More photo adventures. For my birthday earlier this month, I took a little road trip to western Missouri to explore some curious old places. Sharing here in case any of you find this sort of thing interesting too!
Western Missouri Photo Album -
The real highlight of the trip was a place called the Odd Fellows Home in Liberty, a former hospital and institution made up of four enormous brick buildings and numerous out-buildings. The main edifice has been renovated and turned into a winery and hotel, but the rest stands abandoned and half subdued by the aggressive Missouri vegetation. For Abandoned Places addicts, it's a true wonderland.
I could say much the same of St. Joseph, Missouri - another stop on my trip. A booming industry town at the turn of the last century, it has grown lost and obsolete in this era of separate technologies and economics. It's a skeleton of its former self now, speckled with shady, overgrown avenues and abandoned mansions - beautiful, sad and lush.
Ozark Iron Furnace Photo Album -
These photos are from earlier this spring. My friend Patrick and I stumbled on the remains of a 19th century iron furnace and some other nearby ruins. I only just got around to downloading the images off my phone and processing them.
