You don't think becoming a social pariah was punishment enough??!!

Doug Fisher

This is the first time I’ve watched a Cassie reaction and then went and watched the movie myself for the first (full) time. I generally don’t watch the reactions to the movies I haven’t seen — because I haven’t seen them — but in this case I figured, eh, I’ll never watch that. But then I did. Not the worst way to discover a movie.

Saw this with some friends on VHS tape after renting it from a video store back in the late 80s. Didn't feel like watching it again so I guess you can tell I didn't think much of it. However Patrick Dempsey did make another movie a year or two later called In the Mood which was set on the home front during WWII. That one I liked. Based on a true story which you might be interested in viewing in the future. Even Roger Ebert liked it.

I personally don’t think he paid a high enough price for all the things he did to his real friends or to Cindy. One grand gesture don’t make up for the truly awful stuff he did in my opinion. I think it was just too easy, not that he couldn’t have been redeemed in time.

Loverboy is one of my faves with Dempsey. Also, you should check out "Pump Up the Volume" such a great movie and underrated.

James Whalen

Though I was aware of this movie growing up, I didn't actually watch it until a few years ago. Even within the sub-genre of cheesy '80s teen romantic comedies, thought it was pretty mediocre, but it was fun watching you watch it.

The song Can't Buy Me Love is a Beatles classic. Which makes me ask if you've seen A Hard Day's Night and Help! ?

William Charles

I remember my childhood crush for Amanda Peterson started with the movie she was in previous to this one, The Explorers.

Brings back memories from my high school. I was the nerd Cassie. I had three close friends out of school with 1500 students. But I was okay with that. My senior prom date was 23 years old, I still hadn’t turned 18 yet. There wasn’t a single girl at my high school I cared to go with so I asked a friend outside of school if she wanted to go with me, she said sure. So yeah my high school experience was interesting.

Steven Ashford

It's been forever since I've seen this movie. Loved it :)

They made a remake. Love Don't Cost a Thing (2003), starring Nick Cannon. The acting was subpar.
