EARLY ACCESS // clutter

It’s been a while since I painted an interior scene! This is the finished version of the WIP I posted last month. I still feel like it’s missing something though! Like a pet or some storytelling element. What do you think? Any ideas on what I should add?

I'm so sorry to hear that!

Loish

Wow it's finished ! It loosk so good. I'm sad, since i missed all my patreon posts this year due to my phone acting up

Divi (Lovewin)

i was aiming for a bit of a hopeless vibe, i'm glad that it came across!

Loish

Maybe just closing her eyes...It will make the scene look like someone who's struggling to keep things neat. I've recently watched the excellent TED talk "How to do laundry when you're depressed" (KC Davis) and it reminds me of it

Isis Marques

Definitely a cat laying on the clothes super comfy so it’s just making this task that much more difficult lol. I love the relatability of this post and the use of colors. The lightest white color sets the scene so well. I love all the fun details.

Trinly

The last thing you describe Christian also came to my mind, just thought maybe she's looking for black clothes for a funeral, but then all the colors of the clothes would have to be different... Could be an interesting perspective though, maybe the clothes could bring some tension like, happy color clothes, no black at all, which would clash with the expression and mood she's in... Anyway, just sharing what came to my mind. Love the composition Loish! <3

Julia Jager

If I were to add to the storyline... maybe a dog with a sock in his mouth that kind of shows how he made a mess of everything? I personally have come home to a complete disaster from my pups and have experienced this girl's same emotions. Lol

Melanie Jacobs

Me too. ^^ It makes the painting very relatable.

Anska

thanks keith!

Loish

oh I love that metaphor!

Loish

yes I did! I'll put together a process video for it!

Loish

that storyline is indeed what I'm going for! I myself have been that person many times haha

Loish

She currently makes me think of someone, who was looking for that one favourite item and after pulling out everything from its shelves, still couldn't find it. I am not sure if that was intended. Personally I would like to see the decal on her shirt be a little less simplified. It's such a comparatively big round space, that it always distracts my eyes away from looking at her face.

Anska

Not just you, I was also wondering if one door was a reflection for a moment.

Anska

As far as storytelling…. It’d be cool to see like, her significant other, in the open doorway just looking at her as she stands in the clutter, kind of there to feel her pain from afar

Marques Martinez

I don't think there is any thing missing, but if you want to push the story further, what do think about something that clues us into why the room is cluttered?

Lauri Panopoulos Lauridesign.com

Thought I was seeing myself… lol. I love how the emotion of the artwork is not lost on all the details.

Charry

love the feelng on this. This is everybody at some point. Overwelmed. Paralized. Stuck. Really like the softer colours on the leg/arm that's far from us, and the combination of warm and cold colorurs.

Nyaar

Why did you draw my life?! 🤣 maybe you could redraw one of her shoes off like she’s looking for it and hide it somewhere.

Mandy Kool

I thought a lil cat, but I love it as it is. It looks like my ADHD. She's clearly got a lot on her mind, I don't think it needs anything else. Powerful <3

Adelle Gough

I have been called out in this art XD Lovely work Loish!

Alexandria Kala Akins

Two closets and it still looks like this. The atmosphere is good, but, strangely, my eye wants to put a mirror between the two doors. Probably just me.

HardWearJunkie

Well, you haven't posted a real-time video in a while. I wish you recorded this action🙏🥰

ellawy3

Love this! I can relate to this one too much. As much as I try to keep things organized, laundry is the bane of my existence, lol! It’d be interesting to see some sort of decal at the center of her shirt and maybe a bird or iguana (a bit of green might look nice here) on her shoulder, maybe another somewhere else? For me, when things get out of hand and super messy like that, I end up feeling trapped or "caged" by the clutter until I muster up the energy to organize it.

Corivana

A sparrow or a kitty would add something to the over all element, true but it’s a fun piece either way, real life done beautifully by you.

Alex The Sketchy Ant

Yes, agree a cat or dog would be great that look guilty up at her 😂💜

Sophie Meyer

I think a judgmental cat would work in this scene.

Keith Ward

I love this one

Zreyas

So cute… I’d have a dog, looking very guilty… with a shoe or other item in his mouth… maybe hiding behind the door.

Lion Art Studio

It reminds me when I was at university and my room was a completely mess. But it also represent, as already mentioned by others, a person overwhelmed by life. Differently from other illustration seems you didn't play much with light and contract. Maybe it is just an impression

Gaia Aurelia Littarru

Remember seeing this wip and liking it a lot. I think I liked the lack of detail in the mess. I know you probably want it to look cluttered, but I think maybe it would benefit from being less clear in some areas? To make the character stand out? Or a cute logo on the t shirt and messier hair? That is my two cents. Making it more messy in style fit the subject and topic i feel. Very relatable. Love it!

Victoria Eve

This is clearly missing a cat looking very proud of itself in the center of that carpet 😂😭

cloudie s

Oh this is great! I love all the stuff everywhere, and her expression is perfect. I agree with everyone else, a kitty or a puppy with a plant would be really cute.

Kat Craig

I think the amount of clutter is just right. Adjusting the light might emphasize the “closed in by stuff” feeling. Maybe a subtle vignette filter darkening the bottom and sides? Love your work! ❤️

Leslie Sealey

Yes! Plant is a great idea! :D

Rye Mi

I would add something that gives the viewer a reason for the chaos. Maybe a hint of another person, or something another person is involved in, or a live event, as she looks a bit depressed or sad. Maybe she lost someone and the chaos stems from weeks of grief.

Christian Müller

Anything other than a cat. Maybe an iguana. :)

ivanillo

That circle design on her sweatshirt is the perfect calm, focal center of all this gorgeous clutter. Somehow how, all this clutter seems to have a rhythmic order, flowing around that dot. Love this!

Keith Himebaugh

Oh she definitely needs a cat.. and a potted plant! :)

Christina May

I picture her stairing down at a small dog holding a sock or slipper in its mouth.

QuirkySphinx

Hey get out of my room lol

Impyuuo

A cat and a ferret cuddling together would be cute af but I don’t think it would really fit in with the overall feel and mood of the piece. But in any case, I love this drawing. The colors, the emotions, everything is great. 🥰

Inara

This is gorgeous! I love how you mastered clutter without having the piece ffeel cluttered. If you want to still add something, I could totally see a puppy sitting in front of her feet, innocently looking up.

Noukah

Love how it is going! I need to work on interior pieces too 😅, maybe a cat or ferret or any animal could be hiding somewhere beneath the clothes playfully or rubbing against her leg cheering her up after a rough day

JosGonzalezArt

This is beautiful. I am always amazed at how you can replicate your expression and gesture across all kinds of surfaces and forms. It brings so much life to hard surfaces and environments as well as living things ✨

meowsiclez

I heard somewhere that clutter reflects some inner chaos so maybe some small objects around her head or something? Or maybe her shadow could look different than the pose?

Pierre Brown

I love the mood of this piece. Colors, feeling of loneliness, composition. Woaw ! 😍 Maybe adding some clothes mess in the empty circle near her right foot. It would give something like "the mess is growing up from the ground to the subject" like invading thoughts or something like this. Far more easy to put in words than to draw... But I'm not the drawer there. 😂

Dan

Looks fantastic and a real sense of choatic calm. I'd possibly just vignette the edges a bit and add a stronger light source / bloom

mattelder_uk Family Bricks

This is beautiful omg I always struggle with backgrounds, I never know where to start.. where to add the light, and how to color, especially the objects in the environment (?) If that makes sense. And maybe add a cat, since she's looking down o:

Emilia

I love it. I think it is now very storytelling and has its own mood. If you asked me, my idea would be to add a little fly/butterfly/cat that is shining and introducing hope :).

Marta

The way she looks at the floor and her whole posture is already telling so much. When you’re overwhelmed with life, it shows in your environment and the mess is adding to the overwhelm. It feels almost like she is paralysed. Not knowing where to even start to deal with all her problems. I don’t know if it needs a pet or any other element. Sometimes you don’t need a reason to be burned out, overwhelmed or depressed, it just happens. For me the image encapsulates that.

Anni Tendo

a laundry basket, a suitcase, a pet carrier, or a Marie condo book😂

ult

I did! I'll definitely put one together soon!

Loish

Omg this is so beautiful! Love the colors and attention to details. Please please say you recorded a process video for this one 🥰❤️✨

Rodrigo Falco

Yeee I am so happy you finished this one, it was my fav! To answer your question, I would suggest maybe rather an artistic-blurry plant 🪴 or a chair in the foreground - left bottom corner - to add depth of field. Also why not a suspended light in the top right corner? You know these simple ones with just the black wire and bulb. But the piece is already great as is. It's just that I feel it's missing that greenery vibe of yours ☺️

Tholia

wow I love these ideas so much!

Loish

i like the feeling of loneliness and how overwhelmed this chaotic room makes me feel. instead of a pet, i'd probably add the *absence* of a pet (like an empty/open birdcage or an empty fish bowl) ... or maybe no pet, and it's an open suit case, ready to pack. ... or maybe the person is holding a letter in one hand ... making the viewer wonder what happened. just throwing stuff out there 😅

Celila

I absolutely love this piece! I was really hoping you'd fishish it since I saw the sketck! A cat is never a wrnog choice, but honestly I like that it's kinda ambiguous and moody despite the soft colors 👌💖

Christina

A cat. Always! ^_^
