Legends of the Fall - Full Reaction

Well, this movie broke us, so incredibly good and so sad and I don't know if I loved it or how to feel.  I don't know if it was the story, the writing, the acting (probably all 3) but I could feel all their hurt so much.

Sorry about the gasping every time Brad Pitt enters the screen.

Legends of the Fall - Full Reaction

Comments

Tragedy eroded all of these lives until the fall... left only... the Legend. Cassie and Carly fell with every one of them... 'feeling' it all... crying. (of course, there WAS Brad Pitt)

Terry Yelmene

It is so nice watching these with you guys. I haven't watched this since the 1st time I watched it back when it first came out and I was a teen working at Blockbuster video. I know exactly what it means to appreciate this film and NOT bring yourself to watch it again. For the record.. up until THIS movie; I had written Brad Pitt off as just another actor pretty boy for the girls to thirst over. Brad Pitt's won me over in this and many other movies after. Fun watch-along guys.

Doc Savage

Been waiting on this reaction for along time. It's been one of my favorites growing up. Having Cassie on, made it even better. I appreciate y'all. Many thanks from a movie loving son of a gun🙂👍

Native Dude

Another great movie I haven't seen since it first came out. Great reaction by you and Carly. It is a hard movie to watch. It is very emotional. It was interesting how flushed Brad Pitt could make you, Cassie. 😊

Rick Williams

Meet Joe Black must be next, another Brad Pitt and Anthony Hopkins film. And much opportunity to thirst after Brad lol A beautiful film. Great reaction. Legends of the Fall is in my top 5 fave movies of all time.

Jonathan Patrick

@Jon Johns lol I remembered her saying that, too funny. My parents? a little different. Recently the 30th anniversary of seeing White Men Can't Jump in theatres with the family. I was 7 lol.

Erik Daniel

the story of a man to heckin' good looking for this world.

rubberkidney

Tara, Cassie has shared a funny story about E.T. during a Livestream... She was watching it at home, and early in the movie the kids are calling each other bad names... Cassie's parents made her stop watching it 🤣 so she considers it as eligible for a "first time watch"...

Jon Johns

Agreed!

Damon

I think this is Brad Pitt’s best movie. Like you both said, so much was going on. You could really feel the deep emotional hurt and loss that was experienced on so many levels. The brothers love for each other, the love of a father for his sons and vice versa, their love for their country, the love between Samuel and his new fiancé, the physical attractions, the jealousy, the guilt, the emotional pain and suffering brought by war, and the family bonds that were tested and torn to pieces.

N M

This^^^ a little long but its a great film with a fantastic movie score by Thomas Newman. You and your sister can finally watch a romance movie...with a twist.

Stephen Lewis

Both Robert Redford and Brad Pitt humorously credit Steve McQueen for their careers. Before Steve McQueen blond haired men mostly played the dark-haired lead’s best friend. Brad Pitt always wanted to play Steve McQueen in a biopic, but never found the right project

Steve Holton

cassie already seen it https://letterboxd.com/pib1/films/

Wu Sha Ling

Since you love Brad Pitt, can we expect a Fight Club reaction sometime soon?

granny_goodness

I haven't seen Thelma & Louise, but I think it would make a good reaction movie.

ArsTropica

Another great reaction Cassie! Again, I haven’t seen this movie in a long time and although I remember what happens with the brothers, I forgot that last scene with Alfred and I was a mess. Brad’s first movie role was in Thelma and Louise before people knew who he was. I remember seeing that movie in the theater and they show Brad without a shirt holding a hairdryer and pretending it was a gun and all the women in the theater let out a loud collective gasp all at the same time, so I understand lol. I remember he was known as the guy from Thelma and Louise for a little while after that movie. Women would say “Have you seen the guy from Thelma and Louise?” When he did A River Runs Through It, directed by Robert Redford, some people dubbed him the next Robert Redford because he looks a lot like a young Robert Redford with the blonde hair. Interesting fact, before he became famous in the 90’s he was roommates with Jason Priestley from Beverly Hills 90210. They were up and coming actors going on auditions. I wasn’t sure if you’d recognize Anthony Hopkins from Silence of The Lambs and I know Henry Thomas (Samuel) as Elliot from E.T. I hope that one will make the list soon , if you haven’t already seen it. 🍿

Tara

You might like A RIVER RUNS THROUGH IT. Another Pitt vehicle. Not quite as depressing

nick bell

This one has some heartbreaking moments, add that to your reaction to those moments and this ish was extra sad this time lol. Also I hope you turned down your Harrison pic for that one. I don't know how he would feel during Brad's scenes. Especially his intro scene, good god ladies pump the breaks lol that was too funny. Great reaction as always, thanks and Happy Easter!

Erik Daniel

Wonderful reaction ladies. The movie was as beautiful as it was tragic. Beautifully told. Beautifully shot. Beautifully acted. And so beautifully sad as well. One of those movies where you kinda sit in silence for a few moments as the credits roll. But the silence is soon broken because you guys keep making subconscious noises every time Brad Pitt appears on screen! 😀 Especially Carly! 😂 You guys were pretty smitten! Not sure if anyone mentioned it. But Samuel is played by Henry Thomas. Who is probably best known for playing Elliot in E.T. the Extraterrestrial. Even though that was a pretty emotional roller coaster, I had a great time watching along with you two! Looking forward to My Cousin Vinny! Have a great weekend you two!

Robert da Spruce

Epic story, epic movie but depressing as Hell... Thanks for reacting!

Marc Levesque

Like I said on discord , this is the only film I've seen my mother cry about. Watching with Cassie and Carly reminded me of that and because Im not as jaded as I was back then I felt how they did. Please you two no matter what you do in life please be the open emotional emphatic people you are now because it will lead you to living the best life. Thanks for letting us in and seeing you be so vulnerable. This is why we love you both.

David Freese

The Brad Pitt thirst was real in this one.

granny_goodness

Most difficult part for me was when they all ran into each other at the fair. Julia Ormond was so good in this movie

Cole Jennett

Wait a few years and you'll want to revisit this one for the rich storytelling and beautiful visuals.

ArsTropica

To me the saddest part is when tristian finally comes home and his father is barely able to communicate with him. He lost so much time.

Philip G.

I thought movies were supposed to have, like, an arc. Also, the idea of the Mean Streets of Helena was pretty funny.

Carol_White

Nice change of pace after this. She needs it

Steven Ashford

How have I never even heard of that movie? I will definitely be checking that one out.

Mike Lemon

If you haven't seen it already, I would recommend MEET JOE BLACK. It reunites Brad Pitt with Anthony Hopkins. Critically, it missed the mark a bit, but it's an interesting premise, and I think between your Pitt...*ahem*...FANDOM, we'll call it, and the love story, you would enjoy the movie.

Gary Giaimo

I’ll go ahead and say I think you have too many problems with the process here and suggest maybe this isn’t for you. Your level of consternation is, in my opinion, inordinate and, I’ll hazard a guess, doesn’t contribute positively to anyone’s experience here.

Jason Chirevas

Gideon James

Beautiful Alberta and BC on display in this one.

Andrew

Both God’s and Man. Yeah. Hits you right in the gut

Steven Ashford

A gut wrenching movie.. When Alfred says he played by all the rules and lost, I thought "Welcome to life Alfred, welcome to life."

David

First reaction since Twelve Years A Slave that I've looked forward to, and it didn't disappoint! :-) I'm going to throw out a recommendation for What's Eating Gilbert Grape, if Cassie hasn't seen it. I think she and Carly would really love it. Johnny Depp and Leonardo DiCaprio crush it along with a great supporting cast.

Jeff I.

This movie lets you experience a lot of despair and sorrow that hopefully we never have to experience in real life, but when we do have to experience it, we are somewhat prepared for it thanks to movies like this.

Jason Dolan

I'm sure the tears in my eyes were for Carly's tender emotions,I was holding on until she cried.💜 there is a universal truth to war and corruption,it destroys families,it tears at the very fabric of humanity..Next logical Brad Pitt film would be "A River Runs Through It" directed by Robert Redford..

Celeste McAllister

In some regards, this is a horror movie for Cassie and Carly.

Jason Dolan

I think after this emotional train wreck Carly has earned a pick of her own!

Steven Ashford

Whatever the movie's problems, you certainly can't fault those two elements.

Stick Figure Studios

I remember watching this one in the theaters when it came out and it is still such a breathtaking, beautiful, heartbreaking film. When the camera cuts away from the bootlegger guy falling down to show Alfred lowering his rifle, the entire audience in the theater I was in started cheering and clapping SO loud. It's still one of the most amazing experiences I've had watching a movie in the theaters.

Rue

Great reaction. Cassie you were holding back on full blown ugly crying, you kept together. Probably the most emotional I’ve ever seen Carly. I kept it together until Isabel. I was a mess from there to the end. The music is phenomenal. Great acting and great story. Together make it the an emotional roller coaster .

Steven Ashford

This is one of my all-time favorite films. Such a beautiful looking film, great story, emotional and brilliantly acted by all. Great reaction ladies

Bryan Harris

Well done Ben! This was a very fast turn around from the actual reaction! Kudos!

Cole Jennett

This one hits close to home with me in that my older brother was always my protector and watched out for me. A terrible event caused us to drift from each other until we were well into our 40s when we were finally able to reconcile. All those years lost for what seems like nothing now. He passed in January of '21 just two weeks shy of his 57th birthday and how I wish I had those years back. Alfred coming back to protect his family reminds me of my brother doing the same thing after being apart from us all those years. This film is definitely a special one to me. I'll be watching it this weekend for sure. Thank you for the reaction, ladies. God bless y'all.

Damon

She is absolutely mesmerizing, agreed.

Damon

"It was a good death." I think everyone (regardless of their sexual orientation) fell in love with Tristan in this movie ;)

Uncle 'Traveling' Matt

The ladies got their eye candy but can we agree how stunning Julia Ormond is in this film?

Robin Craft

As long as the framerate is the same it should be no problem. I found for example that my dvd-copies often lag behind Cassies copy but movies bought/rented on Itunes line up perfectly. I will see how this works out with Netflix but there has been differences there before.

Björn Von Knorring

I wish the full reactions weren't to difficult to watch. Syncing the video is damned near impossible

Eric Cable

I love The Edge. And it's the same bear in both films! I would love a reaction to The Edge someday. It's a great film.

Future Boy

Nothing like a good spoiler to completly ruin the movie.

Andy Hafler

Anthony Hopkins is one of the best. He too, fought a bear in The Edge (1997). A terrific action survival film.

G

Well, I hate this film and adore Far and Away, so there’s no accounting for taste.

Daniel Pulliam

The scene where Tristan is crying over ******'s grave kills me every time I watch this movie. Absolutely devastating. Great reaction, Cassie and Carly.

Gary Giaimo

I have never seen this before but I think I see where this is going. Alfred will kill Tristan out of jealousy, then himself out of remorse. Ludlow kills himself out of grief. I am more amused by the girls fawning over Brad Pitt. Don't think this is Edward Zwick's best movie. I think The Last Samurai and Glory are better. Not really into this love square thing.

Brian McGovern

"Brad Pitt in a Western? Feels kinda wrong, or maybe could be right." Brad Pitt did another western, and it's pretty damn good as well. The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007).

G

Do you think better of Anthony Hopkins after this movie?

Mr. Killeverything

The Cider House Rules also has the same love story vibes and a great movie you could react to.

Heartfelt

Glad you like it. I think if not for the ending with way Alfred came back it would be an ok movie at best. It would have just been a movie of despair and a breaking of a family. Instead, it ends with hope and reconciliation. Cassie is this the 2nd film you have seen with Sir Anthony Hopkins on this channel. He can play one of the best onscreen villains in Hannibal Lecter and then play this powerful father figue.

Sean Stuart

of all the hollywood crushes women get over men - i understand brad pitt. That is a man's man not some skinny heartthrob boy. Julia Ormond i wish was in more movies the only other one i can think of is First Knight with Richard Gere and Sean Connery.

Sean Stuart

This is one of those movies that makes me cry every time. Thanks for the reaction. Can't wait for My Cousin Vinny. I know you'll love it.

Zachary Carter

Surprised neither recognized Kicking Bird's wife (Dances With Wolves) was in this. Was it just my imagination but was Cassie fluffing her hair each time Brad Pitt appeared.? Hmm. Anyway, this was my first time watching this and it was way better than I thought it would be. Great reaction as always ladies. Thank you

Shawn Kildal

remember watching this as like at 13 on tv so edited down but that along with forest gump and last of mohicans opened me up to the power of film and all the emotions and transplanting me to a different time that a Star Wars or cartoons or Disney films could do

Sean Stuart

I actually saw LEGENDS OF THE FALL on the big screen with some friends when I was in college and we all had about the same reaction: it's not good... but it's not unenjoyable either. It's just so grandiloquent, so epic, so cloyingly cornball with such huge, tragic characters and deaths that the whole thing just becomes kind of a silly, overwrought soap opera that makes films like TITANIC and GONE WITH THE WIND look subtle by comparison. Around the time Anthony Hopkins starts giving an embarrassingly cartoonish Quasimodo-like performance with his grotesquely malformed face and his limp hand scratching out words on the mini-chalkboard hanging around his neck, I realized that this movie will leave no melodramatic stone unturned. Still, it's better than FAR AND AWAY.

Stick Figure Studios

My mother loves this movie... You can spot the scenes that were filmed in Morley, Kananaskis, and Ghost Lake near Cochrane.

ExploreWinnipeg

The cinematography by John Toll and the music by James Horner are both so amazing in this film.

Aaron Hawkins

I've never seen Carly this upset before!😮 This is definitely a first.

Todzilla

I’ve been looking forward to watching along with this one. I’ll forgive your gasps over Brad Pitt if you forgive mine over Julia Ormond!

Future Boy

Brad Pitt was also great in A River Runs Through It which was directed and narrated by Robert Redford. I think Cassie also mentioned the movie Sabrina is on her sometime down the road list of movies to see. Julia Ormond plays the title character in that. It had a decent chance of being pulled in that giant bag of Harrison Ford movies she had on her last Livestream (just kidding..)
