Hi. I hope you feel better Ashleigh. I totally get your frustration with not knowing what happened with the hellmouth. I think it's kind of a joke on the viewers. Xander has his own adventure parallel to, and around the edges of, this epic but totally resolved and consequence-free apocalypse. The other Scoobies don't know what he did, and he doesn't know about their adventure. The main shift is Xander's self-confidence - he's not reactive to Cordelia and, of course, he has this random hook-up with Faith. The Zeppo (the name of the episode) is a reference to the old comedy troupe, The Marx Brothers. There were a few different versions of the Marx Brothers. Groucho (the sarcastic wise guy) and Harpo (the mute mischievious one) and Chico (kind of a con-man character) were the most well known. Zeppo was a 4th brother who never quite had the same insider status as the main 3. (There was also another brother Gummo, who was similarly peripheral). So this episode is kind of like what the world of Sunnydale looks like from Xander/Zeppo's point of view rather than the "inner circle" of Buffy, Willow, Giles etc....

2025-02-27 18:53:21 +0000 UTCThis episode was pretty funny. They were definitely poking fun at themselves. Especially with all the "this is the worst thing we've ever faced" stuff and the Angel and Buffy drama. Meanwhile, that's just going on in the background of a Xander episode.

2025-02-27 03:08:49 +0000 UTCYeah, I remember on my first watch, I was frustrated about the show not focusing on the "real" event, until the end when I finally got it. Watching it again makes this episode a lot better, when you know beforehand that this apocalypse is not the point of the episode, but it's all about Xander "becoming a man" (and I'm not talking about the sex stuff) :)

2025-02-27 03:06:28 +0000 UTCThis episode is better on a second or third watch when you know they were making fun of them selves. They purposely made the non Xander scenes completely over the top making fun of their own writing and having a bit of fun with the episode. It's not really obvious until you've watched way more of the series and go back and re watch. It's also nice to see Xander finally get some confidence in himself and grow a little.
