The dude in the picture that Nick holds up is Sam from Cheers. He also ran the bar. There was a big Cheers reference in the episode where Dr Sam's friend (Diane) is introduced and tells Jess she loves him etc. As they embrace in the bar "Moon River" plays and Cece says they don't have the song on the jukebox. In Cheers whenever Sam (and his love interest) Diane have a romantic moment, Moon River plays. I'm pretty sure that New Girls Diane is wearing the same kind of coat as Cheers Diane wears in the pilot.
