What's coming up // November 2024

It's the last month of this fall season! I just got back from Lightbox Expo in LA and am battling my jetlag, but I'm really looking forward to this month. It's a calm month without too much travel or commitments, which means I can really focus on some art ideas that I've been putting off. This is what you can expect from me this month here on Patreon!

This month's tutorial is going to be on Painting complex detail, like foliage, feathers, or hair! I'll be running you through shortcuts and efficient techniques you can use to give the impression of dense, complex detail without having to painstakingly draw each detail for hours. I've been writing down some notes and brainstorming my ideas. You can expect to see it in the coming week!

This is a much calmer month for me than previous months, so I have some time to get back to some art ideas that I've been putting on the backburner. I want to dive back into creating some original paintings, and I also want to try out gouache again. I have plans to make more traditional art at some point this year, so I want to dabble in it again to see how it feels!

I'll be posting WIP versions of all my drawings, from first sketch to final piece. I'll also be recording my process, so you can expect a process video from me! I'll be sure to include information about how I created the drawing, from tools to creative struggles.

This month, we are drawing the same head from different angles. This is a great way to practice construction and envisioning a head in a 3D space! This one is definitely challenging (pun intended), but there are ways to simplify your style in order to get it right. I found some excellent examples that I've included in the inspiration folder!

You'll get reference images, inspiration, tips, and resources to help you on your way. Check out the challenge here! And if you're participating, don't forget to post your progress in the Discord server!

I'll be participating in the challenge as well, and recording my process so you can watch how I created it. I'll also be making a 20-25 minute video in which I dicuss my process, take a look at the art that you created, and discuss common mistakes. That way, you'll be prepared if you want to draw a head turnaround in the future!
