Black Widow - Full Reaction

Ok so this was my first time watching Black Widow but Carly had seen it when it first came out, although had forgotten quite a bit as you will see haha.  I really enjoyed this movie and Black Widow moved way up in the ranks from my 2nd least favorite Avenger.

I think between Black Widow and Age of Ultron would be my least favorites in the MCU. This should have come out after Civil War, and maybe I would have appreciated more. But I’ll admit I enjoyed both Florence Pugh and David Harbour in this one.

Joe M

@joe Actually, I can deny that the action was excellent. It was generic MCU factory produced garbage, random noise, and completely loses all verisimilitude. In addition to terrible CGI in many places. I love it when people who are doing mental gymnastics to defend the indefensible pull out the old "certain expectations that weren't met". It is laughable. You might want to come up with a thought on your own. Wait, I stand corrected, you are right, it did fail my expectations... that is the expectations of a film having at least average writing, with at least a decent plot, actual character arcs, and being somewhat entertaining. The expectation of wanting a studio to not treat its customers like mindless sheep, who will buy anything. (Though, with reactions like yours I can see why they think they can and do get away with it). So yes, those expectations were not met by this film. You are right, real comic book fans didn't like the portrayal of characters in this film and rightly so. When you have invested a large portion of your time to reading and supporting a comic character throughout the years and when your favorite character finally is represented on the big screen but the only thing it has in common with your character is the name... you might understand why a person would be pissed. There are a million MACROSCOPIC issues with this film but I know a cult follower when I see one and I would just be wasting my breath. Just because it has an IP brand name on it... doesn't mean it is good and that you have to like it. Then again, I suspect you find shiny, jangly keys very entertaining.

Doug Fisher

Why are you such a masochist?? 😁🤣

Doug Fisher

While I don't think this movie was particularly bad, it wasn't all that great either. But it DID give us Yelena, one of the most entertaining characters in the entire MCU :)

Patrick Egan

She’ll watch it. She hasn’t seen it yet. I think Dave may be mixing it up with something, maybe Daredevil?

Cole Jennett

If she did watch Hawkeye, she would have recognized someone (character) from that show that was in this movie? :) No spoilers.

Philip Alan

I think she saw it on her own.

David Freese

Very insightful, thank you! She needs to fire her MCU advisor, lol.

Cole Jennett

I asked on the live stream and the end credit scene will be added to the youtube edit.

Simon Haynes

You guys are so awesome thank you for sharing a small part of your lives with us . Great movie Great reaction. Go back and watch the end credit scene Sad and Shocking 😲

Sam R.

Great Reaction! I always thought Natasha deserved her own movie because she is a pivotal character in the MCU and this one was fitting. Cinematically, I think the film itself in on par with Solo - in that it is an origin story for a character that was killed off (it’s like Shondra Rhimes has a desk at Disney). But yes, END CREDIT SCENE!! I hope you ladies watched the end credits scene. If not, go back, watch it and pretend you watched it just after cutting off the camera.😉

Ike

Thanks for the suggestion! I'll definitely check that one out.

Damon

It was horribly written and shoehorned between Infinity War and Endgame for one reason: money. There were 3 or 4 writers for the movie and I'd say they didn't watch any of the previous MCU movies involving the Tesseract. The powers that Captain Marvel exhibited would come from the Power Stone (manipulate energy and increased strength), not the Space Stone (from the Tesseract) which grants the user instantaneous travel between places. The final straw was seeing how Fury lost his eye when this entire time we were led to believe it was some horrible betrayal. Bottom line is they made Marvel too overpowered when they had the most powerful Avenger in Wanda already (even Feige has said this). So much so that you never felt Marvel was in any danger at all. So it was difficult to care about her. It's the dreaded Superman curse. Sure the movie made them boatloads of money but there's a reason the movie wasn't well liked.

Damon

That’s one of my favourite movies, they definitely picked the best person to play Paige. Stephen Merchant did a great job directing it as well.

Dean Holt

Ah yes. I remember her saying that now. Plus, I should have waited to watch this reaction video before asking.

Shawn Kildal

You should check out Florence Pugh in the movie Fighting With My Family. It's based on a true story of a female wrestler who makes it big in WWE. Really good.

Shawn Kildal

She said it was Captain Marvel.

Johnny

Reading Cassie's intro has me curious to know, who is Cassie's least favorite Avenger?

Shawn Kildal

I don’t mind this movie, but I do think it could have been done a little better. It absolutely feels like a movie that is meant to pass the torch which is unfortunate because she deserved her own movie and it really doesn’t even let her shine. I’m not a huge Florence Pugh fan, I don’t dislike her, but I also don’t get all the hype. Harbour and Weisz are solid as always. The action is where it gets interesting, most people couldn’t stand that she was basically un-killable in this, but I’ve heard she does have a small dosage of the super serum in her from the Red Room experiments according to the comics, but who the hell knows. Not the best, not the worst, but she deserved better, and there’s the streaming release disaster, which was unfortunate.

Andrew Hogan

Lol, I thought she said Pacemaker

Andrew Hogan

Will you be watching hawkeye?

END CREDIT SCENE!!!!!!!!!

Alan Kobb

I know loads of people didn’t like it but don’t really get the hate regards to Captain Marvel. Really like her sense of humour and how she delivers the lines. Also thought it was a fun movie also got a bit of 90s nostalgia. As regards to Black Widow this is the 2nd times I’ve seen it and I’m still not a fan, I just think it’s a bit dull in places and doesn’t have the normal Marvel magic. The only great thing about it was Florence Pugh performance but glad you both enjoyed it.

Dean Holt

Others have said it, but I'll add my voice as well. You have to watch the post credit scene! It is not the little time jump where she gets the jet. There's a clip after all the credits.

Reece Coventree

Wow, I don't think a more eloquent critique has ever been put forth in the annals of the English language. LOL

Craig Russell

As I'm sure many here have, and will say, please make sure you watch the post credits scene. It does connect to future content you may watch.

Rainbow Dash

I really liked her in We Bought a Zoo also.

Jen Barnes

Can you do a reaction to the post credit scene, and add it to the YouTube edit please?? Thank you 🙂

Ed Garland

Maybe you could add the reaction to the post credit scene to the YouTube edit? Or maybe you already watched it off camera? Two minor details. You can see Natasha wearing the green vest with all the pockets that her sister gave her at the beginning of Infinity War. Also a little foreshadowing at the beginning of the movie with Natasha in the trailer settling in for an evening watching the James Bond film Moonraker, which has the secret agent at the end of that movie in a battle with the bad guys in a secret station high above the earth.

MikeLL

Um... Did you not watch the post-credits scene on purpose or did you not know there was one?? After WandaVision nd Spider-Man, it finally makes more sense!!

Craig Russell

This really was a good movie. Some good character development, touching moments, and excellent action which can't be denied by those who say the movie was bad. Some people didn't like the story line at all because they had certain expectations that weren't met. They didn't like the portrayal of Taskmaster because it didn't reflect the comics. And they didn't like some of the overlooked things like the lack of accent or whatever microscopic scrutiny they have for directing and acting choices. To me its not as bad as people make it out to be and all in all a very underrated MCU movie. Great reaction.

joejud1017

I love Yelena, her sense of humor just gets me every time I watch this.

David RedEagle

Okay, it seems like you need to do some Scarlett Johansson rehabilitation: Jojo Rabbit Her Marriage Story Lost in Translation The Prestige Chef Ghost World The Man Who Wasn't There The Island Some other incredible performances by ScarJo, but in characters where you will not like her as much, haha Match Point Vicky Christina Barcelona Don Jon (she deserved a Best Supporting Actress nomination for this performance)

Jason Dolan

I caught that as well

Jason Dolan

You'll have to go do a separate reaction video for the post credits scene for this one as it sets up something pretty important!

Jason Dolan

I was hoping they'd zoom to it. I know those tears would've surely come, especially after seeing Carly's reaction to remembering that Natasha was dead.

Damon

Just finished rewatching it with y'all and it was hilarious seeing Carly's mischievous smile when she knew something was about to happen. I knew the sister aspect of Natasha and Yelena would hit home with you two. That was a lot of fun. Thanks again for a great reaction video. :D

Damon

omg the post credit scene .... wanted to see you cry!!!! hahaha

Brian Landers

I just knew that after you watched this, Natasha would move up your rankings. How could she not? Her character arc is nearly almost as good as Wanda's, although before this movie we just had hints about the Red Room and what she went through. I'm glad y'all enjoyed this one.

Damon

I figured you'd watch Loki before Shang-Chi but it doesn't really matter for those. I personally think the music and the action in this were awesome and that's what people should focus on. :D

DaftBasterd

James A. Janisse (with monocle, cigar, and top hat): "BIZ-NESS!"

Uncle 'Traveling' Matt

Hopefully you caught the end credit scene. Some more tenderness, followed by getting a common thread running through 2 other shows.

Chris Mick

This flick sucked.

warcrimes

Cassie - Were you able to go back and watch the end credit scene?

Dave Hill

I knew you'd like the sister relationship in this one. I loved this movie! I went in with the lowest expectations. Team Peace Maker!! (Task Master)

Philip Alan

Greetings from Budapest! Already seen this one before putting new MCU content on hold for a while (kind of having an MCU/superhero fatigue after phase 3 ended). Not the kind of movie I would be considering to rewatch, but I think I will give it another go tonight with Cassie and Carly. Some interesting trivia: this wasn't Scarlet Johansson's first time in Budapest. Before her real breakout role in Lost in Translation (2003) she starred in An American Rhapsody (2001) at age 15 playing a teenage daughter who is struggling to find her identity after her family had to leave her behind as an infant when fleeing Communist Hungary and then got separated from her foster family years later to be reunited with her real mother.

Gábor Árki

This is my 3rd attempt at finishing this movie lol finally some incentive

Philip G.

I'm a fan, though the movie has the distinction of arguably being the movie that killed Black Widow, not so much because of the story (they've shown they can resurrect any character) but because they slighted Scarlett Johansson out of a significant part of her box office take. Scarlett and Disney have since settled their suit, and word is Scarlett will take a production role with Disney but she affirmed she's done playing that character.

Brent Fugett

This is my first time watching trying to catch up on the phase 4 movies myself.
