From official X by Re:zero's author, Reinhardt wished for the power, and devine protection left Theresia and went to him. Reinhardt did not "intentionally" kill his grandmother, but it clearly have a profound effect on Theresia's death.

That really OP power was shown many times during his fight with Regulus. Now, if you take that and put it together with what happened to Theresia, then you will understand why Heinkel and even Wilhelm have some resentment towards him. And why Heinkel (and Reinhard himself) said that he killed Theresia. Reinhard is a very, very tragic character.
