EARLY ACCESS // waterfall

I finally got around to finishing the waterfall painting that I first made a rough version of in January! Drawing this was a super frustrating process. I felt like the more detail I added, the less it looked the way I wanted it to. So it was a lot of back and forth and I’m still quite unsure of the final result. I now have two versions: one with a really straight waterfall (the first image), and one with more organic shapes for the waterfall (the second). Which one do you like more?
Either way, my goal was to make a painting with a majestic environment and a small person, so I guess I achieved that - maybe I’ll revisit a similar theme at some point in the future to see how I woudl tackle it differently! For now, hope you like this one!
haha thanks. dall-e has been great for meme content though.

it was an issue of how much detail i wanted to add. i felt like the more detail i added to the waterfall the more ridiculous the artwork became so i kept it really stylized with very few splashes!

Wow I love this!! I prefer the one with the more organic shapes

Frame 2 seems to be the more reality-grounded picture. I agree that the water could lead to the subject, like a guideline. Also, the water doesn't seem to splash where it meets the rocks. Is your purpose to make a fantasy waterfall or have I not seen enough of them?

Your work is way better than the dall-e interpretations. 😂

thank you! and yes I have that all the time, agonizing over creative choices and always feeling like i missed out on some opportunity by taking one choice and not the other. i feel like almost all artists struggle with this!

I like both. Still organic looks awesome.
Btw, How you manage to do art when traveling. Is it via iPad or physical Sketch books?

I like the 2nd because the waterfall looks raging which I think it would coming from such high up and landing on rocks. I think it gives more motion — movement.

These are all amazing! I think I like the straighter one over the organic shapes...it just seems like it's more powerful somehow and really works with the smaller figure.

Stunning as usual, Loish! 🥰 so majestic, I think it like the second one, the more organic shapes lead the eye to the subject i think. I found myself getting stuck on the waterfall in the first one. But I know nothing so 😅

This is AMAZING! I love how it came out SO much. I think I like the straighter waterfall, it's an interesting juxtaposition against the figure and the trees, since those are more rounded and jagged. Both are beautiful though!

The different waterfall approaches convey different feelings to me: the first one (straight one) gives me the sense of a heavy, full waterfall, with so much volume and power that it drowns anything behind it to become this one straight gush. The one which is more organic still feels powerful, but less so: it feels like a lighter, more peaceful maybe, waterfall. One (to me) is thundering, and the other is less so! But they're both absolutely gorgeous. The lighting is just so evocative, I love it.

Really nice, really like it, actually, the image 5 gives me a feeling of majesty. Seems to me, their is something missing on the top of the picture which provides either opening to the sky or rocks which "close" the visual and provides this "majesty aspect" in my opinion. I would also expect the most commonly used "water vapor/cloud" to provide the feelling of running water, but that's my personal feeling... Hope it will help

I like both, keep flicking between them….. I think I like the straighter one, but then I go to the more organic & I think it’s that one….. to hard to pick between them…. But I guess if I really had to choose it would be the 2nd with more interesting shapes in water flow. The thing that strikes me the most, is that you are just like the rest of us… picking your own work apart & not 100% happy with the outcome. Lol, you are a phenomenal artist & im yet to see a piece of your work I don’t love. There’s so much life & energy in all that you do, drawing viewers in & keeping them there. That’s a gift, the rest of it is technical skills that anyone can learn…if they put in the work, but that special something…. That’s ingrained in your DNA, if you could bottle that & sell it you’d never have to work again. 😊

Love these but I think I prefer the 2nd image where the waterfall is a little more organic in shape. Feels like a capture of flow as the water hits a bit of rock. There was a lot of swiping back and forth to really see the distinction! Beautifully done 😍
