Well chi cheng character is really isnβt likable to begin with, heβs really red flag or maybe black? I didnβt get to vote during the poll so when I saw that youβre reacting to this I immediately thought that chi cheng character is not really your taste π 16 episodes have already aired so Iβm really attached with the characters, and I became fan of tian xuning too (the one playing chi cheng). Anyways looking forward to your reaction to this πππ

I have some thoughts about this fascination with dominance commonly seen in BL and queer culture. I was reading a collection of female fantasies over the years (a book called βmy secret gardenβ) and there were similar recurring themes of control and dominance and honestly kinda r*pey vibe. I looked into this and found research on how cultures where there is shame and repression around sexuality (such as in homophobic societies and purity cultures) there are more fantasise where you give up control. The thinking behind it is that you have such a guilty response around even arousal that you only feel like you can experience it if something is being done to you and you have no choice (aka if youβre being taken by force itβs not your fault making you blameless even if you enjoyed it). Pretty fucked up but fascinating to learn about if youβre into all that human brain evolution stuff! In terms of storyline, I suspect that aggressive sexual tension is easier to write than emotional connection, it comes across as more stereotypically masculine and you donβt have to flesh out your characters with growth (yeah Iβm throwing some shade on some BL writing out there). Itβs still ep 1 tho so Iβm hopeful these are just characters that need thawing π
