Watching this reaction honestly makes me glad I grew up with the german dub (and later japanese) instead of the english. I watched the english dub of many ghibli movies for the first time while watching reactions and time and again it seems determined to snuff out any hint of subtlety it can possibly find. It seems to be a general thing but this movie has the worst dub of all the ghiblis I've seen in English yet. Even the score seemed to be different in parts, so I looked it up and it's true. Several scenes appare the were "too quiet" (even though that was very purposeful) so they let Joe Hisashi extend his score and put some very orchestra-heavy bits into scenes that were very somber and quiet before. That doesn't diminish the quality of the music of course but it still makes me a bit sad. This is such a beautiful movie and it was perfect as it was originally. Anyway, I'll stop whining now, sorry.
