I have the same sound as my doorbell.

Steve Webster

"This is giving me Clue vibes." Eileen Brennan's name cones up. "I don't know who that is." Ohh Ashleigh. Never change.

Matthew Vandiver

Peter Falk would return in “The Cheap Detective” two years later in 1978. This was the first film to feature the new Columbia “Sunburst” logo in the beginning before the movie.

Richard Stegman Jr.

In this case, it was very much done on purpose. That’s the joke.

Ashleigh, the board game Clue/Cluedo came out in 1949. It was inspired by how popular detective novels were at the time, especially Agatha Christie ones. “Murder By Death” and “Clue” (the movie) are equally inspired by that same genre while poking fun at and being satirical about them too.

Susan Holly

She’s already said she’s watching “Mr. Mom”. 2 weeks from today, I believe.

There is a movie knock-off of this with TV detectives made in 1980. It's called Murder Can Hurt You. I saw it back in the day and never felt the need to watch it again.

Truman Capote was an author, he wrote “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”. Miss Marbles is played by Elsa Lanchester, who also played the bride of Frankenstein in the eponymous movie. Alec Guinness was a very famous British actor that you probably know as Obi-Wan in the original Star Wars movies. Peter Sellers was another famous British actor who is in a lot of movies, including Dr Strangelove and the Pink Panther movies (opposite Niven). David Niven was, again, a famous British actor who tended to play suave upper class characters.

Chris Crowther

The movie is a satire of various detective characters; Peter Sellers character is based on Charlie Chang, who was most famously played by Warner Orland, who was Swedish.

Mr Mom would be my choice.

So here's a question: As most of you probably know Terri Garr passed away a few days ago, so of course my question is which movie of hers should Ashleigh watch in memory of her? (There are a few movies of hers she's already watched, including Young Frankenstein, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and Tootsie)...oh and if anyone says "Mom and Dad Save the world"..go sit in the corner and take a time out!.

Anthony

Personally I think if she's gonna watch anything with Petter Sellers it should be The Pink Panther movies.

Anthony

Great reaction, you do such a great job. Thank you.

Okay, true story: During production, screenwriter Neil Simon received a phone call from Alec Guinness (the blind butler, aka Obi-Wan Kenobi). Mr. Guinness said he was calling because he was lonely in Los Angeles, his wife would not be in town for a while, and he needed help finding a tart. It took a while for Neil Simon to realize "tart" meant "prostitute." After lots of back-and-forth, Neil Simon finally got Alec Guinness to stop asking for help finding a tart. Then... there was laughter on the other end of the phone. Finally, a reveal that it was actually Peter Sellers doing his Alec Guinness impression. Anyway, you've seen Peter Sellers in Dr. Strangelove. For something less cringy than his character in this movie, check out "Being There!"

So glad you enjoyed it. I was worried that because of its age and the fact it's parodying detectives that were even older (30s/40s) it might not be your thing. Glad to be wrong. I agree with you that this is something that could be rebooted. Anyone got suggestions for updated detectives? Matlock? Trivia: Miss Marbles was played by the same actress that portrayed the Bride of Frankenstein.

I think Milo Perrier was right! The killer was Irene "Rita" Twain there at the end. She had to win, so she lied about him being wrong.

Meredith Shivers

Fun Fact the doorbell is Fay Wray's scream from the original King Kong

Ashley, love your videos. BUT... This movie is racist to Asians. The Asian stereotype is equivalent to watching a white actor in blackface and fake enlarged lips. I am not Asian but I am halfway watching this reaction and I'm cringing at the Asian stereotype portrayed by Peter Sellers. OMG.

Wally

EEEEEEEEEEK! I didn’t know this was coming. I’m soooo happy.
