The video that has 1.5 million views uploaded 5 months ago shows some of the differences I've mentioned especially the way the cards actually looked in real life(OCG series 2)

2025-01-28 06:37:23 +0000 UTCJust type in "Ocg yugioh history" on YouTube and Janjo zone and Lost worlds have videos about the history of Japanese(OCG) card games including Bandai's card game from 1998. The 1999 Tokyo dome riot over Exodia was the craziest part i remember hearing about as a kid just like the infamous porygon episode of Pokémon as kid.

The Japanese version is the only one available on the site anyway. The manga is on the Shonen jump app and has all 3 parts of the story done by Takahashi. Yugioh(chapter 1-59) is before it becomes about the card game, this was adapted by Toei in 1998 aka Season 0. Then you have Yugioh duelist(duelist kingdom through battle city)and Yugioh millennium world which is the final part. Duelist and millennium world are adapted in this version of Yugioh they're watching now.

The best game out is either Duel Links for the PC and Mobile, or my personal choice, Master Duel on Console, PC, and Mobile. It's the cleanest and simplest format, but both have a lot to offer. The world has changed, and no longer do you need to carry physical cards. You can just buy VC and rip packs in Game (pretty cheap for beginners, and you can earn TONS of fee currency just for playing. And I mean TONS.) All unwanted cards can be resold for materials to CREATE whatever cards you actually want to have. It's pretty dope. There's even an offline mode that let's you learn the game A LITTLE BIT... But if you're just starting and trying to LEARN the game, actually start with Legacy of Duelist! It's a much more basic game that let's you really learn as you play through ALL of the duels seen throughout the anime. So yeah, looking to ball out? DUEL LINKS or Master Duel. Looking to learn for the first time? LEGACY OF DUELIST (mainly on console, but probably on PC as well. No mobile to my knowledge.)

2025-01-27 18:47:19 +0000 UTCNot many people love Yugioh as much I do, and I'll admit, while I'm EXTREMELY curious about the Manga content and the uncensored version of the anime, I don't think any less of it knowing 4kids fucked it up. I'll take a link to the uncensored version if you got it, tho! 😆 I just could never find it, and the nostalgia carries HARD, so it never mattered TO ME.

Again if this weren't an issue I'd have no problem with them watching it in English but again it's not done by an actual GOOD localization company like Funimation(now crunchyroll) or Viz. This is why they had the UNCUT episodes which used the original script, cards and ost(English ost is solid but i prefer the Japanese especially "God's Anger" and "Passionate Duelist")

They would eventually make the real card game more and more like the show to the point that NOW, it's literally 1 turn GGs if you have a complete deck. The show does a great job of highlighting "OP" cards and showing you how they can be used as well as countered

2025-01-27 18:05:43 +0000 UTCChanged the battle city villian motives and goal along with what he did to his father(which was better in the manga), Changed "Thief King" motivation of revenge(100% justifed). Cards are censored compared to the OCG(this is why we get "Lost Art" cards), Changed my favorite gods name(an actual Egyptian diety)to a damn executive producer at 4kids. In the filler ark they changed Amelda(Allister in dub) backstory in the waking the dragons arc even though this is a filler arc. I could list many more if you want. I can name more.....the final villian however in the millennium world arc I get why they censored him because.....Lol.

2025-01-27 16:57:29 +0000 UTCBecause it's not the same series. I knew the dub was on some Bullshit once barrel dragon was summoned(the English edit looks terrible). Once they got to battle city that's where I couldn't do it anymore back in 03. The "Dark energy disc" and tag duel vs lumis and umbra was the final straw for me and at that point I had been watching since it aired in late September of 2001. When I watched it subbed in 08 on crunchyroll(which was an illegal anime site at the time btw) to finish the series, I watched it from episode 1 and it confirmed everything i knew as a kid. They heavily altered the series and did it for children.

The egregious amount of censorship and script changes in this version is disgusting and laughable. If this were the UNCUT 4kids version this would be a different discussion but they only did 9 episodes. Also R.I.P. to Kazuki Takahasi for giving us this amazing series
