PROCESS VIDEO // mushrooms - part 3

Some facts:

The video is sped up 200% - that’s twice as fast as the original speed.

The entire piece took me about 6 hours to paint, which was split up into shorter painting sessions.

MY PROCESS

This is the third and final installment of this process video! I usually don’t have that much to say about this phase, because it’s really just a whole lot of cleanup. I already set up the painting so that all the colors and elements are already on the canvas and I’m just going in and polishing it up so it feels finished. Using a textured brush is ideal because it prevents me from smoothing everything out too much.

I flip the canvas around 8:24 minutes in. This is something I do from time to time, especially when finalizing, because my paintings tend to tilt heavily in one direction and this is a way of balancing things out a little more. Usually when I do some of my rendering on the flipped version, it will start to look better in both orientations. I do try to avoid falling into a loop of correcting everything that feels off, because then it’ll look bad when I flip it back, and it becomes an endless cycle. So I use this technique somewhat sparingly.

I think if you click front he first moments of the video to the last, you’ll see that the main difference is that everything just feels more polished and the details finer and more elegant. From a distance it’s pretty much the same but for those who want to zoom in and savor the details, it’s just a lot cleaner.
