EARLY ACCESS // portrait sketches

Last month I posted some portrait sketches from a small sketchbook I started using. Here are some more from that same sketchbook! With these, I was getting more comfortable with stylizing and exaggerating them, and just enjoying the process more. I think that shows a bit in the art - it looks a little more confident than my first sketches from the last post. I was really enjoying playing around with expressions and squishy faces, it was fun! I added some color to two of them in photoshop, if you're interested in my process for doing that, I can put together a little resource on it - just let me know :) Hope you like these!

Thank you Loish for your answer , it’s so interesting ! Would love to see a video of your process, I am amazed about how you push the shape of the face 😍

Aurelia de Bouard

hey aurelia! i used reference loosely, and with the squishy face one I used it a little more closely since I am not well versed in how the face distorts when it's being squished!

Loish

They are super pretty! Love the face squeezing feelings ! Did you used reference for it?

Aurelia de Bouard

Oh awesome! I have a few other sizes of Moleskine, they're quickly becoming my favorite :)

Kat Craig

yes, I based some of them loosely on reference! others are just from the imagination.

Loish

I used some loose references for these! didn't save them anywhere though, but you can find a ton of stuff over on pinterest.

Loish

thanks! I'm very unskilled at symmetry, so I just avoid it completely haha.

Loish

hey kat! i'm using an A5 format moleskine for these.

Loish

thanks so much amy!

Loish

Love these! I can see the growth in confidence you mentioned between the two posts ✨💯 The expressions are so fun and beautifully illustrated 💕

Radka Kopecka (radu.k.art)

Amazing ,These are outstanding …yes I’m interested in the process. Thank you so much

Nahla

I just noticed the subtle asymmetry in the features adds so much character your drawings. Like both eyebrows don't look the same, both eyes etc neither. I was always hell bent on creating a mirror image on both sides but that just makes things boring!

cortisolblue

These are stupendous! I really love what you've come to here and would absolutely love to learn more of your process!

Tyler

Oh my gosh. This is what I wanted to see. This is it!
