Personally, this is my favorite episode of the series. In some ways, I wish the show had ended here. Don't get me wrong--I love seasons 6 and 7. But if we never got two more seasons, this would have been an absolutely perfect ending for the series. I can't wait to catch up so I can watch season 7 with you.

I think my favorite thing about the end of season 5 is how it pits Buffy's ideology of selflessness against Glory's ideology of selfishness. Glory kills easily and doesn't value the lives of others; for Buffy killing is hard and a thing to be wary of because of how it changes you. I love the way the meaning of "Death is your gift" shifts from one of ultimate selfishness--taking the life of another, especially an innocent like Ben or Dawn--to the ultimate selflessness--to be willing to die for another, especially an innocent like Ben or Dawn. As Giles says, Buffy is a hero. And we don't often get to see women depict this kind of heroic self-sacrifice in media, which makes it even more powerful.

You need to watch the next two seasons of Buffy. It gets even better.
