Pain, Delays, and Other Updates

Hi all!

If you haven't already, see my previous post, as this will make no sense otherwise.

Recovery has been considerably slower than expected. The good news is that I'm in the process of getting approval for a two week leave from work. Bad news is that I have a total sum of zero productive energy right now. I've opened up the big doc I write in a few times and tried to type out a few words, and I've had to put it away pretty quickly each time.

On the bright side, I'm in less pain than I was a few days ago, and I've been able to downgrade from the heavier-duty painkillers to the normal ones. It also hurts a lot less to stand up and walk around. I have a meeting with my doc tomorrow and will see what he thinks about recovery timelines, but it's looking like this is definitely going to slow me down in terms of chapter releases.

Life happens and all that, but I have no desire to be making anyone pay if I'm not getting content out! I'm going to give the Royal Road folks a day to join the Patreon if they want to, and then tomorrow I'm going to give everyone a free month.

I don't expect me to be gone for a whole month and will start posting again as soon as I'm able to. And in a weird way, this is probably for the best, as if I recover faster than expected, I can use the extra time on book 3 edits or more detailed outlining on book 4.

Feels kind of sucky that this is happening right now -- in the future, I will not plan any surgeries right around big climactic moments in the story 🙃 -- but thank you all for understanding and hope to be posting again soon!
