And then that should be followed with a viewing of the best parody of that film: the "Fistful of Yen" segment from 1977's "Kentucky Fried Movie" the 1st film from the writing team Zucker bros/Abrahams("Airplane!" "Naked Gun")...and the rest of the film is quite funny as well

"Rumble in the Bronx" is a fun movie...and at the risk of being roasted I think "Rush Hour" and its 1st sequel are also fun...part 3 came and went so fast I never saw it from what I understand Max Von Sydow is the villain in it so it sounds interesting

I didn't even remember what movie Police Story was until I saw the thumbnail. Shanghai Noon is a pretty good one.

I agree with Drunken Master. I think the Police Story films were at a time when Jackie was still finding his way. He directed this one; was it his first? My favorites are First Strike, Who Am I?, and Gorgeous. But I'll watch any of them. (Didn't he have a bit part in "Enter the Dragon?") Oh, Rumble in the Bronx is a good one, too.

agree. his american stuff is much more accessible to people that aren't hardcore martial arts movie fans and just overall easier to digest because while the films are kinda built around his stunts he has a strong western cast to take some of the pressure off with western-style humor. I like his chinese stuff but it's a little dry and perhaps tedious.

if i recall correctly....jackie chan is in that one too. LOL just not how you expect.

This was a very weak suggestion for someone just getting into Jackie Chan. The Police Story movies are rather lackluster compared to his actual kung fu films. The Drunken Master movies would have been better, or Project A, hell even Rush Hour would have been good.

This film was not very good. If you want to see a real good early Jackie Chan film watch Rumble in the Bronx (1995). Sooooooo much better than Police Story! :) Happy to hear Hubben is better after his stitch explosion. Take care of yourself as well Sis! Hugs to you both.

I would also say that if there's something you're missing here, it's that you have to be able to appreciate the stunts themselves as a whole thing. You seemed to find the 20-minute action climax a little tedious, but that's basically the thing action audiences want to see, especially with Hong Kong martial arts pictures, sometimes even MORESO than the story or the characters. In many of these movies, the plot is just there to provide a basis for the action sequences, and the more painful or unbelievable the stunt is, the more impressive it is (you seemed to have basically the same reaction to any stunt, which is that you were impressed, but one stunt did not seem to impress you more than another).

The kind of comedy the movie gets out of characters like May and Salina is pretty representative of the sense of humor in Hong Kong movies even today. You see enough of these movies, you get used to it, but it often doesn't get much better for the ladies in these things, unless you're Michelle Yeoh and get to do martial arts alongside Jackie. The guy at the beginning you said you recognized is from another Jackie Chan movie, First Strike -- which was retitled and recut for American audiences. In reality, it's the fourth movie in the Police Story series, so even saw him playing the same character.

May I suggest you see 1973’s “Enter The Dragon”,the one that,pretty much,kicked off the Kung-Fu movie craze in the ‘70s starring the late Bruce Lee?
