From my understanding as a veteran kdrama fan (lol). This is a very traditional close to makjang drama that were produced before that is missing now by the way. Firstly, you need to understand how important status, power and reputation are in S.Korea. Specially the rich they do not play with those things. So the ML is a speaker for the president. You can say that he is the face of the highest ranking official so if anything negative PR/press happens to him it directly affects the President. The FL is from a "rich family" BUT I think he is not a direct bloodline meaning she might be just the mother's daughter. An illegitimate daughter, which means she is a "negative" entity for her family as well as the ML's family. The ML and FL's family decided to marry because they want control of the Media (If you do not know in S.Korea Media is very important you can watch the drama Pinocchio to know how it holds so much power) because of the ML's father's scandal. You see if there is an ounce of scandal/dirt to anyone in the government officials/employees they could lose their jobs/positions. Now, here are some of the questions you asked that I might help you understanding. 1. Why is the ML hiding the FL? Because he is trying to protect her. Once the news comes out that the FL is his wife they can dig up her past and you know females have it harder than males in SK. They might be forced to divorce due to bad publicity and he does not want that not until the election is over so they can quietly divorce. 2. The FL's sister was the one who did not want the arranged marriage and was trying to force ML to stop it but because ML possibly loves FL even before so he proposed to change the bride to save the FL. 3. Why is he mean to her? Because he does not want to trap her in an arranged marriage. He does not want to form attachment to her because he knows that they will divorce eventually. (It was stated that they would separate after the election) And he also said he does not want her to be puppet in front of him so he thinks she is being forced to do the sweet things and he does not want that. These are the things I think you guys were kinda confused about.

I wonder if she witnessed someone committing a crime against him or someone he wishes to bring down committing a crime and it traumatized her to the point of causing her selective mutism. If so, his then his plan would be to keep her close to him to protect her; thus, the fake marriage. She might be guarding some repressed memories and he wants to keep her safe under the guise that the marriage is just to help him during the election. As of now, his team has him convinced that she is having an affair. He believes that the man she is cheating with is the one trying to blackmail him. The only way he can prove it is to see if she has a mole n her thigh. This was a stupid move on her end because her pretending to be a man means the man had to have access to her to take a pic of her thigh. Since he has not given in to the fake blackmailer, he now suspects that the explosion was caused by the blackmailer and she might be working with him. This is getting interesting and I'm here for all of it. LOL

Then sister was gonna blackmail him because she didn’t want to marry, which would have ruined his plans. He called an audible and swapped brides. He might be developing feelings now but I don’t think it was always there. Until they tell us, otherwise that’s my interpretation. However, I’m just pulling from similar kdramas so could be wrong.

I believe because he doesnt want her to just be that "puppet" that he mentioned that does everything he orders her to, including in the sexual department of their marriage duties. Calls her a hostage, says dont be a puppet that your mother ordered you to be, etc. It seems FL had a small crush on him before marrying so maybe she tried to accept her role given by the mother and satisfy him at first but that probably seemed like she was forcing herself to him which made him even harsher to turn her away. Typed out all this during the episode and Lee came to the exact conclusion I had. 😂
