People been asking

People been asking for clarity on exactly how he shot 100ish people with Phantom Hand Simultaneously and they died.

This is how i saw it in my head.

I added a picture that helps describe it, because honestly, it seemed very difficult to describe in text.

The Phantom Hand can be fully loaded with one charge as long as all the objects are touching, so form a big pile and you can load a few hundred arrowheads with one Charge

Send the Phantom hand forward in a straight line, release the arrowheads one after another in sequence, mentally targeting a different soldier's eye with each shot, and set the phantom hand's trajectory at an oblique angle that makes the first shots hit at nearly the same time as the last shots.

The reason they did so much damage is one ring held the arrowheads in place once they struck, while the other pulled the target along the path of the arrowhead, essentially driving the blade all the way through the brain by flipping the inertial relationship between projectile and target.

in short, a tiny, fraction-of-an-ounce arrowhead might not have the inertia to drive itself through the skull, but a human male had plenty of mass to drive themselves onto a stationary blade.

Honestly i felt it was too cumbersome and dry to bog down a badass ending with, but this is how it played out.

This is brilliant.

Hell 5pawn

I thought the scene scanned pretty well, and I definitely think it would have been worse if you stopped to explain.

Milan Seyed Mahmoud

the whole thing is that Will is smart but utterly inexperienced. Giving him some deus-ex “ah ive seen smthn specifically fitting for this situation” would be lame

Quazzy

You could also have will throw them in the opposite direction. Giving more time for the projectiles to fly.

Gam

Couldn't visualise it the first time I read the chapter to be honest

Alan Ben Sen Clem

Fair enough. Guess I just thought they'd be closer 🫡

Hunter Joseph

The ability should not be balanced compared to the rest of his build. We have see no ability with this amount of capacity from the start! The hand has dimensional storage, magic disruption, can throw 100+ item in a row, and with summon upgrade item can serve as free limitless telekinesis. As for thr comparison with the Wyrd family Thorn, these are WHOLE build probably with multiple upgrade (It is mentioned that it does not normally work on indirect damage) from rare and high tower level sacrifices, and with a full soft set of item to support specifically the build.

Weaver

I picture the furthest distance travelled at about 600 yards, and the shortest about 120, for that perfect amount of distance to turn 90 degrees. the spacing of the arrowheads as they're released is less important. you could release thirty over the distance of about a couple feet. I don't understand why they need to be spread out to give the arrowheads space to turn? the arrowheads are leaving the phantom hand over 100 yards away from the target, regardless of how close they are to each other.

Macronomicon

So 8 degrees of correction per 10 yards traveled. Those soldiers musta been Hella spaced out in a straight line for most of these projectiles to turn close to 90 degrees

Hunter Joseph

Super cool! Works well for me.

RageBone

"Is this what a Lord is? Cheap tricks repeated ad infinitum?" Seems so. Until you concoct a new cheap trick, at least.

The Walrus Transcendent

Great use of skills

TK Jack

I always have the 8% correction ring in my mind he would have 16 % correction he would literally become a nuker

Achis74

I mean thats is logical

Achis74

When you make this a book, you should include a follow up scene of maybe Loth explaining the tactic to Jason or some other member of the party. Because I also didn’t know what happened.

And the Thorns build wasn't absolutely insanely ridiculous? Marc Ward's build wasn't even complete and he was basically unkillable. His father's complete build meant he could kill Lord-level Climbers with a twitch of his finger. These abilities were meant to be exploited. Spending a charge to load and shoot 100 arrows is nothing compared to what more ranged focused builds have already been demonstrated to do. The Tower seems to basically just be balancing energy expenditures in its exploitation avoidance, and the energy cost of the arrows here are pretty low, relatively speaking.

Jeff Wells

I do think that his hand being capable of so much is a bit wild, but it's currently offset by how his other abilities are mostly late game utility, sourdough is good for later, he can only have one active ability on the hand at a time, the eye is long distance vision, and his passive lets him move well. He effectively has a half homura type kit with his inventory but requires him scavenging stuff which only is happening bc the high tiers aren't there and it's just mostly lv 15s vs his lv 30 ass

EDMANGO

Definitely being smart and keeping a cool head. He put together a soft set from scavenged gear on the fly and then leveraged it effectively.

Man this reminds me of my own story on RR where I got complaints because I didn't explain something mid-fight, waiting until afterwards (it took like 500 words) and I had people calling it a plot hole 💀 when they asked why I didn't explain it at the time I went "uhh cause that's boring?" Like, brah, enjoy the story 😭

Stygon

For me, it's more the fact that he can shoot a 100+ projectile at once with the hand that I find a bit OP. His hand ability seems really so much above and beyond any other ability we have seen especially with no cost to much of its initial abilities. Still loving the story though.

Weaver

y'all know i can't do that.

Macronomicon

I love readers. Kill a swamp vampire and it spawns a pair of magic boots - totally reasonable. Use geometry to solve a problem - what's this unrealistic bullshit?

Doctor Zero

Also known as "time on target"

Scott

Personally, I thought the scene read very well. Having the descriptions of the items and then what they do, followed by the results was enough. I felt like it added to William being larger than life

Zach Schmidt

only to store things. Pulling them out again is free.

Macronomicon

It would definitely affect the scene if over described, but it's also good to have a solid explanation behind the scenes. If it bothers you, maybe down the line he's asked how he manages it and then William can explain it in a bit more depth.

Ryan Nguyen

Charge to store, free to release.

Ryan Nguyen

William oh's superpower isn't all of his skills or his phantom hand, it's being capable of doing math like this on the fly

EDMANGO

Great explanation. It sounds a bit like how a paladin self propelled artillery gets it's shots to hit around the same time. It changes the angle of the gun for each shot so they have different trajectories

Sam

You can have it, if you can drink it without moving it

Sam

I thought it took a charge to release projectiles from the hand?

Edward Jeffs

No, lol.

Macronomicon

Um actually I think you forgot to say um

Ken Horne

*puts on nerd glasses* actually ☝️I’m more interested in seeing the calculations to prove this even is remotely feasible in the first place 🤓

Emmanuel Martinez

This description helps a lot but maybe you can include it as like memory sequence of a trick shot that Will remembers seeing an archer do at maybe a fair or something, or even him making a bet with someone about hitting multiple beer glasses with one throw? That way there is a basis of occurrence how Will knows how to do the attack. He might have done something similar beforehand that I'm just forgetting. Just an idea.

RepossessedSoul

Another thing to consider is shooting the arrow heads up while "targeting" their eye. It would increase the travel time and the number of degrees of correction seems like it could have allowed for such a strategy to work.

DrFumbles

Makes sense, thanks! Now, did that healing potion he tossed count as a projectile too?

JTP

Cool explanation

Ethan Barrow

Worked for me. it was cool
