof

Yep, didn't think you'd like this one. I appreciate the fact that it absolutely swings for the fences in terms of ambition, but I think it's just TOO MUCH: THE MOVIE.

Matt Rose

Yay! Vin Diesel’s first movie! He’s Finger, the voice on the phone when we first meet Corbin.

djKENTO

Wow! Going by the comments above, I wonder how this movie won the poll in the first place! 😂 Personally, I really like this film. It’s one of those movies that if I stumble across it while channel surfing, I’ll watch it. Even though it wasn’t one of your favorites (code for I didn’t like it 😉) Cassie. I’m still looking forward to watching your reaction! Hopefully Casino Royale is more to your liking. 🤞

Robert da Spruce

Knew it! I didn’t like it either but it won the poll. 😈

Robert Snyder

That’s one of the first movies she reacted to on the channel.

Tim Raths

LOL!!!🤣🤣🤣 I couldn't stop laughing at your reaction to this! Thank you so much for making my day and making me smile and laugh after a rough and depressing day at work yesterday! My goodness Cassie, I can't help but notice how pretty you look, something about the eyelashes, plus I like what you did with your nails, very pretty color, sorry I couldn't help but notice lol! I know you said in the beginning of this reaction, that we are the best! Nah, you are the best Cassie, you never cease to make me and the rest of us Patrons smile and laugh, like I said in that live stream over a month ago, you and Carly are like the sisters I never had, I say that as a compliment! Don't worry, I don't hate you for not liking this movie too much, this movie isn't for everyone, it's kinda like an acquired taste lol! Me, I like it a lot, mainly for the cheesy humor, the action, the cast and just all the fun! Arguably one of the things that makes this movie so iconic is the irresistible and never aging model turned actress Mila Jovovich, who plays Leeloo, and her somewhat revealing outfit lol, heck it was this movie that made me a fan of hers! I was 9 years old when this movie came out, didn't see it until it was out of the theater! I about lose it when Chris Tucker (Ruby Rhods) squels like a girl, I'm just busting a gut every time lol! I'm a little surprised that you didn't recognize Ian Holm (the priest) he played old Bilbo Baggins in both The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, plus he was Ash the android in ALIEN lol😁 I'm just glad that you were able to appreciate this movie and Bruce Willis' character made you feel intrigued enough to enjoy it, and Gary Oldman really knows how to play a villain whether maniacal or goofy lol! Really enjoyed this reaction Cassie, thank you so much again for making my day and making me smile and laugh, you're the best! Totally worth staying up until 4 in the morning! Much love and support to you and Carly, and as always........ stay classy Cassie🥰😁😉👍🌹

Wesley White

The Sixth Sense was nominated for 6 academy awards. Have you seen that one?

Hat

Yet another of those films where I say "why on earth are people suggesting this to Cassie???" You would LOVE "The Last Boyscout", though. Too bad it wasn't on the list.

Art of Free Speech

I'm right there with you, Cassie. I never understood the popularity of 5th element. Unbreakable and 12 Monkeys are two of my all-time favorite movies.

CallMeWheels

No hate, Cassie. It’s a film some people like and others do not. That’s every movie ever. 🙂 I love the movie but find the absurdity and quirkiness of it can be a bit polarizing. Honestly, given the films you have liked reacting to, I’m not sure you’d like any of the films that were on the poll except RED or maybe Mercury Rising or Tears of the Sun … and even the last two I’d find hard to recommend for you. And that’s not to say any of the films on the poll shouldn’t be liked but just that everyone has different taste, which is a good thing. If we all liked the same things, the world would be a boring place.

Ian Forbes

I've watched this maybe 2 or 3 times. Chris Tucker, and his voice, is practically unbearable to me in this movie.

David Crabtree

It’s just a fun movie to me. Fast pace nonsense and action. Not a lot of thinking involved. Sometimes I need a movie like this.

Steven Ashford

I don’t like it either.

Joshua Stormont

The recent Bruce Willis movies are direct to video trash. Red Letter did a review of them just days before the news came out. It is speculated that he did all of them to make just to make quick money because he knew how bad it was going to get. The Red Letter reviews- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cd1eNS9HtXo

Mike Lemon

Don’t feel bad, I didn’t like it the first couple times I watched it it really took probably three viewings before I started liking it and now it’s one of my favorites. I still cringe at a few parts like the whole bada boom part but now it has a special place because my son, and I like to watch it together.

Patrick Gibbs

This is actually one of Gary Oldmans favourite roles. It was this film and Leon that catapulted him into bigger roles. This is not a film to watch regularly, but I always enjoy it whe I do!

Biggman83

I’m with you Cassie. Glad you’re being honest. I really don’t get the almost cult like following of the movie. Personally I hate it and find it annoying. I was surprised when it blew away all the other movies in the BW poll.

Steve Barrett

Gosh, I think I’ll give the video a thumbs up but skip watching it. I never understood this movie, nor the appeal for it. This is a film I bet Gary Oldman would like to forget. I’m a little surprised at it winning the poll, but I recognize I’m in the minority. However, I do remember begging Cassie to watch “Taking Chance” which I think it really saddened her and I felt horrible about it afterwards. So, Hit & Miss will occasionally happen (like Batman ‘89). 😁 Moving on….

Ike

Haha. That was funny!

Ike

That was really well said, Lou, cheers to you <3

Jim Frykman

I think the love/hate relationship a lot of people have with this film is being played out in the comments pretty well, but let me raise a toast to all of you who voted for this one and might be laying low in the comments for this one. Cheers to all of you fine folks!

Jim Frykman

Buckle up for those films to potentially not vibe!

Jim Frykman

It’s an essential aspect of movie watching, and therefore movie making, that we don’t all love the same thing. This movie is a lot like Big Lebowski, in that it has an ever growing cult fan base that will fight you (j/k) if you speak badly of the “The Dude’s” movie … but the overwhelming majority thinks it’s average or less. We need mixed reactions or every movie would have the same formula and always made without bold risks. The Fifth Element isn’t for everyone … but it is BOLLLD and I can appreciate it for that. There’s really nothing else like it. No apology required by anyone ever for not loving a movie, though. You’re building a very diverse library of work and seem to be doing really well at catering to everyone, a very difficult challenge I’m sure … I literally sweat on your behalf when I read comments from your members lobbying (to say the least) for their picks. With such diversity in screenings, you’re bound to get some personal taste clankers now and then. Good on ya, though … it’s been a fun journey.

Rollo Tomassi

Chris Tucker is great in everything, with the exception of this movie.

Shawn Kildal

Of course, she didn't enjoy it because it was not the best film to vote for. Sin City, Unbreakable or The Jackal would have been preferable.

John Cranberry

This is one of those movies that gets better with every watch. I was the same, not sure how I felt about it at first -but they had it on tv a million times one winter and now it’s one of my favs haha

Melissa Klokocki

Definitely a super overrated movie I don't get the hype either

Philip G.

Much better Bruce Willis movies to be seen. For some reason, this is a fan favorite. I had a strong feeling this would fall in the "Not my favorite" category. I'm sure Sticks is going to have a field day with this. We'll have Die Hard With A Vengeance to rebound with though. I love that Cassie gives an honest take on her reactions.

Shawn Kildal

thank you for being honest, I saw this once, that was too many times for me. there are so many great Bruce Willis movies, Red comes to mind

zynjams

I wish this hadn't won. Don't get me wrong, I actually love this film, but there's a lot I don't like and have to get through for the parts I enjoy. I rolled my eyes when it won, because I knew you wouldn't care for it. That's been happening a lot lately, movies winning polls for reactors I know will not like the films. It's frustrating. Thanks for getting through this one, and for being honest in your thoughts, Cassie.

Raven Dark

I was kind of expecting this, didn't even vote for it because of that. There was always a chance for Cassie to get really into it, but I thought it was slightly more likely this is not really going to be her kind of movie. I still hope it will be an entertaining reaction regardless. Personally, I just love this one, but I think I've watched it at the right time as a 15-year-old around 1999-2000. This was the very first movie I've seen in a digital format, watching it from two Video CDs on a PC monitor. (that's a 352×288, 1Mbit MPEG-1 video written onto a CD 😀) It is a super quirky, fun, entertaining movie that combines sci-fi, comedy, action and romance in a surreal and chaotic way. It is really one of a kind and even Besson could not reproduce the magic a second time in some of his other movies. It has a very unique style and sense of humor that is even more enhanced by the weird back-and-forth editing style, and a charismatic cast of odd and bizarre characters. However, I certainly agree it is not for everyone. I know a lot of people find it too silly, too loud, too weird or too cheesy. It is a real love it or hate it movie.

Gábor Árki

One of my favorite movies of all time!! I didn't know this was on itinerary, just made my night... no week!!

Riley

One of my favorites, though it's odd enough that I totally understand it not clicking with others. Though I do have to knock off a point for how annoying Chris Tucker is in it.

Guy Gordon

This movie is fine. Fun and innovative at its time but also very French, haha. I think it is just so different that it stands out and Milla Jovovich is all that and a bag of chips.

Jason Dolan

I agree, Cassie. Not my kinda film, either. Frankly, I thought it managed the impossible: being over-the-top and boring at the same time. Also, the relationship between Bruce Willis’ character and Mila Jovovich’s character was just plain creepy. He’s twenty years older than her and it shows. And Chris Tucker is unbearably annoying.

Sorry you didn't like it. It's one of my favorite guilty pleasures. At least it's off your list. The live with us top tier Patreons was fun. Hope you have a good rest of the week.

This movie is still *phenomenal* AND so God Damned important.

My wife flippin *loves* this movie. I enjoy it as well, but she absolutely adores it. We routinely yell "Aziz, light!" At each other

This is certainly…a movie. I heard the director Luc Besson started writing it when he was 16, and that totally clocks that a young French teen who reads a lot of sci-fi and comics wrote this. (But I do love the practical creature effects.)

I don't think I've ever watched it all the way through, terrible movie.

Joe Mallard

I think a lot of people, including me, like this movie despite itself.

Thank you. All of my friends love this movie and I genuinely don't get why. I was hoping it wouldn't win the poll but I knew it would

Steve Sanders

I though this film was AMAZING! when it came out, im glad you reacted to it, Much love and god bless cassie!

Edgar Gonzalez

I'm same way. There's lots of "moments" n scenes from this I've liked n shared as memes but also I engender the film as a whole being strangely long to sit through.

Kind of an odd one for Bruce Willis. Gary Oldman plays a goofy kind of villain nice to see the funnier side of him. Chris Tucker is a riot 😅🤣😂 Milla Jovovich (from resident evil movies) was only 17 in this movie That opera scene... I love it 😘

Catradora fan

You’re not alone. There were ‘mixed’ feelings on you watching this one!
