the delena kiss was Elena realizing life isn't granted. Thats the purpose of the scene, she's realizing wasting time starting over when she's already feeling again. She's realizing Damon or Elena could die any day and she doesn't wanna chance it anymore by taking it slow. The timing is weird but the meaning is important. I would've put that scene in the end or a scene or two after liz.

I dont ship them personally but I can see why the writers went this route because they truly have been each others rock from what we have seen to now. Stefan has been his most self to care IMO and care as been her most self to him. He never judges her, he always lets her rant to him, hes always the one to reinsure her and hes always the one by her side, theres so much more that I can say that shows care and stefan being each others team and ride n dies.
