This is a part of the process I don't show often, and yet it's one of the most critical phases of any piece. It's also one of those things that I insist a lot on when teaching my artlings - thumbnail, iterate, sketch, draft! Don't commit to the first idea you draw - even if that ends up being the one you finally edcide on, do it from a bank of choices.
Thumbnailing and drafting versions can make all the difference between a piece we're proud of and one we stick in the archives and never want to look at again.
