i will be watching the frozen bond OVA and a full reaction of that will be uploaded next wednesday as a patreon exclusive! then we will start season 2 on friday!

It was supposed to have only been like a one week break iirc. But covid caused season 2 delays so we got the Director's cut and then had to wait. so you were kind of right there as that season was suppose to bridge over to season 2.

2024-05-29 16:55:08 +0000 UTCFun fact, in the previous episode, when Ram used that "hallucination" trick and tried to kidnap Subaru, after things settled down YOU SAID: ""Isn't Ram gonna ask about Rem??"" Congratulations!!!! You picked up the first hint that Rem had been erased!! Ram would NEVER not ask about Rem. How could she not care where her precious sister was? Where could she possibly be when she had to take care of Subaru? Rem not being there should have been a MAJOR danger sign for Ram, and she would never, NEVER, let is slide. So, her not asking about Rem was because Rem had already been erased, so Ram had no memory of Rem anymore. So sad... As others have mentioned, the Letter was written by Rem (Subaru can't write properly), thus when she got erased, the contents of the letter got erased too, thus becoming a blank letter.

That ending scene feels more impactful in the sense that Subaru has declared his love and will continue to work on himself to be worthy of Emilia. Its a success because we've seen how far Subaru has come. He's realized his mistakes, most likely due to confronting himself via his battle against Petelgeuse who kind of acts as an ugly mirror to Subaru's mentality. The obsession and one sided love with no care or desire to understand or even acknowledge the other person's feelings.

But Im curious to see where the story goes, I haven't watched season 2 but I will watch it so I can see the reactions here later. Edit: Sorry, I liked Emilia, just felt like the Subaru and Emilia moment didn't impact me as much because we didn't have much of Emilia in the screen. Thats a better way to put it.

It’s also hard to adapt Subaru’s inner monologue and the portion of the novels where Subaru first realizes he is actually in love with Emilia. Subaru’s affection for her seems almost superficial sometimes in the anime, whereas in the novels it comes off far more genuine.

2024-04-12 16:42:27 +0000 UTCAs someone who would put Emilia in my top 3 or 4 favourite characters in the show I feel like that reaction is completely natural, they basically cut her out entirely like halfway through the season and the parts that she’s in a lot at the beginning you don’t really know her well enough. They don’t even fully clue you in to just how hostile the world is to her and by proxy how that shapes her character and self worth until these last couple of episodes so she’s a bit of a cypher up until this point, there’s not a lot yet to latch onto. By comparison even though she starts with a much more antagonistic relationship to Subaru they give you Rem’s backstory relatively quickly, and she plays a more active role in the plot and the season.

2024-04-12 16:34:31 +0000 UTCThat last scene with Subaru, Emilia amd Petra was originally the first scene of season 2. Also, the magic cloak that Subaru was wearing at the beginning of the episode is the same one that Emelia wore to the village with Subaru. And Petra still recognized her.

Just like Subaru and a lot of the characters in this series, they change and grow as time pass. Season 1 show introduce us to the world, the problems and flaws of the characters etc and as the final title card summarized: "That's All This Story Is About".

2024-04-12 16:12:26 +0000 UTCThe reason Subaru loves Emilia can be summarized as follows: In a strange world where pretty much everything goes against Subaru and he is repeatedly killed and traumatized, Emilia is the ONLY person who has shown him nothing but kindness and affection. Even when he did not deserve it. Even when she is mad at him, she “ends” things for his sake. Even after he tells her to have “nothing to do with me” in one life, she still cares for him and defends him from Ram. She is literally working to become the ruler of the nation, and she still takes time out of her daily activities to spend it goofing off with Subaru and checking on him. Rem, as great and lovable as she is, literally killed Subaru once and then also tortured him for hours another time. He does not hold any of that against her. They also cut a lot of the relationship between Rem and Subaru from the novels for the anime. It is quite clear that Subaru has a lot of romantic feelings for Rem as well.

Emilia wore it when she went into the village with Subaru, and then again when they went to the capital, so that she wouldn't freak people out. When she and Subaru had their big fight in the capital, she threw the cloak at him before she left, and he's been carrying it around ever since.

Memory Snow and Frozen Bond are supposed to be watched next to each other as they were originally released. They contrast with each other and reference each other.
