John Amos Poll

In memory poll for John Amos - upon research I see a lot about ROOTS the TV series but he was in tons of movies, too.

Die hard 2 & Coming to America is on the channel.

Comments

How is Beastmaster not an option?!?!? Classic 80s fantasy

Anais Hilator

Beastmaster is the only option. Please redo the poll

Stephanie Chapman

For Madea you have to start with Dairy Of A Mad Black Woman that's the first Madea movie

Mr Marvelous

Coming 2 America was dumb. I turned it off after about 30 minutes. I hope you don't have to watch that one.

ssb031

I was going to pick Coming 2 America but to be fair the James Earl Jones winner kind of annoyed me. The Hunt for Red October is a great film but James Earl Jones has like 2 scenes. That said I can’t do that to John Amos.

Mike Gibson

The poll should be weighted for the people old enough to remember him prior to the 21th Century... to avoid any mention of nonsense like Madea anything. With that being said, Let's Do It Again is the only viable option.

Vincent

FYI Let's do it again is the sequel to uptown Saturday night

J E D

That whole show is spectacular! Makes me want to watch it all over again.

CinWin

Ohhhh Lordyy! And I just misread YOUR post and my jaw hit the floor when I thought what you thought! LOL

CinWin

I would LOVE to see alllll of those shows on the channel! Of course, we'd all be about 20 years older by the time she finished them. LOL

CinWin

That's a great idea!

CinWin

Yep, and we can get a little more James Earl Jones in C2A.πŸ˜‰

CinWin

Coming 2 America is a fitting choice.

Cosmic Slice

Enjoy Coming to America 2, I guess.

Joe Blankenship

Out of these choices, Let's Do It Again would be the best choice for a tribute to John Amos. Vanishing Point would be great at some point, but his role is so small he was not even credited when it came out. Seeing how Coming2America is winning, I guess this will be like the James Earl Jones "tribute" since he's in like 2 scenes but at least he's an actual character so yay?

Vicious Trollop

From this list, Let's Do It Again is the movie he's in the most. I know it has Bill Cosby, but it also has Sidney Poitier, who directed it as well.

Vicious Trollop

My only problem with Vanishing Point is he's barely in it. He was uncredited in it initially & he doesn't even have a name in it. I would love to watch it on the channel, just not as a John Amos tribute.

Vicious Trollop

Yes, Ashleigh needs Conan first, then all the other ones that came after.

Travis Taylor

Maybe you didn't hear it. I heard it in a number of places. Sorry you didn't. John Amos was more than character actor, and even if he was, so?

Vicious Trollop

These were my two choices of the bunch.

Travis Taylor

I want her to have like a 60's and 70's Disney movie thing like a Friday of old Disney movies.

Travis Taylor

We didn't get Convoy... we aren't getting Vanishing Point = (

Travis Taylor

Actually Beastmaster made me appreciate Conan

Blu

I love this and wish it was the one that would win... terrible deficit in 70's movies in Ashleigh's viewings.

Travis Taylor

Gonna get the Beastmaster someday, but to fully "appreciate" it, I think she needs to watch Conan first.

Travis Taylor

Let's do it Again and Beastmaster!!!!!

Tom Castro

Beast Master!

Blu

Let’s do it again! I own this movie! Best example of his acting. Plus it’s got the best soundtrack!!!

Alyssa Cartwright

You know if I can laugh AND pray in 90 minutes, I consider that money well spent - Doug (Tom Hanks) on black jeopardy. Roots is a mini-series and would be a project for several Wednesdays in Black History Month. Let's Do It Again would be my choice except Cosby. I do have some interest in Coming 2 America.

Curtis Martin

I think Roots is the best option. Depending on when you start it, it could be part of Black History Month.

Neil Brass

I'm 40. And I'm well aware who he was. He died 2 months ago and hardly anybody said a word.

Joe Blankenship

Not better than the first one but coming 2 America is the best one on here still pretty good

Leon

Coming to America should not be chosen because he's already been seen in its predecessor on this channel. It would be like watching Die Hard 4 for Bruce Willis. A different movie should be chosen. To that end, since Beastmaster is not on here, I choose Madea. Haven't seen any Madea so don't know how good (or bad) it is.

Wally

Sadly passed away LEGENDS is what we're doing now.

PieHard13

Lock Up (1988/89) with Sylvester Stallone SHOULD have been added. Amos plays the lead prison guard and it also starts Donald Sutherland. It's a great film that just doesn't get enough eyes on it nowadays

PieHard13

She hasn't. I'm lobbying for a streak of 80's barbarian/fantasy movies.

David Billings

I liked the first 4, but they did get worse as they went on.

Michelle LaMar

Oh yeah, vanishing point.

Markus L.

If you're going to do Madea do Diary of a mad black woman. But obviously not for this poll.

Michelle LaMar

Roots (1971) is really good too!

Cathy L

Noooooooo, I cannot believe The Beastmaster (1982) is not on here. It is one of John Amos' more interesting roles and unlike anything else he ever did. I would love to see some support for this one. :)

Echo Moon

The Beastmaster for sure should be on this poll.

thumperworld

Please don't watch any of the "Madea" movies other than the first two. Most of them are hot garbage.

Bastion33

The Beastmaster. Was a good flick with Marc Singer and John Amos.

Shane Plagmann

Never even heard of any of these, other than Coming 2 America. Looking them up on IMDB, one might be interesting simply from the number of famous faces you'll see in it, but beyond that from a bottom line channel reaction perspective, Coming 2 America is likely to be the most enjoyable pick for everyone. RIP James Evans, lol. Yes, I have every season of Good Times :)

Renee S

You must be very young. John Amos, was a great actor...PERIOD.

Dawne ~ Island Green Strong

Stay as far away from the Madea movies as possible. As far as the other movies, most were merely co-star roles. Of these,I went with Vanishing Point.

Richard Stegman Jr.

Not familiar with this guy at all, I think I'll abstain

JC

The World's Greatest Athlete. An old Disney picture with Jan Micheal Vincent in which Amos had a sizable role. Disney remade it as Jungle to Jungle. Jan Micheal Vincent now there was a man with some demons. Incredibly good looking with some acting talent. Drank and drugged himself to death. At the end even calling him a shadow of his former self would have been kind.

TheSingulatarian

Probably Madea's Witness Protection, I think?

Jassell B

We're doing character actors now?

Joe Blankenship

He appears in Uncut Gems as himself an that is a great movie.

Graham Martin

I had to Google him to see who he was. I recognize him, but don't know any of these movies.

Bryan Fritchie

Shoutout to his work in the Mary Tyler Moore Show, Good Times, Roots, and The West Wing.

Alex Ch

I haven't seen any of these so I went with Me Time.

Lynette Cummins

If you can stand to see Bill Cosby, "Let's Do It Again" is a great film. Otherwise, "Vanishing Point" is a cool 70s veteran flick.

Jassell B

Speaking of Death Proof -- Vanishing Point!

Cass&Jason

My choice would have been Beastmaster but I’m not sure if Ashleigh has already done it.

Stewart Shutler

John Amos was a great actor who gave some of the best and most important TV performances of all time. Unfortunately, he never really got to show that skill on the big screen.

Alex Ch

"The Beastmaster" is the first movie I remember him from.

fanofactionflicks

Anyone know which of these he has the biggest role in?

Elisa H.

Misread this as John Stamos, and I damn near died

Donald Lang

He was awesome in the show The West Wing.
