The drama couldn't mention much about Kiyoi's past because of the limited episodes, but he was neglected quite badly throughout his childhood. Before his mom remarried he was always left all alone as his mom went to work, and unlike other children who had family to open the door for them after school, he was the only one who had to bring the house key with him everyday because no one was home. As a kid he was scared, so he resorted to switching the tv on to max volume to pretend that someone was home. He couldn't sleep without hearing the sound of the tv. He was happy when his mom remarried, he thought he finally wouldn't be left alone, but the truth is it was still the same as all his parent's attention went to his step younger siblings. There was a really heartbreaking part in the novel, where he scored a 100 on a subject that he wasn't good at, but only ended up tearing his paper up because his mother didn't care and was busy taking care of his younger brother. From then onwards, he stopped yearning for his parent's attention and became quiet at home. This sculpted his personality where he's unable to be true to his feelings and is closed off despite being the centre of attention. Kiyoi and Hira's the perfect match, I hope people don't judge them with the norms. One of them lacks love and attention, one of them is obsessive, basically one needs to love and one needs to be loved. Hira on the other hand is described very well in this novel too, where he's suicidal and the only reason he's still living voluntarily is all thanks to Kiyoi's existence. They became an awesome pair in the second novel, where Kiyoi worked hard for his dream as an idol and Hira, because wanting to match Kiyoi, became an incredible photographer. There are a lot of forms of relationship and personalities, and this story is telling us so. It might look like a toxic relationship, but it isn't. It's actually a very heartwarming and incredible story, its about salvation

2022-03-09 02:13:14 +0000 UTCthe characters are so interesting!! and in ep 1, hira said that even from when he was a child, he never really found anything that he liked and nothing was special/beautiful/interesting to him so finally getting that feeling when he saw/met kiyoi must have really impacted him a lot!! hira is the type of person that just passively goes through life so its understandable that he gets attached to kiyoi since he gives “color” to hira’s otherwise dull/uneventful life lol and kiyoi is the only one that makes him feel ~things~ hahaha its so cool to see their own perspectives and reasons why they think the way they do lol so excited for your reaction to the last ep!!! <333

2022-03-03 03:06:45 +0000 UTCI agree, the first thing I noticed watching this the first time is that Kiyio never ridiculed / bullied him when his other classmates did in fact he always tried to get Hira out of those situations (although not in the best way. ie. sending him to buy soda, or to safe them seats). Even when he stutters, Kiyio saying "Gross" or "disgusting" or yelling at him often gets him out of it for a moment (not that, Kiyio's way was the best).

2022-03-02 22:50:47 +0000 UTCYes their relationship is not typical. I have tried to understand Hira and my take away is that Kiyio never pitied or babied him. You can see his parents handled him with care and the kids ridiculed him. Kiyio never did either and even though he was an ass it was better than the other two. Plus he doesn't know how vulnerable Kiyio is so I think he's attracted to his coldness cause he wants some of that. I think he admires how Kiyio is so aloof and controls his surroundings. Also yeah he's a masochist LOL!
