Magic came out when I was little, and the commercial scared me so much I'd leave the every time it came on. There was that creepy little rhyme...

Melinda

Hmmm. I think. Cassie. that you would have fun with Magic which is a "scary but not too scary" movie.

John Hagan

This is the brilliance of Mel Brooks.

I love the evidence here that you liked Men in Tights better than the commentariat seemed to think. This is exactly how it works with these sort of movies. It's stupid, but then you can't get the best parts out of your head and they become casual quotes sprinkled through your daily life. Forever. Mwahahaha! ;)

Here's also a documentary about the film: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zzTvsZ-Gx7M I had forgotten how wonderful and funny this movie is. Definitely going on my Top Shelf movies.

We watch this in school, no lie. For mass media class. Its pretty funny,,, goofy

Marty Feldman is so, so good in this. Cassie, you should watch the bloopers/outtakes from this on YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tOjH-yoEJe0

Matt Rose

Nobody screams and yells in movies quite like Gene Wilder. Love it.

Wes Stewart

High Noon, The Searchers, Shane, Outlaw Josey Wales, True Grit (I think the remake is better) and The Cowboys - just cause she'd love that one

She's seen UNFORGIVEN at least.

Great reaction Cassie. YF and Blazing Saddles, arguably, the 2 best Brooks and Wilder film collaborations, were both released in 1974, the year I graduated high school. In other words, I was the perfect age to appreciate these comic absurdities. My go to Halloween costume became a top hat, skull cap, glued on the neck zipper, red plastic thumb tacks taped to the neck, biker boots, a cane, and Voila! the most fun monster at the dance, yelling "Putting on the Ritz" from time to time. Watch The Ghost and Mr. Chicken for another fun and not too scary spooky film. Did you grow up in Calgary or

The Constable with the wooden arm is based on the Lionel Atwell character from "Son of Frankenstein".

Looks like you had a lot of fun watching YF. Thanks for watching the 1931 original first!

Stephen Malloy

I was just about to write that!

Peter Boyle played Frank the Dad in Everybody Loves Raymond

This raises the issue of appreciating Blazing Saddles. For those of us who grew up watching the hundreds of western movies and TV shows, we get the jokes. Maybe we could think of a short list of movies that Cassie could watch before she tries Blazing Saddles
