What's coming up // May 2025

It's May! It already feels like summer here, and I'm super excited to dive into another fun and inspiring month with you. Here's what you can expect from me this month:

 This month's tutorial is going to be on how to steal a style! I don't know if that's going to be the final title yet, since there's a lot more nuance to the topic 😅 But basically it will be about how you can analyze and break down someone's art style in order to extract elements that you can use in your own art! It will also include exercise suggestions and a demo. Right now I'm just brainstorming the initial idea, so if you have any suggestions on what you'd like me to include, leave a comment and let me know!

I spent a lot of time on landscapes last month, so this month I'll be shifting my focus back to characters. I want to come up with some new character-based painting ideas, and I also want to add some color to some of my sketchbook sketches. I saw some really great rendering techniques recently that I want to test out on my existing artwork, so I'll be trying that out soon!

I'll be posting WIP versions of all my drawings, from first sketch to final piece. I'll also be recording my process, so you can expect a process video from me! I'll be sure to include information about how I created the drawing, from tools to creative struggles.

This month, we are studying underwater poses together! Perfect for this refreshing and summery month, and also ideal for those of you who are participating in MerMay!

You'll get reference images, inspiration, tips, and resources to help you on your way. Check out the challenge here! And if you're participating, don't forget to post your progress in the Discord server!

I'll be participating in the challenge as well, and recording my process so you can watch how I created it. I'll also be making a 20-25 minute video in which I dicuss my process, take a look at the art that you created, and discuss common mistakes. That way, you'll be prepared if you want to draw underwater poses in the future!
