Loved this one. Another Nic Cage reaction that I’d love to see, Face Off !!!

Cassie would also enjoy Entrapment with Sean Connery & Catherine Zeta Jones from the late 90s.

Yeah, there are SOOOOOOOOO many worse action films that will bore the biggest action lovers to tears.

Honestly it's one of Michael Bay's best films, and he's a pretty bad director. People give too much importance on scripts instead of how much of an impression a film gives on the viewer in terms of uniqueness. It's cheesy as hell and that's part of the charm. It's like a fun adult cartoon with death and gore, perfect for a 13 year old This movie was my first introduction to Sean Connery and Nic Cage I think. It's a generic terrorist's action movie and isn't trying to be anything more.
I think my favorite Micheal Bay film might be Pain and Gain because it's secretly a satire comedy about the most douchey dumb types of criminals.

Totally true David, but when someone says “worst ever” that’s a pretty bold statement… I think a movie has to be pretty damn bad to deserve that title, and I don’t think THE ROCK comes anywhere close to that.
In fact, every other Michael Bay film is more deserving of that title… Except maybe AMBULANCE… that movie wasn’t too bad.

I’m 55. I’ve seen plenty of action movies. Most are garbage. I may have overstretched saying this is the worst ever, but I don’t see a good performance. The story is idiotic. Anyway, not going to get into a back and forth on it. Glad you liked it. I didn’t. I like Sean Connery in general and especially Ed Harris. Just don’t like the story. Not believable to me, so I never get caught up in it.

That's the beauty of all movies being subjective. Not everyone is going to like all the same movies, and not every movie is going to be for everyone.

Wow! Totally disagree there. “Worst ever”? Really!? You have not seen very many action films I take it.
Michael Bay is usually trash, yeah, but this is the one exception.

Agreed. No matter how Good your Intentions are, or how Righteous your Goals may be, if you have to put innocent lives at risk to accomplish them, then you will Always be in the Wrong.
PS: I do love the show Newhart, Larry and his Two Brothers Darryl. And most of the TV that I do watch is from the 1950s - 1990s. However, my Patron Name comes from a Novel and Film of the same name, released in 1946. Take a closer look at the image which accompanies the Name. It’s one of my All Time Favorites. :-)

Your reactions were great as always. But “the rock” is easily one of the worst action Hollywood pieces of garbage ever. Just an all around dumb film. Looking forward to other reviews!

Larry Darrell Agree with you 100%. Hummer’s saving grace is that he apparently intended the use of the weapons as a bluff. Of course, his actions still resulted in the terrorization of innocent hostages and the deaths of an entire SEAL team. Good intentions, they’ll get you every time. In fact, if this film has a “message”, I believe it would be that the ends DO NOT justify the means. PS: I assume your screen name is a reference to Newhart. If so, kudos to you for your excellent taste in sitcoms.

Understood. Love your reactions, including this one. I think it is often easy to mistake goals for methods. What they hoped to achieve was honorable and noble; their means of doing so was not. Please excuse me if I was overly harsh; I was in cranky old man mode when I first wrote this. Anyway, I continue to look forward to your future reactions. It’s with good reason that you’re the favorite reactor of so many, myself included.

General Hummel was 100% wrong in taking hostages and threatening the lives of thousands and thousands of innocent civilians, but for what it’s worth, General Hummel NEVER intended to actually go through with it. It was a Bluff. Another major mistake was not fully expressing his intentions to his men, then again he may not have gotten his men to go along.

Are they deliberately targeting civilian populations with prohibited chemical weapons like the baddies in the movie? If so, then yes, they are bad guys. It's called murder - which is quite different than warfare. Unless, of course, you believe the troops that liberated the death camps at the end of World War 2 were criminals. Pitiful straw man argument.

Cassie, I missed the YouTube premiere of this last night, but so glad someone mentioned THE UNBEARABLE WEIGHT OF MASSIVE TALENT in the chat and that you mentioned that you had seen the trailer and wanted to see it. I just watched the movie last week, thinking of it with The Rock on your channel and Mando coming up! The movie is an awesome action buddy comedy with an epic bromance between Nic Cage and Pedro Pascal that you would just love. I recommend the movie highly! I'm sorry I didn't see it in the theaters last year!

That's absurd. We're judged by what we do and some evil is too great to be excused by simply saying, "Well, he liked dogs." The villains in this film threatened the lives of more than a million people. If we can't say that absolutely makes them the bad guy, then who can we say is a bad guy? Ted Bundy had some good characteristics. But he was a monster. And that's exactly how he deserves to be remembered. Early in the film we're shown EXACTLY what a death via this chemical agent looks like. There is no excuse for threatening to inflict that kind of harm on innocent people, regardless of how noble the underlying cause. Moral relativism be damned.

That's a very absolutist position that they don't share because people are complicated and no one is 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘺 "good" or "bad" like some fairy tale. The best villains are in a complicated gray area, especially if you're able to empathize with them in some way, which this movie does a good job of doing.

Not sure why the sisters struggled so much with recognizing that General Hummel and his men were the bad guys. When you take dozens of innocent civilians hostage, putting them in harm’s way, and threaten to murder over 1 million other innocent men, women and children using chemical weapons, you are definitely the bad guys, regardless of how noble your goals may be.
