That storyline got cut from FMAB but the tl;dr is that he was a corrupt government official who was overseeing a mining town. Ed and Al exposed him and now he's a wanted criminal on the run. You've gotten to know Hawkeye a little but the rest of Mustang's squad is super cool too as you'll get to see
