We're back! + Lots of author updates
Added 2023-09-18 10:14:24 +0000 UTCHi! Hello! It's been a minute.
In any case, wanted to post that as of today, my month off is done, and we're back to posting. I'm happy to report that I am entirely and completely recovered and not in even a lick of pain anymore.
Honestly, I expected to return to posting a good bit sooner than today, but it's been a shockingly busy couple of weeks! That's mainly due to two things.
One, work is pretty hellish right now. I wasn't penalized or anything for missing two weeks, but when I got back, they told me that one of the projects I was working on absolutely has to be finished this week, and one of the other big projects needs me to help out more because the people on it are a bit overworked. (Yay consequences of layoffs!) The end result is that I am absolutely inundated with work right now to the extent that I am often very tired.
On a much more positive (if somewhat scarier) note, the other thing that has kept me busy is that I've finally taken the most major step possible towards making myself able to be a full-time writer. I'm currently in an area with rents that are way too high for me to live off of writing, so for the past few months I've been looking at tiny one-bedroom condos in much cheaper neighborhoods in much cheaper states, and long story short, I bought a home! (Or not technically until next month, but it seems to be a pretty done deal.)
It has been a surprisingly large amount of work traveling back and forth between states, talking to inspectors, appraisers, mortgage agents, insurance people, etc, and pretty much all of my non-work energy has been going into that lately. On the major plus side, though, the whole reason I did it is because my monthly mortgage is going to be about 40% of what I currently pay in rent, which gets me much much closer to having it be viable for me to quit my job and pursue writing full-time. In fact, running the numbers, I'm thinking I'll be able to make the switch some time around next August (later than I'd like, but also early in the grand scheme of things I guess.)
While I'm ultimately really excited, I'm also expecting these upcoming two months to be really rough for me. Work is going to be increasingly demanding, and home-wise, I still need to deal with moving states, finding someone to take over my current apartment's lease, and all the good stuff that comes with that. (As we speak, I'm supposed to be writing something about my inspection report, ew.) Theoretically, I am also supposed to find time to say goodbye to friends in the area.
In terms of book stuff, I'm going to try really hard to not have all this impact chapter releases for book three. We're really close to the end, and I'd like to get us there without any more delays. Mostly, this is just a heads up to bear with me, as I might be a bit of a shitshow until I'm moved and settled.
As an entire separate aside, the audiobook company emailed me saying that my first audiobook is apparently on sale right now. If you like audiobooks and sales, it can be found here.
In any case, thanks everyone for your well wishes during my surgical recovery and your patience for the new chapters! I'll be posting the next one a few minutes after I post this one, and then I'll be immediately napping to catch my morning meeting in a few hours.
Happy reading!
