Can't Buy Me Love (1987) - Full Reaction

Hey everyone! Here is the full reaction to "Can't Buy Me Love". This was one of the movies I had pulled out of the pillow case and I couldn't be more happy about it! It was my kind of story filled with all the cheesiness haha. Hope you guys enjoy!

Also, tomorrow morning I'll be posting more information about our trivia game that'll be going down tomorrow night. It'll be a great time with chatting, competition and prizes. All patrons are welcome!

Can't Buy Me Love (1987) - Full Reaction

10/2/2022: Cassie I think download link is to the YT version, it is only 31 minutes. The Direct link is the 1:35 min video but download link says full version but just 31 min video was uploaded to google drive not full video file. No worries, just a little mix up as y'all move off vimeo. No rush, fix when y'all get a chance.

Christopher Smith

Hey Michelle! So sorry! It should be working now, try again. We are switching everything from Vimeo to YouTube and it's taking longer than expected.

Cassie

I'm so sad, I can't get this to work no matter what version I click on :( I rented the movie to watch along and everything

Just Michelle

Oh, one more thing I saw as I'm rewatching this. You asked if schools were this clique-ey. Some were. I went to a lot of schools, and some were worse. I was the nerd in school, and I also had a disability, which at the time I went to school (around the same time this movie came out) was an automatic ticket to loser town with literally no way out. I got jumped if I went down the same hall as the cool kids. Or if I sat in the wrong seat in class. If I sat in the wrong part of the bus, the places that were considered for the popular kids. I had kids chase me down halls if they saw me. The same thing happened to other "nerds" I knew. Trust me. Sometimes they were this bad. I mean, this movie is sort of an exaggerated version of it, and my experience was extreme, but not by much.

Raven Dark

I love this movie, and I'm so happy you reacted to it. I wanted to make a comment as soon as I watched the reaction, but I got distracted by something else and forgot. Hopefully, I'm not leaving the comment so long after that you can't remember the parts I'm referring to. I wanted to explain the face paint Patty and Barb were wearing in the kitchen scene at school. I think you asked what that was about. I'm 99.999999% sure that's a reference to a popular 80's girl's cartoon called Jem and the Holograms. It was really big at the time this came out, played every weekday along with He-Man, which I mentioned before. The show was about a female rock band, and had a big focus on glamor and style. I loved the show as a kid. Anyway, the girls (and the rival female band, the Misfits) all wore makeup like that. It's all so similar, there is no way it can be anything else other than a Jem callback. Patty (the one with the super curly perm), also had a hairstyle and way of dressing that is very similar to Jem and her band. I had her hair as a teen. Also, Jem has a catchphrase at the time. She and the members of the band would say everything was "Outrageous!", or "Totally outrageous!" If If you watch one of the beginning scenes, the one in Cindy's bedroom where it shows the lifesize image of Bobby that you commented on, you can see the word "Outrageous" written on her wall. It's written in a very Jem-esque style. If you end up ever watching one of the movies I recommended to you, Girls Just Want to Have Fun, it has a similar callback by a young girl in it. I'll be curious to see if you catch it. Oh, one more thing. She was so desperate over the outfit not only because it was her mom's, and her mom would have freaked, but because it was worth a thousand dollars. it would be worth a lot more today. Great reaction, Cassie.

Raven Dark

Fun movie. I enjoyed it. Thanks.

Grinznmore

Hadn't seen this movie in years, thanks! Since it had the song "Can't Buy Me Love" - Have even gave it a thought to react to The Beatles movie "A Hard Day's Night" - great movie

JarHead0351

Yes the S’mores snack mix is VERY dangerous! Ask me how I know…….

JC762

Oh yeah, I remember how big of a deal it was to have your own phone line. :)

Damon

Love The Beatles and love this movie. A fun film with a great message and The Beatles title track.

G

Amy Dolenz who appears as one of Cindy's more distant friends in the beginning and end of the movie, was gearing up for her own teen romcom about two years later, She's out of control. Kinda with the same theme, geek turns popular. Not as good as this one though.

Pickupthepieces76

Great reaction Cassie!! 1st off there are 2 Cant Buy Me Love songs one by The Beatles in this movie and 1 by The Supremes you were singing both versions so great job on that! This was a great movie back in the 80s Patrick was just getting started in his career and it was a great jumping point to his career and yes he still looks the same! Unfortunately Amanda Peterson died back in 2015 after she had a hysterectomy surgery and was prescribed Gabapentin and died from an overdose. Yes she was very beautiful and was a great actress but this is definitely your type of movie and there are some other ROMCOM movies from the 80s Im sure you would love! Great to see you get the ending you wanted loved your reaction!!

Mike Ortiz

That movie was definitely made for you. Nice to see you smile and laugh. And why are some of your fingers missing finger nail polish.?

Steven Ashford

That was a fun reaction - and I forgot all about the airplane graveyard. I forgot how good this movie actually was. And probably Seth Green's first role, or close to it. RIP Amanda Peterson

Jason Dolan

She saw it over Christmas I believe

Cole Jennett

The actor that played Kenneth was also in the movie The 'Burbs. It's sort of a modern(late 80's)take on Rear Window starring Tom Hanks and Princess Leia herself, Carrie Fisher.

Mark M

It's funny you saying that it was funny seeing Patrick Dempsey like that because I remember the first time I heard about him being a sex seymbol in Grey's Anatomy and be like: "Really? Patrick Dempsey is hot???" My only memories of him were from this, Loverboy and Mobsters.

Yann Laliberté

That was fun to watch. BTW, they called it “arcade” to play games.

Larry

I love this movie! I had such a crush on Amanda Peterson (Cindy), it's heartbreaking the direction her life took.

David Crabtree

Braveheart was the other one

Nismo

Just watched Terminator 2 with the face-licking scene and it got me thinking with a chuckle of what’s now a Cassie “Why did you lick my face?!” meme. I realized I can’t remember all three. The other was Jabba The Hut. What was the other one?

Donatello

RIP Amanda Peterson.

Gideon James

I used to be excellent at movie trivia, but now I'm brain dead. PS you must watch Spielberg's reenvisioned West Side Story. It would held if you knew the original. Both are different from the original Broadway show but I think Spielberg has returned more closely to it.

Christopher Carr

SOOOO want to see Cassie doing the African Anteater Ritual!!!

Art of Free Speech

Just finished watching as a little hors d'oeuvres to the Pop Quiz tonight. Nice reaction Cassie! I’m happy you enjoyed the movie. I forgot how young Patrick was in this movie! I thought the movie held up quite well. Sure, it was a little cringe in some parts. But overall, I think the movie stands the test of time. So Cassie, you’ve pulled a sled. Punched a slab of meat. Do I sense an African Anteater Ritual in the future? 😂 I’m not much for movie trivia. But I look forward to the Quiz tonight!

Go to your settings and it should have link to other services and discord will pop up and it'll ask normal things to sign up on discord and then it'll switch to pib server.

David Freese

It's Saturday night 7pm mountain time. 2:00 UTC Sunday morning.

David Freese

I'm braindead today but where's the link to discord?

Philip G.

Is the trivia contest tonight (Saturday the 5th) or tomorrow (Sunday the 6th)?

Cassie, my experience with Patrick Dempsey is just the opposite of yours. I was a senior in high school when this movie came out in 1987 and I went to see it with my best friend. I didn’t know who he was. Then years later, I started watching Greys and couldn’t believe he was the same guy from this movie. This was very much like my high school experience before the internet and cell phones. My parents got tired of my sister and me always on the phone, so we had our own line in our bedrooms, like Cindy. I wasn’t “popular” but I had a great group of friends. 🍿

Tara

Ha one of the 80 favorites

Johnny Salinas

Did you study!?

Coleton B.

Yes, this movie came at a much welcome time.

MikeLL

Not bad for a "pellow" case pull, eh? Well done, Cassie

Dave

Yeah, I’ve seen him drive a couple times at Laguna Seca. He’s a pretty good driver. And of course, when the drivers held autograph sessions in the paddock, the line to get his autograph was always one of the longest! I don’t think he drives much anymore though. And functions more as team owner. I believe to focus more on family.

Robert da Spruce

Another movie with a little brother that cracks jokes is in the1985 movie, Just One of the Guys. I admit to having stolen some of his material at one time or another. :)

Damon

80s movies hold a special place in my heart, for sure.

Damon

Young Seth Green sliding in with some solid jokes as the little brother.

Christopher Smith

I remember watching this movie when I was a young teen. He is also a race car driver and owner of Dempsey racing race team or something like that. Dude's talented.

Michael Lynch

Okay, I LOVE watching these with you, Cassie! I love RomComs, and teen RomComs, when done well, are even better. I really wish you'd do more of these. I would even love to rewatch some of them, like She's All That or whatever. It's very cool to see you in your element. One comment I will make about this film is, this whole thing could have been avoided if she'd just said to him "I'm not talking about breaking up, silly, I'm talking about kissing." If she'd just been honest about that, none of the bad stuff would have happened, but oh well.

Art of Free Speech

I actually met her when I was stationed at Fort Carson back in the 90s. She was already struggling with addiction, and it was obvious, but she was still sweet in her own way.

Art of Free Speech

Come on Cassie- this is too much in your wheelhouse. The fun of your channel is watching you react to movies that are way out of your element.

Rosario Cicero

Dang why did I get so nostalgic seeing that old Touchstone Pictures logo lol, haven't heard it in forever.

Nismo

That was awesome! And so quintessentially Cassie!

Shaun Ganyo

How much did you need this after Glory and 12 Years a Slave and Lone Survivor and whatever made your week a long one, Cassie?

Shaun Ganyo

This movie always reminds me of the quote “fame is a fickle thing”! Everyone can love you one minute and treat you like a disease the next. As far as 80’s rom-coms go, it is truly one of the greats! Glad you enjoyed it!

George Stapp

Thanks for the reaction! *Starts a slow clap* *Clap*

Mark M

Sad story with the main actress Amanda Peterson (Cindy). She passed away in 2015 at 44. You can look up the details. Love the movie and your reaction!

Philip Alan

Just gotta ask... Did you down load her reaction? Are you watching from outside the USA? Sometimes when video is streaming, the frame rate changes, and it can lag as much as 1frame per second, or, one second film time every 24 seconds 'real time'. Outside the USA things sometimes stream at different frame rates, too, all these things cause stacked lag which can cause all kinds of delay. So, there's no possible way anyone in the universe can watch this video with Cassie and be in perfect sync. BUT people have come up with browser plug in's and downloadable tools that allow you to manipulate the video here so that it syncs much better! Let me try to find it...

Jon Johns

Oh I'm watching this right now. I am sure you loved it. I had a huge crush on Darcy DeMoss when I was a kid because of this.

Yann Laliberté

This might be a funny question, are you reacting to this from the dvd or a stream, because when i sync my dvd with stream, you video falls a secund or 2 behind for every minute, can see the scenes are the same, but that aint running in same speed

Brian Berg

Nice! Been looking forward to this one! Glad you enjoyed the movie Cassie! It’s definitely right up your alley. P. S. The first song you sang in the intro was correct. Can’t Buy Me Love by the Beatles. The second song was You Can’t Hurry Love by the Supremes. Which is also a great song. But not the correct one! 😀

Robert da Spruce

I was in the Army in 80s , my fashion sense was camo and boots

Mike Lipke

Is it wrong I'm having anxiety over the POP Quiz?!🤔🤷😂

Todzilla

The fashion sense we had in high school back in the 80s. I'm both horrified and nostalgic.
