2024-11-19 10:06:10 +0000 UTCThis is probably the episode that felt like it changed things up the most for me, when I first marathoned the first 2 boxsets. This would be well over 10 years ago now. I'd caught the ending of a series 3 episode on TV and thought, oh that looks like fun. So brought the dvd's to back to back the heck out of them. This episode took things next level, so emotive and creepy. Particularly that moment when Jane catches sight of RJ's calling card through the office window. Such a call back to the pilot episode, when Jane is describing the correct crime scene configuration for Red John murders. The symbol is the first thing you see, and then you know, and then you feel dread. Having the music being provided by something at the crime scene worked very well too. The victim being someone we had gotten to know as well, albeit briefly in previous episodes this series. But Hicks had come to an understanding and mutual respect with Rigsby in a previous episode. Maybe we liked him a little better because of it. And now he's lying there butchered, staring back at us. I felt a coldness shoot up my spine and flush over me. Brilliantly chinning!
