Spring is just around the corner 🌱 I can't believe winter is almost behind us! Here's an overview of everything I created this month in case there's anything you might have missed ✨
This month's tutorial was on 6 simple tricks for stylizing your studies! In this video, I ran you through different ways that you can make your studies more interesting and eye-catching. It was really fun to do a run-through of various helpful techniques - I definitely want to make more videos like this in the future! You can watch the full video here.
Since it's my latest tutorial, it will be available on the $5 spark tier for another month! After that, it goes to the backlog, along with 50 other tutorials. Join the spark tier if you want to grab it for $5! And if you want to access the massive backlog of over 50 tutorials, just upgrade to the $10 flame tier 🔥
This month's challenge was on creating statue studies! I love this topic because it gives you the chance to focus purely on volumes, and not get distracted by colors. I played around with textured brushes and smudge tools for these, and I had a lot of fun! Here's what I created:

For next month's challenge, we'll be painting dense foliage 🍃 It feels like the perfect time of year to be painting green, fresh leaves! If you're not yet a flame member, be sure to upgrade your tier to access the challenge - all information will be posted on the 1st!
As always, flame members also got access to the process video and a resource video with tips and advice. This is a 20 minute long video in which I discuss my process, common mistakes, and run through the artwork that you guys posted in the discord! If you want to draw studies like this in the future, you might find it helpful. Watch it here!
I want to create more animal-themed paintings this year, so I practiced drawing my two favorite animals: Obi and Chewie, my cats! This one started as a page in my sketchbook, which I scanned in and rendered in Photoshop. I truly never tire of drawing these guys, they're just too cute 😭
I also created a new DTIYS challenge! It's been a while since we did one just for patrons, so I felt it was time. Check out the post here - and if you haven't participated yet, join us! I'd love to see your version of this character!
This month, I shared the full process of my DTIYS challenge artwork - I figured this would be helpful for those of you who want to draw this character and are curious about how I created it. It's also a good example of how I slowly introduce color from a greyscale sketch! Watch the full process here.
This month's session featured discussions about organizing your portfolio, how to get the most out of your drawing sessions if you don't have a lot of time for them, and how to come up with ideas! We also got some great art course suggestions in the chat. Watch the full session here!
There's been a lot of beautiful art posted in the server this month - from the challenge artworks to the DTIYS entries! Your talent truly blows me away and I love that you took the time to share it in the server.
Friendly reminder: all paying members have access to the discord server! If you’re not sure how to join the discord, just follow the steps outlined here.
Thanks for your support this month! This was my last month working from my studio space that I've been working in for 8 years - this weekend I'll be moving to a new studio space, so you can expect to see some glimpses of it in my March videos! As soon as I'm settled in, you can expect a little studio tour from me 🖤
Thank you so much for supporting me in creating this month's content and art! I'll be sending out links to this month's google drive folder today! Keep an eye on your inbox.
