The version you are watching is actually the Special Edition which was released in the late 90s. George Lucas went back and added some extra scenes and cleaned up a lot of the special effects using CGI. The 1990s saw a resurgence in Star Wars in culture. Action figures were being released and books were being written. I was in the high school marching band at the time and almost every school was doing a Star Wars halftime show. I'm a huge fan as well. I have my share of action figures and memorabilia. I even have a pug named Vader.
