Christine (1983) - Full Reaction

This has been my fav scary but not too scary movie so far. I immediately fell in love with the setting, high school in the 80's. Such good characters and tension and suspense was high without gore and slashing. It feels wrong to say it was "fun", but it was almost that ;)

BTW we just hit 250k subs on YT!!! I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for watching these videos and supporting the channel here on Patreon. It really means so much to me and without you guys, this channel probably wouldn't still be a thing. This is short notice, but I want to do a live on Tuesday and have a small celebration! I'll make a separate post about this soon.

Christine (1983) - Full Reaction

Comments

In 1978 I was 17 and gave my virginity to my first ever serious girlfriend. A redhead named Christine. We only lasted 9 months because she was a nightmare girlfriend. Then 5 years later this movie came out!

Gregory L Costello

I was listening to this song and naturally I had to see if the song was dubbed over a classic film. 😁 Christine does look good in red. https://youtu.be/ualkhBlK9uo?si=wRrO4TvN59YAq697

Zane From Canada

this was my first novel I ever read, I read it for a book report in like 6th or 7th grade. My teacher thought I'd never read the whole thing, it's a long book. I had it read in one week, I couldn't put the book down. The movie is good, but like usual the book is better.

Ryan Towell

Next Halloween you should watch The Fog; another Carpenter flick that's scary but not too scary!

Odd Thomas

Such an underrated Carpenter film.

Odd Thomas

The gas station explosion and fiery Christine driving down the road was filmed just a few miles from my house in the Santa Clarita Valley, north of Los Angeles. I remember when they filmed the explosion. We could hear and feel it and the local news announced that it was for a movie and not real.

Tara

I felt like watching this again because, well, it's just a fun movie, especially for the season. And it's even more fun watching Cassie enjoy it. I thought it was funny how your "happy" predictions for the story, such as (wanting Arnie to fix up Christine and be nice to her and she won't hurt him) and (wanting Arnie and Christine to team up and get back at the bullies) all came true, just not in the positive way you were thinking. Doing the one movie leads to another bit, John Stockwell, who played Dennis, was in another Teenage/High School movie, My Science Project (1985). It's a Sci-Fi film, with some Coming of Age themes. Also, another High School film you would like, with John Stockwell, is Quarterback Princess (1983). It was a TV Movie starring a young Helen Hunt, trying to be her school's first female Quarterback. Then there's Keith Gordon, who played Arnie. He was in The Legend of Billie Jean (1985). One of the Ultimate Coming of Age films from the 80s. Also, with a young Christian Slater. A Must See at some point. And another film Back to School (1986). It's a college comedy starring Rodney Dangerfield, with a young Robert Downey Jr., and Burt Young, who you know as Paulie, in Rocky. There's some romance in some of these films as well. Cool Note: Both John Stockwell & Keith Gordon became Writers and Directors of their own projects before the 80's were done. Oh, Cassie, did you recognize the old man, George LeBay, who sold Christine to Arnie? That was Roberts Blossom. Same actor who played Old Man Marley, in Home Alone. He was wearing a back brace in Christine by the way.

Larry Darrell

The Thing is a must.

John Cranberry

Another couple of John Carpenter films I cherish are 1981 Escape from New York and 1988 They Live.

James Loveless

You have to watch the movie separately from the reaction video. Two different windows on computer; movie on tv & reaction on computer/phone/tablet/ other tv or any other combination.

Larry Darrell

Cassie if you're getting more into Carpenter you should try Big Trouble in Little China. No scares, just fun.

Demus Man

I’m with you Kevin, my thoughts exactly.

Larry Darrell

At least the movie gave us a much happier ending than the book.

Nathan Bishop

Wait, you're going to watch Saw but refuse to watch The Thing? Yikes.

Kevin Charley

1958 Plymouth Fury since I didn’t see it in the comments. 😈

Robert Snyder

this is one of those movies where i read the book and then had less interest in seeing the movie so it was nice to see a reaction

CarSVernon .

Now I feel like going to the drive in for baked potatoes.

Anthony Perez

Cassie, in 1978 there are no video cams or cellphones. This is why old horror movies are the best.

Powers209

"The FOG"?

Prof. Writhms

"Yeah, go to the office Buddy! You're 26!" 😆😆😆

Roberto Abitua

If you like coming of age and car movies I recommend American Graffiti & Gone in 60 Seconds (The Nicholas Cage version). They are both fun & enjoyable.

Una Vez En Una Luna Azul (Zathras says there sure are being a lot of Drazi here, but Zathras does not mind)

Cougar, pull up!

Jason Dolan

Another scary but not too scary suggestion: Needful Things. Great adaptation of a Stephen King novel.

Brian Lowery

The thing flopped initially, especially against ET that year, but it has definitely become a well respected horror thriller I think most would say. 👍

JC762

That was an awesome watch. I think you found a type of horror movie you like!

Scott Macaulay

Not sure if this is intended or not, but lower tier patrons (like me) are able to see this full reaction, where normally we aren't. Not complaining, but I believe full reactions are only for higher tiers. Just an FYI.

Kristin D

CUJO would be another good one.

Stick Figure Studios

Well, this was a fun reaction. I'd seen CHRISTINE before, but not in a long time (I'd completely forgotten, for example, that Harry Dean Stanton was in this). It's not quite top-tier John Carpenter for me (like HALLOWEEN, THE THING and ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK), but it's still good. If you like this kind of suspenseful but not too violent/gory Stephen King scary story, I'd recommend MISERY (which I voted for in the poll instead of 28 DAYS LATER) and/or CUJO next. Glad you enjoyed this. Once again, congrats on hitting the 250k subscriber milestone. You're leaving all the other sh*tters in the dust. ;-)

Stick Figure Studios

This certainly was a Halloween Treat. Thanks again.

Larry Darrell

You gotta do Misery next. Scary, but not too bad. And incredible acting as well.

Hunter

The locations from the movie 😀 https://youtu.be/Co9MxavLjs0

Björn Karlsson

I think what makes Christine so eerie is not the attacks or anything like that but Arnie’s descent into madness. The fact is that every single thing that happened w the old man’s brother happened w Arnie. In a way they had warning. I think the soundtrack was great w the atmosphere too. This movie definitely needs more love

GamerGal8684

The guy who played Denise in Christine also played Cougar on Top Gun

Michael Brown

I think John Carpenter's "THE FOG" (1980) is a scary one you can handle. No gore and it's a ghost tale. And it stars Jamie Lee Curtis (Halloween) with her mom Janet Leigh (Psycho). It's the movie he released after "Halloween", written by Carpenter as well.

Prof. Writhms

She will also looooooove Show me love. Maybe the best coming of age movie that has ever been made 😇

Björn Karlsson

Well Cassie, we all know how you enjoy a love story and this movie delivers an unexpected one haha. I think Ghost with Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore would be perfect for the spooky but not too spooky category and has a more heartfelt love story that I think you'd love. I hope you can get to it before the month is over and if not, maybe next Halloween!

Je suis Napoleon

If you truly do like high school coming of age movies, then I would highly recommend LUCAS. I have no doubt you would love it!

Shawn Kildal

The other cute girl in the movie, the blonde one, was a very young Kelly Preston (John Travolta's wife) who had passed away not too long ago

Shawn Kildal

Really enjoyed this reaction. John Carpenter movies always have such a good sense of mood and atmosphere, that’s what he specializes in most. Christine is definitely one of the more fun ones. Prince of Darkness is another fun scary but not too scary Carpetner film.

Johnny Liu

Great to see Cassie watching a quality film for a change. Some of the winners in these poles have been disappointing to say the least. Christine is one of my best films to see. Glad Cassie acknowledged it and enjoyed it.

John Cranberry

Also, forgive me if you mentioned this already, but Christine communicates through the lyrics of the golden oldie songs playing on her radio.

Patrick Flanagan

Very glad you enjoyed this. This is probably considered a "minor" John Carpenter film - good but not a masterpiece - but I've always had a soft spot for it. He took this job at the last minute, needing work after his previous film (THE THING) had flopped, but I think he did an admirable job. The novel has significant differences from the movie so it might be fun to compare and contrast the two.

Patrick Flanagan

There is no better song to start a party than Bad to the Bone by George Thorogood and the Destroyers. The royalty in this film is Harry Dean Stanton, the detective. Check out his resume on Wikipedia.

Grinznmore

The V badge on the front grill is correct for that year. It's original design rooted in the sail of a ship or the V8 under the hood; the films take goes back over 6,000 years when the V was a symbol for female sexuality. Clearly, the writers recognized the opportunity to drop references throughout the film, nothing sweeter than the smell of a new car, except....... This makes for a very erotic death scene for Arnie as he touches Christine for the last time. When Christine get's cubed, the emblem is still visible.

Grinznmore

For anyone in the 90s fan base of Baywatch, you all may recognize Alexandra Paul from that lol

GamerGal8684

Maybe it could be in the plot of Fast and Furious 25.

Richard Bourne

According to an inflation calculator, $250 - $300 in 1978 is the same as $1,115 - $1,339 today. I think Arnie definitely overpaid. But, it was Love at First Sight, and you can't put a price on Love.

Larry Darrell

"Is this the 'Halloween' music?" Lol! My friends and I used to joke that all of John Carpenter's scores were interchangeable. I have always wanted to make/see a parody sequel for this, in which Christine winds up in Hill Valley, CA in the early 80s, is converted into a time machine by Doc Brown, bonds with Marty, and terrorizes the Tannen line throughout history.

David Patterson

While haunted houses are common horror hangouts, motor vehicles are a rarity. Duel (1971)comes to mind. My Mother the Car was a 1965 comedy sitcom that only lasted one season. Given the the enthusiasm of "car lovers" and the personality we lay on these modern chariots, it's odd we aren't flooded with possessed vehicles. It appears Christine insists on monogamy. Side note: any car or dog used in a popular film increases demand and $$$. It appears Christine commanded $270,000 in auction. Typical value $20,000. That Fury front end has loads of personality.

Grinznmore

The one thing about Christine is that it has this character who you root for in the beginning and and then watch his decline into madness. And even in the Final Act has no Redemption. In the end even though Christine is in a wallycube slowly transforming back, Christine did not lose. LOL

Tonio

Cassie would not enjoy THE THING.

Jason Chirevas

It’s incredible to me Cassie hasn’t watched CLUE or TOMBSTONE yet.

Jason Chirevas

I saw "Christine" a long time ago. I used to call it a boy and his car. It is a creepy movie. There is "A Boy and His Dog" movie with a very young Don Johnson but it is a lousy movie, not worthy of your time IMHO.

Richard Bourne

John Carpenter's 1982 "The Thing" is a way better movie and worthy of a watch. It is a moive with no women in it at all, just a bunch of guys in an Antartica research station. Their isolation is a huge factor and creates the intensity of the situation. You really need to watch it Cassie.

Richard Bourne

Very underrated movie and one of the best King adaptations.

Mr Trick

93,475 miles is 150,433ish kilometers. A kilometer is a little more than half a mile (0.6ish).

Mike Lemon

You should really consider watching the crow for Halloween

Marvin dishman

Just in case you’re were wondering that is a Plymouth fury

Marvin dishman

You gotta watch Clue (1985). Not a horror or a halloween movie but it's spooky.

LionBro

250k , YAY!! I wish you many more!!!! Also hope you consider reacting to Fright Night (1985)

Joe Lazarus

I always root for the car in this movie. Just love that model!

Rainbow Dash

Classic Cassie: consistent consideration and compassion... Christine... A Creepy Car Story - Great Reaction

Terry Yelmene

Cassie, thanks for posting this today. We really enjoyed this watch along. So glad you liked the movie. It's one of our favorite spooky films to watch in October.

London Davis

No time to watch along now but I'm happy to hear that Cassie actually enjoyed a John Carpenter movie. Congrats on 250K:)

Jay

Just out of curiosity, will you be continuing the Marvel shows?

Andrew Hogan

Cassie, I remember when you were about ye ^ high with perky enthusiasm and about 75K subscribers. Just a little thing, full of romcoms and high hopes. So cute: Now look at you - a grown little lady with 250,000 subscribers, a military footlocker, boxing gloves, a little green guy and a cast iron stomach. Where has the time gone?!?! LOL - Congrats, I’m happy to be a part of this ;-)

Ike

wow!!! this makes me want to read the book, i think this has been my fav october movie!!!

Cassie

RIP DARNELL!

Cassie

no way!! i wondered about that! i thought it looked so good!

Cassie

Ride with me one day in front passenger. 400hp modded 370Z. Done a some street racing. Pretty good but you might pee your pants lol

William Bryan

I first read "Christine" by Stephen King in about 1983, right after the movie came out. Surprisingly it's tremendously moving, especially for guys. Most of us would kill or die for our closest friends, but we never say it out loud. The first third and last third of the book are written "first person" from Dennis's point of view, and you can feel how much he loves Arnie, and his fear as he sees what is happening to him. And when they lose Arnie at the end, his final words about Arnie still pluck the heart-strings. Dennis told Junkins what happened, then he told it to Arnie's dad. Writing in the first person he said, "Now I've told the story a third time; and the third time, they say, pays for all. Rest in peace Arnie. I love you man." For men of that generation, that's as heartfelt a declaration you will ever see.

Cliff Endicott

Yes. You need your own copy.

Ben Livingstone

Is the movie supposed to be blurry with no sound?

Randall Jones

Congrats on 250k YouTube subscribers

Sean Stuart

This is another I grew up on and used to watch ALL THE TIME. <3

Drew

Congrats of the 250k subs Cassie (and Ben) Well deserved for all the hard work. The "Star" of Christine is a 1958 Plymouth Fury, which fun fact, in reality never came in the colours shown in the movie. They were all in the colour of the other cars on the production line, a Beige. In SKs novel, the owner ordered it specially with that custom paint job. Darnell - the workshop owner - despite being nice to Arnie, had to die because he was a witness to Christine returning on her own, all burned out, after killing Buddy Repperton and the rest of his group.

Julian Corbett

My favorite John Carpenter movie. Yes, he has a lot of horror classics, but there’s something so cool and awesome about this. It’s like the perfect metaphor of good kid gone bad. Coolest horror/after-school special ever.

Alex Villarreal

Congratulations Cassie, on 250k , I love this movie also just a little fun fact I've seen the behind the scenes for this movie and every time you see the car get damaged or crushed in the film , they had to use a separate car every time . I think they had to destroy like 40 cars or something like that ..... crazy to think about

Wyatt Nuxoll

Cassie, you would enjoy Tremors (1990) and Fright Night (1985). Both have had sequels and remakes due to popularity. Regarding classics, War of the Worlds (1953) still stands strong. Tom Cruise did a remake. Finally, on classic sci-fi, The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951). Congratulations on achieving another milestone. Ever forward.

Grinznmore

Congratulations from Sweden 🥳🥳

Björn Karlsson

Congratulations, Cassie!

John

I worked on a Launch Site, SLC-6 at Vandenberg A.F.B, in California for nearly 20 years. We, of course, had to use an enormous crane built into the facility to stack stages of the rocket as we built it. The first time I walk into the crane booth I noticed a placard on the wall that said "Christine." So I asked the crane operator, who was a good friend of mine, "Why do you guys, (the Crane Crew), call the crane Christine?" He casually replied, "Because sometimes it will work and start moving on it's own, uncommanded, which can be kind of scary..." 😂🤣😂🤣 Oh, and congrats on the 250K mark. Although I'm sure it's destiny go much higher. 👍🏻🙂

'Pappy' Johnston

Congrats on 250K Cassie and Ben

Alex Gorell

Congrats on 250K! It’s very well deserved, watching movies and shows with you is an utter delight :)

Patrick Egan

If you liked the setting and the 80’s mood of this, then you’ll also like Fright Night (1985) even though it’s definitely a tad scarier. And congrats on 250k👊 fully deserved!

Shehab Dawoud

Congratulations on 250k, the best is yet to come. Onward and upward. ✌

Danny (Icarus)

Yep. Was just going to point that out. Thanks. Next scary, but too scary movie? The Curse of the Typo.

Robert Jewell

*Happy Squee*

Coleton B.

Congrats on 250k subs!!! 🎉

Robert da Spruce
