When drawing this page out, the first panel was reminding me of an image from deep in my memory. I was certain it was a "damsel" in a Frazetta painting, but after hours of research I found the image I was thinking of. Turns out is was a Boris Vallejo (Frazetta's gay doppleganger) painting, and it wasn't a damsel, it was a nude man.
The painting in question was from an illustration done for the story "Arena" by Fredrick Brown, when Starlog magazine printed it in 1977. The story is what the Star Trek episode of the same name is based on. I remembered it so well because I did a book report on it in 7th grade english! Plus, I am pretty certain that the man in the paintings provided my young imagination with some much needed spank-bank.

As you can see, this isn't Kirk vs. the Gorn. I'll have to go back and read it again. It's only been 39 years.
