Ruins of Missouri

More photo adventures. For my birthday earlier this month, I took a little road trip to western Missouri to explore some curious old places.  Sharing here in case any of you find this sort of thing interesting too!

Western Missouri Photo Album -
The real highlight of the trip was a place called the Odd Fellows Home in Liberty, a former hospital and institution made up of four enormous brick buildings and numerous out-buildings.  The main edifice has been renovated and turned into a winery and hotel, but the rest stands abandoned and half subdued by the aggressive Missouri vegetation. For Abandoned Places addicts, it's a true wonderland.
I could say much the same of St. Joseph, Missouri - another stop on my trip. A booming industry town at the turn of the last century, it has grown lost and obsolete in this era of separate technologies and economics. It's a skeleton of its former self now, speckled with shady, overgrown avenues and abandoned mansions - beautiful, sad and lush.

Ozark Iron Furnace Photo Album -
These photos are from earlier this spring. My friend Patrick and I stumbled on the remains of a 19th century iron furnace and some other nearby ruins.  I only just got around to downloading the images off my phone and processing them.

Hehe, well, that'd be an interesting turn of events. I don't think so, though, unless he was traveling to some remote part of Missouri to drop messages.

Very very cool! I love photographing old architecture, especially textile mills and factories. Thanks for sharing!

Great stuff! The ivy-overgrown house in the sepia print lower right reminds me of the house featured in 'A Beautiful Mind'..., the place where in his delusions Russell Crowe was 'dropping' intelligence data. Any chance it IS the same house?

St. Joseph's is awesome; so many in a relatively small area!
