He literally wasn't even trying to do a fake out death in that instance. The montage exists for people like Pat who need the blatant character development beaten upside their head with a stick. Since this is something neither of them would have done when they were first introduced. Wendy due to being shy and scared of any confrontation and Carla due to basically not giving a crap. It shows how they've both grown in different ways.

2024-05-01 06:47:12 +0000 UTCI'm not gonna be one of these weirdos who comments on every Fairy Tail upload bitching but I can say I didn't like the way the Wendy scene was handled because like yall said, after a while you don't believe any of the "deaths" and they do this quite a bit and for this scene specifically, I felt very burned when they survived because they had me in tears thinking they died. That's one of the few gripes I have with the show because if the intention isn't to kill the character then don't do the whole montage about it however when people do die in Fairy Tail, it means much more. I get the perspective yall have with this though.

Then after the timeskip she faced off against Chelia in her first one on one. To having Mira/Laxus assist her with the fight against the Jade Dragon. And now she defeated a high tier demon of the books of Zeref without relying on assistance from others like past fights. AND SHE'S 13!!! She's practically the Gohan of this show. There's so much potential within her. PUT SOME RESPECT ON HER NAME

She has to do it at will, it doesn’t count if she’s just breathing normally. That wouldn’t make sense and would be OP asf. She has to willing active her Dragon Slayer magic to be able to absorb power from the air. Just as Natsu has to willing make the conscious decision to eat his respective elements to gain power.

Meanwhile, Natsu had to eat Laxus lightning and a shard of the Tower of Heaven. Sting and Rogue can only use Dragon Force because they're third-generation hybrids, And Gajeel still hasn't achieved Dragon Force. Additionally, Laxus and Cobra can't use Dragon Force, meaning Wendy is the only Dragon Slayer to achieve her form the right way.
