Hey, man, I never said you couldn't criticize him, I'm just pointing out a fact. We don't really ever get to see Avizandum's point of view and the information is coming from a biased source. You can absolutely criticize him, I'm just saying that I feel like Rex's words should be taken with a grain of salt because he clearly has some bitter feelings towards him.

Well I feel quite vindicated, thank you! I'm glad I'm not the only one getting jilted lover vibes

Your comment reminded me of a stream I watched a while back, and it took me some time to find it but... https://youtu.be/dMs0l40AqTc?t=4640

One thing about Karim is he isn't an isolated person. He represents a side of sunfire elves that Jinai knows exists and is trying to help change. Also each arch dragon we see does represent the personality the elves of their element tries. So Rex is typical among earth elves in being greedy and killing things. That said I do think rex is interesting and deeper than I expected with his condolences to Zym and stuff. Part of the conflict between the 2 is who got to be dragon king. Not the entire conflict though I don't think.

In my opinion Karim is the worse on the shkw. He has very conservative views for how sunfire elf culture should be. I mean that in relation to real world stuff, i mean he wants to conserve the values of his culture even when they're not good values or traditions. It should be as it was in the past and never changing. I also think the fact that it is tradition to have a duel to the death to settle major political disputes explain why the sunfire elves had no issue with one of them burning someone who disrupted his mourning ritual.

The opinion is that he was provoking humans intentionally. The fact is he was patrolling the boarders and his constant presence was a level of fear that did amp up the tension between humans and xadia. That might not have been Avizandum's goal but keeping a nuke pointed at an enemy country is going to escalate the situation. Rex might be wrong in assuming the guy's motives in as negative a way as possible but it's not undo criticism.

Ah! I was hoping you'd comment on Sokka's favorite treasure showing up in this episode lol That's okay because your reaction was so good. I genuinely love Amaya and Janai, and really wish we could have spent a bit more time with them this season, though I feel their story has been particularly engaging even amidst the overarching story line

I don't get why people keep defending Zym's dad just because he's Zym's dad. That dragon was a total douchebag and it's okay to say that. Just because he's Zym's dad doesn't mean he's flawless. Avizandum is as much to blame for the war as Viren and Harrow are

"Oh he's a real a-hole! No wonder Zym's dad didn't like him." Avizandum was arguably an even worse a-hole, though xD He literally attacked humans for sport

So, I'm gonna be real with you all... the first time I watched this I genuinely thought there was a love triangle between Rex and Zubeia over Avizandum, not Rex and Avizandum over Zubeia.
Also that "And it'll get him killed one day but he'll love that too!" Was my favorite line in the entire episode. The VA does a great job of making Rex sound so angry but also so worried, like he wishes he didn’t care but can't stop himself. It's good, man

I think it's really important to note that information came from a biased source. Sure, Rex SAYS that's what he was doing, but he's also super bitter about it all, so I'd take anything he says with a flake of salt.

As an ace I’m concerned about the direction this cake talk is taking. 😅

If you have two cakes so you can have your cake and eat it too, you've solved one problem with another. Now you have to decide which cake to eat.

So...are we going to discuss the fact that Avizandum provoked human armies at the border....?

Karim is definitely another very frustrating character lol
But at least he's just an annoyance and a schemer instead of an actual threat who wants to HURT his sister... right?

You deing at the saffic scene (The two cakes part)... My thought at the moment: Let's just say Amaya ate her ,,Cupcake" good. 😊😉 (And yes Amaya is Vi and Janai is Cait)

Lots of interesting things happening from this episode! We had yet another ATLA reference appear when Rex was talking about his treasure. Last reference for a bit iirc. You can really start to see Karim’s true colors, a real family man let me tell you lol. A small lore drop about our lovely Orphan Queen character, she was revealed back in 2019 and is supposed to be the main character of a movie the creators want to do. Her story is intertwined within arc 2, and little bits and pieces come up on occasion, so keep an eye out!
Claudia used the sleep more likely for efficiency than anything else. She could have fought everyone, including Rex, but how would that have turned out for her? She is just trying to secure the next piece she needs to find Aaravos. Gosh Claudia is so interesting as a character, you’ll see it soon but she has complex feelings about things and a motive that one could say mirrors Viren.
I think the frustrating aspect of the season is what many people don’t like about the season. It tackles some really intense issues rather than just being a fun adventure story this time around.
One last thing…

We've actually seen the girl before! For anyone who may have forgotten, Zubeia provided a bunch of lore earlier this season - including a tidbit about a human girl who uncovered Aaravos' betrayal and worked with Xadia to imprison him. We only ever saw a little of her, but this episode sheds more light and implies that this mystery girl is Ezran's ancestor!
As a sidenote, it's not required reading, but TDP did release a series of short stories called "Reflections" - and I'd recommend Crackledrake for anyone who wants more sapphic goodness between uploads! It's an adorable, early Janaya story that takes place in the time skip. If you feel like reading more of the stories and don't want potential spoilers for S5 onwards, stick to Vol. 1 <3
