Not really, remember that this is a Edo period setting dealing with rather high ranking or influential samurai. Men, women, warriors, and even children had certain ways that they were supposed to conduct themselves as well as certain things that were considered wrong or shameful. For warriors this included how you should think, Stoicism was a big part (actual stoicism, not just how we use it nowadays for people who dont show much emotion). Think back to how Eizen would critique Sagiri in earlier episodes. He was basically saying her head isnt right. Sagiri is already well outside of a normal female role, but even going back to the original notable stoic philosophers it has mainly been associated with men. That is why they comment about her being a woman so much.

It's not the fact that 9 and 10 y/Olds got married in the past, it is the way they show it in this anime. Nobody is complaining about Gabimaru being only 16 and married. What is weird is how they show a 12 y/o when they could of just do e the reveal in a better way.

It doesn't have to be implied. It doesn't matter if its a friendship and an awkward start of meeting each other. Meeting through friends and having awkward encounters happens all the time in real life and it can start a real romance between your potential love interest for your entire life. The fact is that the moments we have gotten with them are waaaaay more grounds for a romance and chemistry than the couple of moments we have gotten with his wife. Also his wife is not as important in the story as sagiri is. Why is it bad for people to want the characters they are most invested in to have a relationship over a character put permanently in the background? I persoanlly am hoping the wife gets killed off behind the scenes and the real relationship comes forth.

There were 9 and 10 year old emperors during this period in Japan. Gabimaru is only 16, and married. You have to consider the cultures and historical periods of these stories. It wouldn't make sense for them to hold these characters to today's standards.
