Youtube says this is still processing - so if it randomly gets blocked, I'll fix it as soon as I can.  until then, it should work! :)

EARLY ACCESS: A Night at the Opera

Comments

The Warner Brothers (and the Warner Sister) on Animaniacs were basically The Marx Brothers.

Lynnetta

The Marx Brothers were so head of their time.

Heather Cherry-Roberts

Fun reaction! I always forget how much I enjoy some of these older films!

Inflation: that $200,000 that's mentioned? That would be $4.5 million today. The $8 million? That's about $178 million today. (A loaf of bread in 1935 was about 25 cents.)

How about "The General", with Buster Keaton? It's always near the top in lists of great movies, and I believe it still holds the record for "most expensive stunt" ever. (Though you likely have to adjust for inflation.)

I like the smart, witty dialogue. Groucho's always been a model for my humor. But I'm not a fan of slapstick. Still, their movies are considered classics for a reason.

The Mustache: This is a classic Hollywood tale. From memory, Groucho used to perform with a big bushy mustache. One night Groucho wasn't wearing it (for reasons I've forgotten), and the theater owner/director was berating him because "people come to see the mustache". Groucho got pissed off, dipped a finger in some black greasepaint, and smeared it under his nose. He was so pissed off, that he forever after wore the greasepaint.

Yeah, she said she would watch it again to catch all of the jokes she missed for her reaction. There were dozens of them.

James Sharp

Agreed Tyler.

Mark Finley

I recently rewatched both Night at the Opera and Duck Soup and while I still like Night at the Opera I think Duck Soup blows it out of the water.

Tyler Foster

I watched the full reaction and that one actually flew past her.

Kenton Kruger

I’ve seen The Way We Were so I know what you’re talking about.

James Moyner

Is it just me, or did the Marx Brothers front load their best gags into the first half of both Duck soup and Night at the opera?

Mark Finley

I was disappointed we didn't see her reaction to that.

Mark Finley

If you liked this one, start putting Duck Soup and Animal Crackers on polls. Duck Soup is widely considered to be their best and Animal Crackers gives us Groucho's most iconic character, Captain Spaulding, complete with his own theme song.

As a Baby Boomer, I welcome you to Marx Madness. In the Sixties, there was a huge Marx revival on college campuses. I recommend Horse Feathers, Monkey Business and Duck Soup.

Richard Meyer

"There ain't no Sanity Clause.". Frickin' CLASSIC!

James Sharp

Plus, Groucho’s glorious and distinct mustache.
