Uncut Attack On Titan 1 x 11 - Idol: The Battle For Trost: Part 7

I edit my yapping in the intro and outtro because the 'ums' annoy me haha!

Eren is pretty much 200% heart, and once in a long, long, long while, he thinks, "Oh, yeah, maybe I should use that brain thing too... πŸ€”"

Yes! Mikasa fan club here too! She's incredible :D

Jon Herrera

You know, that's a very good way of looking at it. More frustration that she's putting him above her orders and putting others at risk by disobeying. Also putting herself at unnecessary risk too in that she would get in trouble for just straight up avoiding her orders!

Sophie Anders

There is something to that, certainly. I agree that it's a factor that contributes to his feelings and reaction. But the reason I think the other thing (wanting to be protector vs. protectee) is a factor is because it's also happened before when there weren't any orders, like when Mikasa said she'll also enlist and during their training in the cadet corps. I think the scene with the bullies in episode 1 is a pretty good example where Eren wanted to think they were afraid of him when, in reality, it was Mikasa they ran from. But, yeah, I totally hear you. I think that's a factor in it, for sure, that you've brought up.

Jon Herrera

I always thought that when it comes to plans and strategy fighting the titans, Eren strictly follows the orders and expects same from others. So, when Mikasa is going against the plans, just to protect him, Eren is unable to comprehend it. For him, defeating titans is the highest priority, everything else only comes after that. In his mind, Mikasa is very skilled, so she should be located where she can be most useful for the fight. In this case, Ian recognized that she'd be able to focus the best if she was near Eren, and ordered her to come with them. And immediately Eren had no problem with it, when it was an order.

I did think it was leaning more German when I first watched when Hannes was introduced but then Jean and Marco I was like OKAY IT'S A MASH UP OF A LOT OF EUROPEAN NAMES!! Very interesting though as I wasn't sure what to expect and thought it would be very Japanese inspired. I love Eren but he needs to start behaving. He's an absolute menace. Armin and Mikasa are definitely my favourites and I can see Levi being up there!!

Sophie Anders

Great reaction, as always! Have you noticed how European (German specifically) the names are in this show? The creator took a lot of influence from European themes when he crafted this masterpiece (Militaristic government with a King at the head and a group of noble elites that horde food and use commoners as fodder.) Other animes will have more heavily Japanese themes and names, but AOT is different in that regard. Eren is definitely too mean to Mikasa; it's always hard to watch because she is my favorite character in this show. I legitimately love everything written about her. Eren and Armin are tied for number two because I cannot choose between them.

I think you're right and that's probably what it is. Their relationship began with him as the protector, but then it totally flipped on him. (And he's a silly boy).

Jon Herrera

It must stem from maybe feeling somewhat emasculated that she's stronger than him, and perhaps feeling as if he needs to be the one to protect her?

Sophie Anders

Eren, my guy! Chill! 😭 I love him, but he is a silly boy and does get mean with Mikasa. It's happened whenever she's talked about protecting him, though. Maybe there's some jealousy and insecurity about her strength there. πŸ€”
