Weekly Update

How are you doing, my beautiful people?
I am not bad.

First, the good news: I got my results on the x-ray I told you about last week, and it's clean. There isn't anything wrong with my heart or my lungs. It is definitely a musculoskeletal injury.

I'm working with a physical therapist at the moment. She's not cheap, but I need to do what I need to do. After a torturous massage, she gave me a bunch of exercises, and it is doing the trick. The shoulder isn't 100% back yet, but it is mending.

Production-wise, it slowed me down a little, obviously, but not too much. I delivered the second page to Tracy early on Friday, so I already started work on the next one. In fact, I drew the backgrounds for both remaining pages of this issue. So, this week should go by quickly. And on Saturday, I also spent a few hours designing a secondary character that should show up in "Stella Starlight" pretty much all the time: a little fairy that will follow her around. I call her "Blossom" at the moment. I'm not very original when it comes to naming characters :P I have yet to figure out any of the colors on the characters for that project other than the furball I showed last time, who is called "Blue," so his coloring scheme is pretty much a given :P

This Week

My main goal is to complete Tracy's issue this week, and if possible, I'd like to finish the week with a pinup as a little thank you for your patience with me this month. Despite the continual work, I didn't have a lot to show for lately, and I feel terrible about it, especially since I'm about to leave for my summer vacation. So that's my hope and my goal for this week: two pages and a pinup.

I say "hope" because I woke up with another mysterious pain this morning (I'm getting old :P). I'm not worried. It's a pressure point in my right wrist. It shows up from time to time when I use the computer mouse too much (or badly). The thing is... I didn't use it that much yesterday. I took the day off and spent most of the day watching movies. So, I'm not entirely sure why my wrist is acting up.... But I do have an idea.

I usually wake up several times a night, usually to take a piss, or because the night is too hot (we are going through heat waves after heat wave this summer). I didn't last night. I pretty much slept the whole night in one go, a welcomed change if I'm honest. But often, when I wake up, I realize that my right wrist is resting on my side table instead of the soft bed. I didn't notice my position when I woke up this morning, but if it spent the whole night on the table, that would explain the pressure point.

There is nothing I can do about it. Usually, it shows up at the end of the day. I stop using the computer, and I'm fine the next day. I'll try working on it and see how it goes, but I might have to take today off. I'll know in an hour or so.

So that's it for now.
See you all soon!

I talked to my therapist about it. She pretty much came to the same conclusion as I did. In this particular case, it's a contact thing, not muscle fatigue or nerve pinch. It's due to my wrist resting too long on a hard surface. That said, I did buy a Gyro ball today. She also told me that I can only gain by exercising my wrist a little. It won't help with this particular problem but will help prevent others.

I used to have issues with my hands because of how much I type and mouse. Rest doesn't do anything. But resistance training does, rhythmically and consistently activating the nerves and muscles. Basically weight lifting for your hands. I suggest having a look at a Powerball/Gyro ball. Those things are amazing workouts for your hands and fore-arms.
