2023-09-25 00:42:52 +0000 UTCA great horror sequel to watch would be Exorcist 3. Yeah, that's right 3. Forget Exorcist 2 the Heretic which is universally regarded as one of the most disappointing sequels of all times. One of the reasons the first Exorcist movie was so good is because it was based on an excellent book by William Peter Blatty. The second Exorcist movie was not based on a book by him and suffered because of it. However, the third movie was based on the book "Legion" by Blatty. "Legion" is Blatty's actual sequel to his book "The Exorcist". Even better Blatty wrote the adapted screenplay for this movie and directed the movie himself. Sadly, however the studio forced him to call it "Exorcist 3" instead of "Legion". After the disastrously bad "Exorcist" II not many people went to see a movie called "Exorcist III". And that is a shame because this is a great horror movie. It's linked to the first in a very clever way but is a very different movie. No vomiting gore fest this time. It's much more of a psychological thriller. It also treats the second movie as if it never happened (and rightfully so) so you do not have to watch the second one in order to enjoy this one. Fantastic acting performances from George C Scott and Brad Dourif. This movie really is an underappreciated gem. The theatrical version is the one to watch as the director's cut is a rip off and basically just an unfinished first draft of the film.
