They initially planned a BE for the whole series like this: WKX didn't survive and left ZZS lived alone in Mount Changming. You can see the surprised and mixed expression of ZZS when he first saw white-haired WKX in EP37, because it had been designed to be a hallucination of WKX. However, Youku finally decided to have a HE instead, so the footage material was re-edited as the current one. Even the two leading actors didn't know the true ending until it was released out.

Glad the last episode made you happy. Just for some explanation, the father of the young boy we see practicing on the mountain is Deng Kuan, he was the head disciple of the Yue Yang sect, the one that was forced to give testimony against Gao Chong. Him and Gao Xiaolian were in love and Gu Xiang told Wen Kexing about the surprise everyone felt when Gao Chong annonuced that his daughter, Xiaolian would be engaged to Chengling. Chengling and Xiaolian are not married at the end of episode 36. Xiaolian married the man she loved, Deng Kuan, and the boy is their son. The girl that calls Chengling father in episode 36 is a girl he adopted. I am pretty sure, since Deng Kuan is visiting Wen Kexing and Zhou Zishu on the mountain with his son, Chengling is in contact with them.Once you watch AvenueX second lip reading video you will find out that all of Chengling's lines he says at the end of episode 36 were changed during dubbing and some were even cut. So any hint of he real ending was removed. And fyi, besides Ye Baiyi saying, that nobody would die on his watch, another hint of them surviving is, that Wen Kexing is lighting two lanterns when the enter the armory. So, two people living. ;) I can't wait for you to watch more WOH content. I don't know if you have a Youku Youtube subscription, but I am not sure if you can watch the concert without it.
