2023-10-04 12:08:43 +0000 UTCTbh I’ve always thought that someone who wasn’t racist would have made Magnoshtadt work, it’s actually not that far from a decent system. If making the fifth district voluntary doesn’t work due to lack of interest, you can turn it into a draft that rotates everyone out eventually along with placing magician classes themselves down there for solidarity, pulling people out when it begins to take a serious toll, and making the environment down there enriching intellectually instead of promoting vice and sloth. It’s basically like if power plants worked on blood drives. You just have to flip it into a civil service. The fact that the fifth district can apparently have a quality of life better than the slums of other counties means you could probably get refugees and immigrants to power your city for cheap. Now you’d have to be careful in creating the system to choose who goes in and when, but if I can get cynical for a second, you can just start with the poorest 2/3rds of people for a stipend and access to the public services you’d put down there and it’d probably be sustainable lol
